im new to i5... not sure how to OC it yet.. but for users who owned the sunbeam CCF .... ive found a way to fit it onto the LGA1156 with the LGA775 mount

my proc is this-> http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=777959
2.8ghz with turbo on btw..(settings still all stock.. dare not move on till i know that the temps are safe) and ive resat the heatsink and tried another method of applying the TIM.. temps down by 2 degrees :/ *edit* finally got the hang of OC-ing the i5.. did 3.49ghz on stock voltage with load @ 60C XD... tho i dont wanna increase the voltage much as it will affect my monthly electric billzz (learned it the hard way) This post has been edited by Bonchi: Oct 20 2009, 01:18 PM |

the i5 stock cooler is really like a slice of bread over the processor :/ ... so far.. there aint many after market cooler around yet.. tho i realized that those push-pin type mounts on the LGA775 holes can cover the small the gap on the i5's mounting holes... thus.. you can actually throw on a xigmatek s1283 on the i5 system by removing the stock push-pins and replace them with screws

woah that is hot.. i dont even hit close to 80 with my i5 and sunbeam CCF without aircond @ 4.0ghz
anyways.. do you enable LLC? wonder how you get to 3.6ghz on 1.207v.. |

LLC = load line calibration LINK
which means it disables Vdroop and make your power phases on your mobo handle the voltages. enabling this will cause what voltage you set in your bios appear the same in cpuz.. and it stays constant even on idle.. using this i hit 4.2ghz (210*20) with 1.35v though its a one hit wonder only... dont need that much power for 24/7 (3.0 is good enough for me XD) |

ah .. i forgot bout that.. prolly it did cause tempts to go higher..
my cooler is sunbeam core contact freezer ... with some simple DIY mod on the mounts to fit the LGA1156 This post has been edited by Bonchi: Dec 23 2009, 05:41 PM |

OC-ing the i5 is a piece of cake lol... just turn off turbo, slap vcore to 1.4v.. lowest ram multiplier.. lowest QPI multiplier.. and push the BCLK slowly to find the sweet spot.. of course you need a good cooler to do that.. i dont think the hyper 212+ is really up for that task, but the sunbeam CCF made it to 4.4ghz (220X20) at the load of 75-80C
but of course 3.2ghz is good enough for everyday usage... lower electric bills... i even lower the voltage to 1.20 and made it run on 3ghz to make it save even more! |

yea... i find that weird in the i5.. the first core is always hotter than the rest.. and it seems like in order for the rest as well..
core 1: hottest ,core 2 : cooler than core 1, core 3 : cooler, core 4 : coolest resat the heatsink multiple times already and still yields the same result.. for me dont have to go all the way to 3.6 tho... 3.2 is the more than enough .. since now alot of apps has GPU acceleration ...aside from that, the temp is even cooler (makes my ambient cooler as well) the cores never hit beyond 60C haha |

i think your voltage got problem lo..try adding a little.. some to the NB as well
rams usually gives you BSOD.. so its not the rams |

lol.. if you cant wait for megatron.. you can get the sunbeam CCF
4ghz for i5 memang tutup mata boleh sampai dgn cooler nih... but beyond that is a wee bit scary.. coz my mobo is foxconn |

lol... expensive PSUs are expensive for a reason.. so are cheap PSUs are cheap for a reason XD ... i forgot where ive seen a review about huntkey.. but i guess when you see it.. you would avoid that brand lol (in the review.. the PSU exploded @ 100% usage stress test)
man.. i cant push my i5 any higher than 3.41ghz with 1.15v XD.. i wonder if anyone did better than this with 1.15? just curious about the quality of my current proc |

nah.. i wanna keep it undervolted and see how high it can be pushed.. electric bill kurang sikit ma XD.. optimizing power consumption and performance = better efficiency
btw 4ghz stable is easy only (thanks to 45nm).. last time i just slap my vcore to 1.37v, lowest ram multiplier.. lowest qpi multiplier.. and wala! 200X20 .. but make sure youre using a good cooler when doing it... i think the hyper 212+ is not that powerful in terms of cooling.. besides at the time when i bought my i5 (2 days after its official launch.. there's no compatible cooler yet ><) thats why i use back my old CCF from my C2D system.. and found a way to mount it on the 1156 80plus testing is not really intense when they give out the certificates ler... they test only @ 28C not 50C which is the optimum temp for PSU (most cheap ones the efficiency dropped @ 50C) ive not read about the xiggy 750w modular but i think you made a good choice of not getting the huntkey.. but should get seasonic ler.. single rail 12v+ awesome~~ |

not modular lo.. depends on ppl la.. if youre creative enough.. even non modular shouldnt be an issue.. as for me i prefer non modular coz correct me if im wrong.. non modulars had longer cables than modular ones..
your xiggy.. after reading a review i find it not bad.. can handle 100% stress so yea.. its good anyways.. OC-ing can seriously see your electric bill naik lol (especially if you're the type that leaves the pc on for 24/7) the diff in running on 4.0ghz and my cerrent setting is 50 ringgit diff |

c1e halt? i think thats good tho.. it really helps reduce your power consumption by alot.. and alot i mean by ALOT.. mine goes down to 0.84v on idle
tho honestly i've never used any AMI-bios related hardwares coz im more comfortable with pheonix/AWARD (now there's gigabyte ,biostar and DFI that uses it left) but i doubt its a bios problem edit: @ selfdz87 : youre not afraid your lappy HDD kong meh.. torrenting really kills your HDD man.. thats why i use a super old 160GB drive which has its warranty period over for torrenting This post has been edited by Bonchi: Jan 12 2010, 03:55 AM |

your BClk*your multiplier is correct in CPUz (128X20 = 2.56ghz).. is your BClk set on 128Mhz? coz thats lower than stock :/ aside from CPUz.. what other application show you? 2.56 also?.. i ask this coz cpuz sometimes screw up the reading.. there was ones it showed my CPU is 5ghz
... im starting to feel that your bios chip is screwed.. try RMA the mobo XD edit: you can get your bios by clicking this This post has been edited by Bonchi: Jan 12 2010, 08:32 PM |

hmmm.. i'm using windows 7 RC 32.. what is that high performance thing
and i didnt disable any of those in the bios.. it doesnt cause any probs for me so far (pheonix bios) you can try.. but i doubt that will do any help much.. coz when it steps down.. it'll step down all the way to X9 multiplier.. it doesnt seems to be your case there.. anyways do check this out :link:.. seems there's a problem with GD65 bios v1.6 .. why not try 1.5.. and if its still problematic go back all the way down to 1.0 and see.. and if your hardware is still new.. try exchanging with the shop (the mobo).. |

never simply flash your bios dude... for me.. i usually only will flash my bios to make my mobo support newer processors only.. i dont see the reason to update the bios frequently.. it will also disrupt your hard earn labour in overclocking your processor... coz your mobo may not behave the same after you flash it... and most of the time.. you will have to start back from square one..

lol.. no one try gigabyte/DFI? i prefer gigabyte's and DFI's Pheonix AWARD bios over asus's and MSI's AMI bios...
was a huge fan of genie bios tweaker from DFI.. but after gigabyte came out with their bios tweaker... i now prefer gigabyte over DFI coz of their availability anyways.. 8 pin is better coz it will provide better and more stable power flow to your processor (if im not mistaken.. the 24pin is for the mobo and that 4/8 pin is for your processor...) so its better for you if you OC.. in fact i avoid getting those with 4pins nowadays.. |
