ive bought an inspiron 14 from dell.com.my and the representative told me that the laptop can't go higher than 6GB of RAM based on OS and hardware. Is it really true that a laptop at this time can't use 8GB of RAM even with 64bit OS?
*
64-bit OSes would allow usage of more than 3.25gb of ram. For this case, perhaps it's a Dell hardware limitation somewhat.

I saw new Dell Inspiron 7000 on sale. Seems pricey. Is it possible to get price much cheaper than Dell.com.my?

I'm afraid not. But would be glad to hear some good news.

By the way the new 7000 series looks very similar to a MacBook Pro, sharing some many similarities in term of exterior design.

Guys, I'm using the Dell 15r Inspiron. N5010 to be specific. Out of curiosity, how to check my processor's model eh? I tried right clicking my computer and click on properties. I can see that it is core i5. But how to check the model of the processor? model numbers like i5-3xxxmq

Looks like the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 is out. Not sure if I fancy the 3 weeks of waiting.

im thinking of getting this inspiron 14 7000. i saw some websites saying the screen is 1080 like this

http://www.gadgetreview.com/2013/10/dells-...-15-and-17.html

So it has been over a week since I use the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 laptop. Overall my impression of the unit:

So my unit came in earlier than the expected arrival date which I'm glad it did. Nothing special about the box.

user posted image
This is what I got, the laptop, power adapter and the power cord. The rest was just simple instruction pamphlet on how to use Windows 8.

user posted image
On the right side, the unit has a SD card reader, a USB 2.0 port, and LAN port.

user posted image
Left side, Power Jack, HDMI out, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and mic/headphone jack. Sadly no sign of VGA out.

Laptop looks sturdy but its still plastic with glass. From afar you might think its made out of aluminum. The touch screen works well so no complaint. The weight (1.4kg) is a big plus as it made it easier to carry around.

The battery can generally last 5 hours with wifi (using Dell power management), and 8 hours without wifi.

user posted image
Keypad has a nice size to it, no complaints. The power button however is a bit hard to press as the button is quite small and require you to push a bit harder to make contact.

user posted image
There is no pause/break key though. No backlit too.

The Inspiron 11 boots up quite fast. From the time I press the power button (cold start) to the Win8 welcome screen, it clocks in at 12 seconds. I type in the password (as fast as I can) and after 20 seconds reached the desktop screen.

Putting the laptop to sleep mode (press power button once), and waking it up again, it takes about 5 seconds to reach the welcome screen.

I am happy with the boot up time. Who knows how fast it will be if I replace the HDD with SSD and upgrade the RAM from 2GB to 4/8GB?

The performance however is average at best. Sometime application will take some time to load. It might be due to the 2GB RAM. I plan at some point to upgrade it anyway, and maybe test some games with mid range settings.

Overall I am satisfied with this laptop so far. For the sake of assurance, I bought it with 2 years of Dell warranty.

Haven't tried. I mainly use it to do work so when I get home I really don't touch it as I usually fire up my desktop. You recommend me a 1080p file to try out. I will be using VLC player.

You can try youtube 1080p music video, or use internet download manager to download the file and play on videos. nod.gif

Yes I just test a 1080p youtube video and it runs well, although I don't see any benefit since the display is only 1366x768
