Have you tried iPhone or nexus1  ?or maybe Milestone yet ?
*
I already tried iPhone and nexus1 from my friends already..
well to be honest.. both phone are great but what I love about N900 is the originality.. u can customize ur desktop like u wanted... +i love the multitasking part of N900 rclxm9.gif

My conclusion is...
iPhone, nexus1 is good for a person who likes everything simple, fancy and following the trend..
N900 is for somebody who willing to learn and taking risk hehe

So iPhone, nexus1 and N900 all are great tongue.gif

dude.. mind to tell me how to use the ussd widget.. it appears 'click to update' after i added the widget to my desktop
about the ussd.. it's a bit tricky... i can't remember which tutorial i followed to solve the problem..

Anyway try follow this tutorial that i just found.

http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php?attac...46&d=1262733515 -- link for the USSD pad

before installing the deb file. install this first - http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/pygtkeditor/ This is important since the software will also install the python platform for u. (if not ur deb installation will come out with errors).

to install deb files watch this:

hope it helps smile.gif

u can see all of the 3rd party apps in maemo.org or just download it from n900 application manager..

the fmms can be downloaded from extra-devel maemo.org (see previous post for more details)

to download apps from extra-devel follow this steps:
http://thenokiablog.com/2009/10/27/maemo-e...0-applications/

(BE WARN.. do it at ur own risk.. think b4 u install anything in ur phone especially from the extra-devel.. or else have to format it back tongue.gif)

Let's put it this way:
Probably Nokia is rushing to launch this device as soon as possible, thus many functions weren't available yet and/or is currently very basic. That could also be one reason why they didn't plan to launch in Asia at first.

You can see that the phone features/functionality is very basic; They emphasize more on the web browsing experience as this was more of an Internet Tablet.

Anyway, the phone is still easy to use and straightforward. Only if you want to make use of the device capabilities, then you need some knowledge/skills; but that's smartphone anyway, else what's the reason to get a smartphone?
It depends on each person definition of what is best for them.

If in terms of "GENERAL", technically, the N900 is one of the most powerful smartphone available today.
But to a user/owner, it depends on what the person is looking for and what's important to them. Some might be looking for good camera, thus any phone which doesn't have good camera becomes not good. Some might say "aiyah, this phone no multi-touch" so, they call it not good. These are all "personal" opinion.
In technical terms, if you compare the power/capabilities of these phones, it's very obvious N900 is the best currently.

Doesn't matter if the N900 is the most powerful smartphone or not, most important is what "YOU" (the user) really wants. A powerful phone, might mean nothing to someone who doesn't make use of the feature/function, right?
Just depends on what "YOU" really want; doesn't matter what others think, whether it's the best or not; more importantly is what's best for yourself.  thumbup.gif

ahyo.. hm.. den probably need to wait for the official launching of N900 in Malaysia first den mayb later they will fix this problem.

i think its quite annoying when normally i only use one hand to text and the other hand busy with some other stuffs. now i MUST use both hands to text no matter wat. aiseh.. sad case la.. now i jus need to wait for the new firmware to update.
*
well u have to get use to it.. i don't think there will be new firmware update for Maemo5, coz nokia is launching MeeGo soon.. so just hoping MeeG0 will support portrait mode.

p/s: i've already get used in using landscape mode.. feels very awkward when using portrait right now haha.. (maybe becoz i've always wanted a landscape phone haha)

Warning to those who wanna buy this phone = Pls test this phone first before u buy it.. coz it is not like other phones available in the market.. many find it to hard for them

Haha, the portrait text messaging is useful for when... typing sms when you're.. *ahem* driving...
Good way to prevent users from typing sms with one hand activity  tongue.gif

When you're used to landscape mode, you might find portrait mode is less appealing already, because this landscape gives you widescreen view... After I've used to landscape browsing mode, and I tried changing to Portrait mode, I give up using portrait mode browsing. With landscape, mostly you just need to scroll up-down, with portait mode, you need to scroll left-right-up-down quite busy and reading text is not so fun.
As for reading SMS, I suspect it's also the same, long text will span multiple lines in portrait mode, and if there's on screen keyboard, it'll be number keyboard instead of QWERTY keyboard.

But anyway, it's still a NICE TO HAVE option. The next major update is coming (hopefully and probably before this N900 is launch in Malaysia), and hopefully it'll resolve many of the basic/minor or important issues, such as, MMS, contacts grouping, assign sms to contacts and also groups, storing/archiving old sms/conversations, able to sync with Ovi Suite (can transfer Symbian phone's SMS and Notes), fully functional Ovi Map, etc.

nokia will come out with maemo 6 with meego

maemo 5 cannot upgrade to meego yet

hp so canggih but u only use for call n sms function
so better seek other hp

unless u r gadget freak or geek, go for n900 or android phones
can customize many things...
*
Actually N900 have lots of functions rather than just call and sms. Well in some part I agree with u N900 has a pretty basic sms and call function, but do u ever think about the IM? This is the only phone that can open YM, MSN, Google Talk, Skype at the same time!!.. Plus they are all integrated into one.. same like pidgin in linux rclxm9.gif

The Emails (Mail for exchange and Nokia messanging) also work like charm.. smile.gif

The Internet browser.. There's no need to explain about it coz it has the best internet browser for phone right now biggrin.gif

p/s: I really love the ctrl-v and ctrl-x function.. feels like using a real computer whistling.gif

My conclusion for N900 is... U need to get a 3G connection / wifi for it to be totally utilize. I've been using N900 in quite awhile and still never get bored with it... So many things to be explored thumbup.gif

Hi drexar,

I'm planning to buy N900 real soon. But I never had a 3G phone before. I would like to ask you about your 3G experience using N900.

1) Which service provider are you using?
2) Was there any problem in setting up the 3G connection? How easy was it to setup?
3) Does the service provider allow access to other ports than the usual port such web, pop3, imap and smtp? One of the reason for me to buy N900 is to do remote support thru SSH (port 22).
*
Right now i'm using Celcom 3G prepaid weekly.. So malas tu have a contract postpaid with any service provider.. hehe

Anyway last time I'd to setup the 3G setting by myself since Celcom cannot configure it automatically. Maybe once the phone is available in the market, there will be a simpler way.

SSH? Not really familiar with that. But my service provider supports usual port like web, imap and stmp. (I've been using the emails a lot - 3 emails at a time... yahoo, google and my Microsoft exchange2003). I think it should be the same like Celcom broadband that u use it with ur computer. (U even can use ur phone as a 3G modem for your pc).

-Hope the answers are good enough-

Hmm... DIff OS wat difference will it make? I have no idea  blush.gif

Haven't tried Meego yet but we are hoping it will be much better than Maemo5.. (Well it is an upgrade version right hehe) I never regret buying this baby.. Well that is my personal view coz b4 this I used N82.. cannot fully utilize the internet function..

Tips: Think before u buy any phone.. don't simply follow other people.. if u like simple and easy to use phone, better go for iPhone and HTC Google Nexus One icon_rolleyes.gif

basically to put it short, jusy need to know what the buyer is actually looking for and weights out the important features. basically, if apps and games is very important, then Android might be a better choice especially now.

Yup i agree with you.. Think before u buy.. brows.gif
