I saw new Dell Inspiron 7000 on sale. Seems pricey. Is it possible to get price much cheaper than Dell.com.my?

Looks like the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 is out. Not sure if I fancy the 3 weeks of waiting.

So it has been over a week since I use the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 laptop. Overall my impression of the unit:

So my unit came in earlier than the expected arrival date which I'm glad it did. Nothing special about the box.

This is what I got, the laptop, power adapter and the power cord. The rest was just simple instruction pamphlet on how to use Windows 8.

On the right side, the unit has a SD card reader, a USB 2.0 port, and LAN port.

Left side, Power Jack, HDMI out, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and mic/headphone jack. Sadly no sign of VGA out.

Laptop looks sturdy but its still plastic with glass. From afar you might think its made out of aluminum. The touch screen works well so no complaint. The weight (1.4kg) is a big plus as it made it easier to carry around.

The battery can generally last 5 hours with wifi (using Dell power management), and 8 hours without wifi.

Keypad has a nice size to it, no complaints. The power button however is a bit hard to press as the button is quite small and require you to push a bit harder to make contact.

There is no pause/break key though. No backlit too.

The Inspiron 11 boots up quite fast. From the time I press the power button (cold start) to the Win8 welcome screen, it clocks in at 12 seconds. I type in the password (as fast as I can) and after 20 seconds reached the desktop screen.

Putting the laptop to sleep mode (press power button once), and waking it up again, it takes about 5 seconds to reach the welcome screen.

I am happy with the boot up time. Who knows how fast it will be if I replace the HDD with SSD and upgrade the RAM from 2GB to 4/8GB?

The performance however is average at best. Sometime application will take some time to load. It might be due to the 2GB RAM. I plan at some point to upgrade it anyway, and maybe test some games with mid range settings.

Overall I am satisfied with this laptop so far. For the sake of assurance, I bought it with 2 years of Dell warranty.

Nice review, how bout playing HD movie 1080p using default video apps? Any lag?

Haven't tried. I mainly use it to do work so when I get home I really don't touch it as I usually fire up my desktop. You recommend me a 1080p file to try out. I will be using VLC player.

Yes I just test a 1080p youtube video and it runs well, although I don't see any benefit since the display is only 1366x768

Latest price I saw was RM1349. When I purchase it was RM1399 so consider yourself lucky.

I do plan to upgrade the RAM of this unit but gotta be careful as the RAM used is known as LDDR3, not your normal DDR3.

Bro i think that is a VGA to HDMI? and not VGA to USB (i dont think there is one?) ?

If you see closely, got LINE OUT, which is the audio output from the HDMI.

Also, all laptop got female connector, so the one you see in the pic shows a female connector. How to connect to laptop?

Recently my Dell Inspiron 11 3000 felt very sluggish particularly when browsing the web. Not sure if it had to do with the 2GB RAM so going to upgrade the memory and see the result.

Successfully upgrade Dell Inspiron 11 3000. Too bad found out it has ONE RAM slot, but its okay since I bought 8GB DDR3L.

Performance is much better than before. Can be really challenging opening up the bottom piece.

Cost me RM240 for the 1 piece of 8GB DDR3L.
