All depends on species. Some females 8-15 years, and I've heard some living 30-40 yrs. Males live about a year after they mature so it depends on how long it takes to mature- again depending on species.

yeah, and if it survives the next molt it will live even longer. The thing is most mature males do not survive the next molt. Hence the one year time frame since most adult T's will molt at least once a year.

what will happen if we dont provide deep substrate for burrowing sp to burrow? will it stress them severely n leads to death? or ive read that if no deep enuf substrate, they'll just spin lotsa web to make their hides..

Don't know- I've always given my obligate burrowers lots of substrate. What reason would a keeper have for not giving a burrower substrate to burrow in? hmm.gif
I have seen burrowers in pet shops sitting in a stressed position but pet shops don't really have a choice- can't sell the T if the T is in a hole! rolleyes.gif

ETA: Don't know if they all will spin lots of webs but I have a WC H. lividum and a WC H. schmidti that would not settle down for a few months. The cobalt took to the burrow but would not web, just stayed in the burrow during the day and roamed around at night. The H. schmidti would hide among the silk plants and would web a little. Both settled down after they molted and have adopted their burrows now.

Yeah- I checked its fangs and it wasn't red. I was real busy the last two days- did not have time to check on my T's. I don't think it molted today- probably 2-3 days ago. Small T's don't take as long as adults. tongue.gif

3-4 week old crickets. Occasionally I'll give the small ones a mealworm if I can't make it to my usual place to get crickets.

There's a theory going around that mice/pinkies have too much calcium which can cause molt problems. As far as I know, this is still a theory. Perhaps you can raise one of your t's on pinkies and let us know if there are any problems! tongue.gif

Added on August 30, 2009, 12:04 amGetting 3 T's tomorrow(hopefully) rclxm9.gif Can't wait! Been a while since I got new T's. 2 of the 3 I already have but these are confirmed females. Will post pics when I get them.

Very nice! Always glad to see more peeps appreciating these pet holes! biggrin.gif
I think the term 'pet holes' do a disservice to these T's cause they are usually quite visible- except for one of my cobalts, all my pet holes can be seen almost on a daily basis.

Start a colony of roaches! An adult roach is slightly larger than a pinky (length wise), not sure about weight though. hmm.gif

Did you start a burrow for it? hmm.gif

I set mine up like this...

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Most of my haplos will find the hole within the first night, some will start expanding on it the very first day. I used to set the hole up on the side, I still do sometimes, but since they usually hang out at the mouth of the burrow it does not really make much of a difference. One nice thing about burrow entrances in the middle is you will get a volcano when they start expanding on it. biggrin.gif

laugh.gif They all burrow like ants! tongue.gif But that's the nice thing about burrowers, they build interesting burrows! If yours is like mine, it will be hanging out at the burrow entrance often.

LOL- true. One of the reasons why I like burrowers- so easy to set up. Unfortunately one of the 3 I'm getting is a pokie. Building the lids for an arboreal setup takes more work!

Tarantulas don't attack people. They are defensive in nature. Meaning they tend to defend their territory.

Thats what I meant by aggressive too... I mean you don't actually see them going to your room and trying to kill you in your sleep right?

Why you wanna stress your t out?

and by saying that you tend to give out false info.

Then people will get the wrong idea about animals.

Person 1:" EH THIS THING VERY AGGRESSIVE LOVE TO BITE PPL."

Person 2:"WAH THEN I MUST KILL IT WHEN I SEE IT LATER IT BITE ME"

get it?

I've got 3 juvies - all unsexed. Hoping at least one of them will be a male. Also waiting for 2 more sub-adults from a vendor with some Chinese imports coming in- so far it's been one delay after another. But it should arrive soon though. So among these 5, odds are pretty good that one will be a male.

I'll wait and see which ones are male or female. Yeah I do not need more than 2 females so if I get a bunch of females I'll offer them up for adoption at my club.

A settled down T is not an active T.

By 'no power' you mean you kacau it, it don't move as much?

Or in general not moving a lot.

Ah they haven't molted in forever. The 'legs' i can't recall the scientific name right now, are much browner/gold-ish than a hainanums.

It took a while before the colour went back to being gold.

Which made me think it was the dark form schmidti.

Also discovered my female T. blondi is not gravid, looks like she is going to molt, her butt is darkening.
On the not so good news front, one of my 'female' longipes turned out male. Hope the other one is at least a female or I'll have to go work something out with the vendor. rolleyes.gif

oh god!u are lucky!
my opinion is,it looks like a mature male tarantula,u can see there were hooks on tibias with a boxing glove like figure at the pedipalps, and that is the reason u can find this little guy when he was on his may looking for the female.perhaps if u are able to follow it's footstep,u may find the female.
but since now u already brought him back, the only thing u can do is to id him.i guess it would be some sort of Coremiocnemis, but u know they should'nt just judged by appereance.i wonder how the female will be looking like.nice one mate!

thats what i thought as well, its genus is Coremiocnemis.
is there any possible i can buy the female from anyone?
was thinking to breed them as their population is decreasing and they havent been really verified yet...

only the genus confirmtion can do nothing, furthermore, the genus is just our guess,it might turn out others.
even if u got the genus right, how bout the species?hybrids cant work.
if it happens that we could do nothing, then relese him back, expect him to meet the female.

i am not sure my decision is like you think.
i was thinking to turn it to verified by someone that knows about them.
may be by prof that i know, i am not sure.
but put it back to the wild will be the last resort where no one can verified it or not interested in verified it.
i can find no references, that's why the specimen is still important.

