i guess you must be wary not to overuse if not you will be charged for the extra data used.

You can use your phone to browse the web site, such as nokia 5800.
Or connect your phone to the computer via cable. You have to install nokia pc suite beforehand.

No need so complicated.

Your phone is a modem itself. Like 56k modem it dial out like telephone similar to handphones.

Since its not a 3G phone it max can reach should be the edge. For normal surfing no need 3G

Surprisingly , yes.

I checked my postpaid menu. *100#

Choose the first (1) option - Mobile Internet, and you would get

1. 1 hour
2. 1 day
3. 500 mb
etc

I am not sure how postpaid customer's going to be charged. Will it be considered as 'usage' or extra value added service. But knowing how stingy maxis is, it'll most likely be charged as VAS service, on top of the monthly commitment fee.

I haven't tried it yet on postpaid.

It is a good start for Maxis to provide Hotlink subscriber with prepaid broadband. We can use the Maxis broadband suit with our usage. We can choose the package based on hours, days and monthly with NO SPEED CAPPED. But the only disadvantage was the package comes with bundled limited data.

Celcom is still cheaper but maxis offering a few other choices as well such as per hour usage.

http://neato4u.wordpress.com/2009/08/27/tr...s-mobile-phone/

and yes, surfing internet on your normal prepaid rate is just crazy. 1kB/1sen = gila meh? Loading up my front page blog will cost you RM3 and that's with minor pics and text, how about sites which have flash and stuffs... and don't even think about youtube sweat.gif

Fully unlock meaning that all telco sim can use the modem. Umobile, digi, maxis, celcom all can use.
Just need to alter the setting.

you have to try your modem using maxis or digi sim.
If can be used, then the modem is already unlocked before.

Yes, you can use your phone. No problem. But you can't get 3G or HSDPA speed tho.

my opinion, quite expensive..

for example, 1 day package = rm8 (limited to 500mb)

while celcom offer 1 day = rm6 (limited to 1GB)

althoug celcom limit the speed to 384kbps but it still ok, maxis give maximum speed but limit to 500mb usage so no point. but at least we have alternative to celcom prepaid broadband right now. and dont forget digi also offer rm5 capped on data charges every day.

celcom is currently experiencing serious network congestion.. since celcom broadband users about 420,000 users (not include daily unlimited, weekly unlimited, and pay per use user).

that equal to 60% of the total market share.

so i hope with the recent launch of digi broadband and the launching of maxis prepaid broadband will reduce celcom network congestion. as for now, i'll stick with my celcom broadband since i still satisfied with it. but from the survey i found that many celcom broadband user keep complaining lately..

Celcom sama bumbung dengan Screamyx parent company jugak sweat.gif

Which one do you prefer, a snail speed limited to 1GB per day OR
a faster speed but limited to 500MB per day?

Let's say a 1GB file will take Celcom 384kbps 5 hours to download
but the same 1GB file will only take Maxis (someone mentioned 1000kbps? I'll based on that then) only 2 hours to download.

For user which does not have that much leisure time, they will go for Maxis.

I know I would prefer faster speed (for just rm2 extra, I don't mind paying).

You can get more things done faster if you have fast connection.
Same as you can get more things done if given a fast PC than a slow one.

My point of view smile.gif

actually celcom use their own facility, not depend on streamyx.. they have their own backbone as well as their own international gateway link.

in my opinion, celcom bb performance is still acceptable at my area.. although not as fast as before. some people prefer good speed, some people prefer consistency, some people prefer widest coverage, some people prefer cheap price.. so its up to you.

as for me, i dont need high speed.. as long as i can do my work. and of course coverage is important because im travel a lot.

anyway, maxis early this year has announce they huge investment in improving their data services, and i believe they learn from mistake by over selling their maxis broadband before. now celcom is the one who over sell their broadband. i got some internal information that celcom just add 4 new pipeline each with capacity 4Gb/sec in last april, and we all receive a good service but it only last till june.. in July it become overcrowded again.

note: this morning im using celcom bb at KLCC and the speed is ok, but usually it will become slower in the afternoon.

i got 2 people using celcom @ ipoh and speed is not good either sweat.gif

one of them migrated over to maxis already and i now see big happy smile face - said when using celcom before even youtube need to wait for a lot of buffering.

well, i guess i might just stop there.

