Hi,

My Harman Kardon AV Amp switch off by itself after about 10 minutes of play. I suspect that it caused by overheating. But I don't know what could be the cause. Previously I never had this problem. It only happen about 1 month back. Any one experience a similar problem and can advise me on how to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

If it is still under warranty, better send back to distro.

Changes in speakers impedance might cause the amp to overheated. Recheck speakers cable and try one speaker first to narrow down the problem.

Secondly, if the built-in fan is not working will also caused the amp to shut down.

Any sound from your speakers before it shut down?

Took out all the speaker and sub woofer connection. Open up the case, clean up the dust and switch it on. 10 minutes later it switch off by itself.

Added on August 27, 2009, 9:49 pmSpeakers and sub all still working before shutdown. There is no fan inside. It uses heatsink.

bro, did u try to set the front spkr to 'small' and let the LFE to the subwoofer. normally for some AVR they will auto switch off, when the current is to high supplied to the front spkr. cheers.

I actually took out all the speaker and subwoofer connection and left it on. It took about 10 minutes before it switch off by itself. Quite irritating when u are watching a movie.

I already googled the address for IMS. I'll contact them today and update u guys later.

This has comfirmed the fault is in the amp. Nothing to do with the speakers, cables or sub. Even without any load it still shut down. It could be the system control.

Hi,

Didn't know the amp has a sleep timer. But I don't think so as there is no clock.

Anyway took the amp to IMS (No 4 Jalan BP4/2 Bandar Bukit Puchong) today during lunch. Its located in an industrial area. It took me some 30 minutes to find the place (located at Wisma Trio) with Google map.

Have to pay RM20 for the diagnosis. Also told them to update the firmware. They will get back to me in 7 days on the estimated cost before proceeding. Hopefully not too costly.
