So..... guys...... do you think n900 is worth buying? since it will be outdated VERY SOON....  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

It depends on who you are or what you're actually looking for.

For a Linux geek that appreciates the ability to access the underlying Linux OS (all the additional development, network and security applications), N900 is a must have device smile.gif

The ability to use the Terminal (command line interface) and QWERTY keyboard is enough to make me drool tongue.gif

If different processor, ram & OS, it's a whole new world in mobile phone arena smile.gif

True. Certainly can't argue with that.

To summarise things, I guess you can say that:

N97 = Symbian-powered smart phone
N900 = Linux-powered mobile internet device (MID) + mobile phone

OS different is already enough to bring one into a whole new world

Chicaman,

Just knowing that with N900 I can have full access to the Linux OS is enough to make me part with my hard earned money smile.gif

hp so canggih but u only use for call n sms function
so better seek other hp

N900 can do more than just call and SMS. It has the usual smart phones (minus MMS capability) and plus many more.

- web browser > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5s9lqnQu48

- camera and media player > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey5Z8PX1LbI

- email, sms and instant messaging > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tktVfOmROM

- contacts management, calendar and tasks > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAk9dY-RAl4

- highlights that covers everything else > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjdS44kHxOI

It is also true that a geek will the group that appreciate this device the most. But N900 could also interest anyone who wants a full Media Internet Devices (MID).

Bros, I think harold123 actually mean that if someone get so powerful hp but only use for call and sms, then better seek other hp. Not saying the N900 only can call and sms, hehe  tongue.gif

Hi Andy214,

I think you are correct. I may have misunderstood harold123. Sorry harold123 if i "jumped" on you smile.gif My mistake.

Actually N900 have lots of functions rather than just call and sms. Well in some part I agree with u N900 has a pretty basic sms and call function, but do u ever think about the IM? This is the only phone that can open YM, MSN, Google Talk, Skype at the same time!!.. Plus they are all integrated into one.. same like pidgin in linux  rclxm9.gif

The Emails (Mail for exchange and Nokia messanging) also work like charm.. smile.gif

The Internet browser.. There's no need to explain about it coz it has the best internet browser for phone right now biggrin.gif

p/s: I really love the ctrl-v and ctrl-x function.. feels like using a real computer  whistling.gif

My conclusion for N900 is... U need to get a 3G connection / wifi for it to be totally utilize. I've been using N900 in quite awhile and still never get bored with it... So many things to be explored  thumbup.gif

Hi drexar,

I'm planning to buy N900 real soon. But I never had a 3G phone before. I would like to ask you about your 3G experience using N900.

1) Which service provider are you using?
2) Was there any problem in setting up the 3G connection? How easy was it to setup?
3) Does the service provider allow access to other ports than the usual port such web, pop3, imap and smtp? One of the reason for me to buy N900 is to do remote support thru SSH (port 22).

Right now i'm using Celcom 3G prepaid weekly.. So malas tu have a contract postpaid with any service provider.. hehe

Anyway last time I'd to setup the 3G setting by myself since Celcom cannot configure it automatically. Maybe once the phone is available in the market, there will be a simpler way.

SSH? Not really familiar with that. But my service provider supports usual port like web, imap and stmp. (I've been using the emails a lot - 3 emails at a time... yahoo, google and my Microsoft exchange2003). I think it should be the same like Celcom broadband that u use it with ur computer. (U even can use ur phone as a 3G modem for your pc).

-Hope the answers are good enough-
QUOTE(kiawin @ Mar 21 2010, 04:45 PM)
Not sure about celcom, but DiGi is automatically detected by N900 and the 3G internet works with zero configuration smile.gif
Hi drexar and kiawin,

Thank you for the information. I still haven't decide the service provider yet, but I'm leaning a bit towards DiGi. Especially the Unlimited 58 plan.

On another topic... Does Malaysia have something like an N900 User Group/Club? Seeing that N900 is highly hackable, maybe there could be a regular meet-up of N900 users.

- Users can share experience/information.
- Short presentation (3-5 minutes) on "Cool Maemo app of the month"
- A "HowTo" presentation. For example: "HowTo enable function XYZ" or "HowTo control air cond using N900" (just simply guessing here)
- Undecided people can have a sneak peek at N900 before making decision to buy or not

Any Nokia Center OR only the 4 stores (Pavilion, Plaza Low Yat, The Gardens and Sunway Pyramid) as in the pre-order form?

Does Nokia HQ knows, accept or condone this practice?

If you guys can wait its only a matter of time for other phone dealers to get hold of Original N900.
And the price won't be the same too(should be lower).

Anyway, not we but at least I made pre-order online coz got free DC-11 charger.
I'm going to Mid Valley Garden this Saturday 27th (hope its not crowded) to collect this HUGE baby..
See u guys there... tongue.gif

Hi Desmand,

I pre-ordered online and choose Nokia center at The Gardens too. Are you planning to be there early? Would be nice to meet another N900 fan.

Got my N900. Picked it up at The Gardens. The person in-charge asked for my IC to verify my identity.

So many things to explore in this phone biggrin.gif I'm taking my sweet time to try everything slow and steady tongue.gif

3.2010.02-8.002

The next major update is coming very soon, but not sure why it hasn't come and the N900 has launched in Malaysia and Singapore! So, does it mean the Malaysian and Singapore users will need to manually update it anytime soon? Plus, I think there're quite some improvements in the next update, it's seems like not a wise move to launch before the major update.
Even the milestone official set comes with Android 2.1.
Congratulations! Did you get the DC-11?

And can you check your firmware version?
*
Version: 3.2010.02-8

In the box:
- N900
- wiping cloth
- in-ear earphone
- usb cable
- charger
- a/v cable

Free gift:
- water drinking mug
- cheap nokia small bag/pouch

Price: RM 2280.00

Initial experience: First 10 minutes was awkard. This is my first smartphone. Previous phone was Nokia E51. But after that I feel comfortable using the touchscreen with either stylus or finger.

I picked up the phone around noon. They said before me already 15 people purchased their pre-order. About the DC-11 charger, they said they need to gather data (time of purchase) from all 4 outlet to know the first 300 pre-order that actually made purchase. Then only contact the winners.

I went to Pavilion to collect mine this afternoon, sadly they said I am not in the list, me and another 2 friends pre-ordered a week ago, our names are not in the list too. Too bad, we can't explore on N900 yet.

The disappointment has stopped us not to get the unit at the moment, the "hangat" already gone. I guess we will wait for the unit after pre-order.
*
Sorry to hear about that. 2 of my friends that pre-ordered a few days before me had the same story.

Even in my case, Nokia only send the confirmation email on Friday noon. Neither of my friends received the confirmation email.
