iPhone Generation : 3GS
Unlocked? (or Part Number): Maxis
Current Firmware : 3.01
iTunes Version : 8.2
Jailbreaking software : No
Problem Encountered : Just wan to inform, i dont have any problem on my phone.

I have noticed that i3GS reception worse on 3g than edge/gprs signal.. the signal bar very low between 1-2 bar.. but full strength when i turn 3g off. Especially when you hold the phone(right hand), the 3g signal from 4-5 bars dramatically drop down to 1 bar in few seconds.. when i put down the phone back, the 3g signal going up again.. however, this is not effecting to edge/gprs signal when u hold the phone.

Steps Taken So Far : Try Maxis and Celcom, same result.. Test at Sg Buloh and Bukit Jalil, same result.. OS 3.0 and OS 3.01 same result..

Does anyone have Google UK as the default google search location in their Safari? Mine is set to UK. Would like to change it to either MY or US but don't think I am able to. Any hints?

edit: got my unit (3GS 32GB) from Maxis. Using a non-maxis line.

to be really honest, it would be extremely hard to prove to maxis that you are currently holding a faulty unit (from your reception "experiments"). the onus is on you.

my best bet? to ensure that you are not hallucinating, biased et cetera, is to exchange with a friend who is using the 3G S as well and from a different area.

let him/her to experience your unit for a few days and see how it goes. if the problem still persists, then your claim against maxis would be more believable and substantial.

i have used australian 3GS unit before for a week, same result.. 50% low strength and 50% good strength bar.. try it ur self, put ur phone down and when the signal going tu 4-5 bars, take and hold the phone(bottom to half), use ur right hand and wait for few seconds.. make sure u turn 3g on..

i found a solutions how to enable maxis mms for OS3.1/MAXIS 5.0 ..

1. Power off 3gs
2. Switch to non maxis sim card
3. Turn on 3gs and go to General>Network>Cellular Data network> Leave Blank all field except 2 below:
- MMSC: http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc
- MMS Proxy: 202.75.133.49
*You will see the MMS Proxy: 202.75.133.49:80 (remove the red)
4. Return back to Home Screen and power off the 3gs
5. Switch back to maxis sim card and Turn on
6. That's it.. it work for me

If your dont have other telco sim card, maybe u have to full restore your 3gs.
