i should have known... but impressive that you manage to capture a pic of the MET.. coz that lil bugger is darn fast runner.. even when i just picked up its container it will instantly run to its burrow.. n never to be seen again....

Well i put it in a big 1.5 feet toyogo box full of substrate and let it run free there
It's in pre-molt so cant climb well on wall, easier to control the situation tongue.gif

you can try reading up on tarantulas.

the best place to start would be from our tarantula thread in lyn.

then move on to other sites or forums, make sure you're really confident and sure about owning one before committing to buying.

a female T can easily live for above 30 years with proper care, so make doubly sure you'd be committed!

just bought post-sling smithi yesterday, the color is vibrant. I put it in the KFC bucket container with a a few holes on the lids. Bought a coconut peats and fill in the peat up until half filled the container. Also put a small flower pot for the sling to hide and a small water tray (mac d ketchup small tray).

The coconut peat is not so dry but I noticed when I put the smithi, it doesnt want to touch the soil and tend to put her leg at the wall. Also gave her small mealworm and it doesnt seem like interested.

Last night I checked her out, open the lid and she like sticked to the wall...so i closed the lids then suddenly she try to escaped through to small lids hole and she hang her fangs through the holes (upside down) and then she fell thru. I open the lid again and to my surprise and shock, one of her leg stuck at the lids! I feel so guilty and dunno what to do so i close back the lids and went to sleep.

This morning I checked her again and she's hiding under the flower pot, mist the wall and left for work.

Expert, need your advice on my smithi care, however she's seem so docile though but at night she's very active.

Hey guys, just back from my trip from Fraser hill. Nice place. Having fun exploring the jungle trails but couldnt found much fauna there. Just found couple of scorpion keychains in the souvenir shop. sad.gif

dolphincry: It is a normal act for a tarantula when they are new to an environment. They will just stay on the container lid. Just left it there. It will come down when it feels home. btw, if your substrate are considered "wet", it will also refuse to come down. Smithi comes from arid area. When you meant "not so dry", it could be "quite wet" for a smithi.
Tarantulas are nocturnal. They are active at night and stay inactive during day time. It is completely normal. Do more research.

my smithi is ok now, she dug a hole until reach the bottom of the container. I bought her a critter cave for rm5 and she's seem comfy with it.

quite afraid to handle my smithi sling, is there any chance she will bite? So far she never show any defensive pose yet eventhough i touch with the colour brush

theres always a chance they will bite, if u would have read alot, u would see that it has been mentioned alot of times that a keeper should never handle their Ts for no apparent reason, it will not only risk u getting bitten but also risk ur T being dead