This is a thread about "Maxis Prepaid Broadband" not a brand-war or comparison of it's service with Celcom (in which I am positively sure there is another thread for this).

And I suggest you should stop too epool86 - you sounds like a Celcom promoter!

actually celcom use their own facility, not depend on streamyx.. they have their own backbone as well as their own international gateway link.

in my opinion, celcom bb performance is still acceptable at my area.. although not as fast as before. some people prefer good speed, some people prefer consistency, some people prefer widest coverage, some people prefer cheap price.. so its up to you.

as for me, i dont need high speed.. as long as i can do my work. and of course coverage is important because im travel a lot.

FYI, maxis3g with UNET apn is very very stable & consistent... it also come with dynamic ip address...i'm using both celcom & maxis..... the winner is maxis.

Celcom always appear that red thinggy message saying Service Currently Not Available....even normal surfing got problem...

yes, that is the disadvantages of using celcom because it using shared IP. by the way, i never see that 'red thinggy message' like you mentioned..

like i said, maxis showing a lot of improvement after they improve their network capacity early this year. they learn from mistake, we need to balance the market share so each of service provider got fair market share so all of us can enjoy better service.

so, if any celcom bb did not satisfied with the service, they can switch to maxis. i just want celcom broadband service come back to normal, so i can enjoy excellent service like before. nowadays, during peak hour speed is slow.

about stability/consistency.. so far im satisfied, no major issue.

Maxis recently having problem with their system... I subscribed weekly broadband and I over use 2Gb so wanna resubscribed again but cant so I called customer service twice and they still cant solve it... Luckily resubscribed again yesterday, maybe still new so might have that problem...

celcom last few weeks ago until now, my customers and I always got "Service Currently Not Available" blue box message which quite annoying... we need to disconnect and connect only can use back the service but that problem will pop-up again every 5 minutes then we have to disconnect and connect again.... doh.gif

I'm now very very happy with my maxis speed... thumbup.gif
stable, fast and no network problem if compare to celcom...

I think it's not a bad deal. Celcom broadband only gives you 384kbps, but maxis weekly gives you 3.5G speed

nope... 1 hour plan is not count like that...

Let say u subscribe 1 hour plan at 10am, ur plan will expired at 11am... Thats 1 hour plan...
u can disconnect or connect anytime during that hour...
but once ur 1 hour plan expired, u need to resubscribe again to continue if u wish to...

FUP for 1 hour plan is 100MB... Means ur plan will expired/disconnect anytime once u use internet more than 100MB during that 1 hour plan...

So the data usage allocated for the weekly subscription is 2GB for RM25 right? Maxis is also offering a monthly subscription at RM98 per month with a quota of 3GB. So, if we subscribe 4 times in a month, that means we will have to pay RM100 with a quota of 8GB total. That sounds better than the monthly subscription...

Hey hotlink users!
if you're in between the age group of 17-24 years old....

I'm doing a twinning programme with the University of Abertay Dundee and currently conducting a research topic on Maxis Hotlink users for the final project of my Marketing Research module. Kindly spend few moments to help out as I need more & more respondents...

here's the link.. http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=...63-503f9f9c3881

Thank you very much!

p/s: just PM me if you've any feedbacks =)

actually, you can make a call and sms , the call and sms might be a bit expensive
call to maxis - RM0.33 / min
call to other network - RM0.39 / min
SMS[to all network] - RM 0.10

the maxis prepaid broadband is cheaper ,

RM 58 - 1.5GB for 30days
RM 70 - 3 GB for 30 days
RM 90 - 6 GB for 30 days

compared to maxis mobile internet

yes, you need to configure some setting..

i'm not familiar with iPhone's setting
you just need to enter the setting below in the correct place [connection setting]

Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network

APN setting: bbnet
Access number: *99#
Username: Maxis
Password: wap

the sim card is different price, the starter pack is RM 20

the RM 58 is the price of the package.. , RM 58 for 1.5GB for 30 days

just top up as normal,, and you can subscribe the package, the volume quota/balance will be forfeited..

so you need to use it wisely. smile.gif

thanks. if i purchase the ipad plan, then put the sim card in usb modem and connect it to my netbook, i can surf with no problems, right?
the reason i'm asking is coz the ipad plan has bigger quota than what i'm using now (7 days 2GB). bigger quota to me means no need to re-purchase the plan too many times.

thanks again.