Wow, did not log in this thread for a bit and it's 19 pages already? Finally finished reading all 19 pages and here's a summary to my replies.

1. Congratulations to all that have acquired new T's. Me included (pat on the back) as I have a few on the way from Eugene and Tunemystylez hehehe! Not to mentioned those I got from Rafiq 2 weeks ago.

2. Great job on the promotion and education by Andrew and his team in Penang.

3. My slings have been molting as well and its great to see them growing bigger. smile.gif

4. Welcome to all new T addicts. Its good to know that there are others in the same boat! smile.gif

5. Mental note: Must enrol at Unimas if T's do "walk-ins" so frequently.

then i wish that you are not the next person who gone crazy cause all the people that go into the deep of the jungle came out differently. i am not sure why, but just to remind you as bomoh in peninsula came in here also gone crazy before they gone back to semenanjung.

if you are not affraid of being killed or harmed by the villages that take care of the land here, then just come in.

the third thing you have to know is that you might be gone to jail as foreigners that travel in the jungle of unimas will be arrested. to remind you this, unimas is not small campus, unimas was once known to have the biggest land in south east asia. now i am not sure as half of the land will turn to matriculation institution.

just my two cents. icon_rolleyes.gif

I caught it hanging on my curtain. It doesnt seem like normal spider because it looks big to be normal spider but too small to be tarantula. rclxub.gif

I measure its size is 1 cm from head to ass and after i put it in the transparent kotak it just climb up and start curling like in the pic for infinite hours. Before climbing up it look like walk cacat abit maybe when i catch inujure the behind leg. And i notice it didnt jump like normal spider but crawl around with the cacat leg.

Can you tell me exactly what it is?

All I see is a brownish thing with some black markings. Whatever it is, I am so darn curious now. Got any better pics of this orb weaver?

Some weavers do get big but the most I've seen are in the 2 -3 inch leg span range.(which really isn't saying much biggrin.gif ) Anyway, if it is an orb weaver, stick a couple of branches on either side of the enclosure. Good luck with your spider, and hope you get a nice pic. Here's one I found a few months back- some guys at my club thought it was some kind of orb weaver too....

--... during my attempts of taking pictures of my T's I had the experience of my lifetime..

The rosea was quiet and even crawled on my arm and stayed there for about 10 minutes.. then it darted to my face...== (maybe it likes my nostril...)

My murinus (dash) was very quiet today... It moved slow and pose for a few pics.. before he jump to the edge of the container. Before i could even close the lid, it ran onto my hand and off the ground.. scurried away under my coach.

Murinus= fast & furious.

Moved my coach, It curiously stayed there. i blocked his escape and cover it with the lid.

so he;s safely back in his home.... fheww....!!~~~

pics going up as soon as i find out how to upload it from my cousins cam.. LOL

You talking about Cyriopagopus or Haplopelma or both?
There's also other Asian T's with the striped butts from other genus ....Phormingochilus, Ornithoctonus, Lampropelma etc. Are those considered earth tigers too? hmm.gif

It's crazy when you think Cambodians pay 10-20 cents for a fried T and the hobbyist pays 25 bucks for the same WC animal!

Typically they aren't in high demand and a lot of WC adults go for pretty decent prices here. Even the CB slings are pretty cheap- there's just no demand for haplo- I guess most people think they don't get to see it much. rolleyes.gif

Most WC adults go for USD 25-50 (except for minax, hainanum and schmidti- still not very common)
minax slings I've seen go for USD 25-30
lividum slings go for as low as USD 10-15
albostriatum slings - USD 15-20
longipes(not sure if it is the real thing) go for USD 15-20
hainanum slings was around USD 30 last year but I think they've dropped a little
schmidti slings about USD 20-25 (been waiting for mine since June!)
vonwirthi- adults are like USD 25, no idea if anyone has bred them

These are just ball park figures and may not be current- this old nugget of mine can't remember much these days! tongue.gif
Look up AB for sale/trade section for most current prices.

i just got my 6inch salmon pink today from danny94(no photo^^)
well, received the package at around 2pm.....
everything goes well until around 5 o'clock, i wanted to rehouse it,so i left the container OPEN inside my room..tot nothing will happen as before i went to prepare the new housing, it stay still there for quite long time...when i go back to the room, i found the salmon pink is GONE!!!
my 6th sense told me it wont gone anywhere far...so i kept look for it..
i looked for it from 5pm something to 9pm something, i even moved all my funiture out of my room....but i just couldnt find it....
at around 9pm, i found it inside my cupboard...it is too black i guess, i looked inside the cupboard for more then 3 times already, but didnt see it....
i dont realise it was there until i touched it(on top of my jacket).i was shock when i touched it....all my roomate laughed at me....><

Here are the pics as promised....

The OBT

The one tired to escape me when I was taking his pics.

He posed for a few then dashed to the edge. Before i could close the lid.

There he was.. On my hand. Then ran away to the underside of the couch,

No molds like to grow there (until now even with misting)

It comes from a tall tree with small yellow flowers and legumes.. no idea what's it call
