finally a fellow i7 with H50 and gigabyte user...same setup bro...yup its hot u know y?gigabyte tends to overvolt ur proc to make the OC stable.. im thinking of modding my H50 also...custom reservoir and dual rad.. what ur temperature at 3.8ghz? i hit 4ghz and temperature were 94c Full load primed.CRAZY!!!! hot  sweat.gif using dual fan setup wooo...
*
the temp is insane, it same as my i7 920 running at 4.5ghz on TRUE doh.gif

is it ok to format a pc on OC state??
*
as long as your oc is stable, nothing to worry about.

I was trying to overclock Intel i3 530 too but i dont dare to overclock it to 4.4Ghz as i dont hav any chassis fan.Might do 3.6Ghz.I am using Gigabyte motherboard.

How to tune the voltage?Cpu voltage = Cpu Vcore?

And yea,to get 3.6Ghz,must i set the multiplier to 22x and Bus Speed to 164Mhz?Can i do it with multiplier 20x and Bus Speed 180Mhz?

How long should i stress test using Prime95?Some say 2 hours is sufficient as more hours will harm the hardwares. But some says 24 hours as the overclocking might get unstable.Btw,how do i know whether the stress test is successful anot?If failed, the pc will reboot?
*
better cpu cooler is much more important then chassis fan.
u can do by any multiplier that allow you to set, combined with bus speed to get your desire clock.
for a stable overclock, stress it with prime 95 with max ram set, and run it from 2 - 8 hours.

But when i open Prime95,there r 3 modes.Which 1 should i choose?And how should i know whether the overclocking is stable anot?

The 3 modes r

Small FFTs
In place large FFTs
Blend

And CPU Vcore = CPU voltage?
*
vcore = cpu voltage.

choose custom then set memory to use to max, let say u have 4 gb ram, u can set around 3200 - 3400.

if no error come out then it was stable..

I have 2Gb DDR3 1333Mhz Kingston ram only so wat value should i put?

As for other settings?

Number of torture test threads to run = ?
Min FFT size in K = ?
Max FFT size in K = ?
Run FFT s in place = On or off?
Time to run each FFT size = ?
Memory to use = ?

Btw,in previous post,u tune ur Vcore to 1.456V to achieve 4.4Ghz right?How much V do i need to get 3.6GHz?Should be lower right?Perhaps 1.25V?

And yea,i saw u posting the memory part.Do i need to configure the ram frequency as well?
*
1.25 should be enough for a i3 to do 3.6ghz.
change the memory to use , other default.

I c..thanks for answering.

Final 2 questions  tongue.gif

How much should i put for memory in use as i has 2Gb only

And should i tune the voltage and frequency for memory in Bios?
*
it depend one how many memory left, i am not sure about 2gb, but 2 gb should be too less for stability test..

u can find tune your memory setting to get best performance.

Rams were running stock voltages when i ran it @ DDR1600..Just wonder why @ 4ghz the rams are not even able to achieve 1400mhz. Is it due to the mobo not able to supply enough power?
*
ram uses very low power, 1w - 2w only for each stick, so it should not be the ram problem..
it might be your mobo are not able to efficiently handle this ram divider?

@hengmy

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i...156,2626-5.html

based on that article for p55 UD7, what is "Bios Vcore" shows on the overclocking table? do you have it on p55 ud6? and what is your current or default skew for both pch/mch? and also clock amplitude?
*
bios vcore should be how many vcore added in bios, there are 2 option to add vcore in ud6, one is direct set the vcore u desire, another one is add from your stock vcore, i guess he use the second method.

Indeed. But then 8 minutes of Intel Burn Test or Linx is like 20 hours of Prime 95.For safety measure, run both  laugh.gif
*
This statement is not true anymore, linx might be accurate to test the vcore of the processor, but not the whole system like ram, qpi etc..

*
press Ctrl + F1 at the main bios page, then go in M.I..T and it will appear under frequency setting page.

*
i am using f9, f7c is a beta bios.
after flickered, it will appear under MIT.

thnx my fren...and oh ya wats the safest way to update ur bios.no choice but to update lastime i crashed the darn bios...kinda traumatized edi  sweat.gif
*
hmm, gigabyte have dual bios, so 1 bios crash is ok what biggrin.gif
i am using Q-flash, just copy the bios file to a pendrive, choose Q-flash, browse the bios file from your pendrive to flash..

Hey, im just curious whether is there such thing as the processor becomes weaker in overclocking after a few months / years time ?  sweat.gif  For example, now I can run it at 4ghz but in a few months time I will not be able to run it 4ghz stable due to degradation of processor.
*
it might degrade after 10 years, but i guess no one proof it yet..
cause no one use a processor that long i guess tongue.gif

new i5 member reporting..just get new cooler and start to learn oc my proc,me still new in the intel i series..

i manage to hit 3.6ghz with 1.28v and do prime test, but after 1 hour the prime stooped working, like the program crashes..but linx 20 loop passed nicely.

so ,is it had sumthing to do with stability of my proc or...?
googled and find same prob but they mention on vista OS..
*
it might be your memory or uncore is not stable..

mybe bro..because out of 5 memtest, 1 memtest showing an error and stop working..but suppose if the uncore not stable bsod shud happen rite?

carkdale dont have uncore technology, only lynnfield in lga1156 have it..

i guess it had to with imc.
did u increase the imc V?supposedly ur GT shud be able to reach 2150mhz with cl8(so jealous looking at this rate, based on bro hengmy ram OC result)

mine need 1.36 v on imc to make 2000mhz cl8 stable.
i just tested 2 board only, GD 80 and this M3G.smile.gif
*
how was your gskill doing? share some results, it look impresive wub.gif

hengmy is using Dom GT CMG kit which is better at overclocking than my CMT kit sad.gif

hengmy, u can come to my house and see for yourself, my ram can't do much laugh.gif

p/s: sell me your ram by installment RM150/month brows.gif
*
hmm, what diff between cmg and cmt?
actually i am thinking to keep the ram because by looking at the market, there are not much good ram to choose, unless hypers chip which is too expensive...
