I also like that you can choose whether changing your EV, will affect ambient exposure only, or ambient and flash exposure. (Exp.comp.set on the A100/A700/A850/A900).

With Canon it is the latter and you have no choice. With Nikon it is the former and you have no choice. On Alphas without this option it is the latter... and it is the way I prefer it.

If I want my flash EV to go up just a bit, I just roll my EV and it tells the flash too.

Wonka: For that cross-processed look I prefer #2.

kev da man: The onboard flash does interrupt IF you are shooting at the flash sync speed or slower, high ISO, bright apertures and much closer distances. However, in my wireless flash shots, I did not face the problem of onboard flash getting in the shot much at all, most likely due to shooting at further distances.

AlphaBeta: The easiest way to remove the influence of the pop-up flash in Sony wireless is to have some distance. For 'classic' portraiture with a few meters from the subject and lights further away, the pop-up is simply negligible. With the A900 and F20 at ISO400 F5.6 1/200s, and a subject 2 meters away, there is no influence of the F20 on the picture.

So here's an experiment for your D90; turn off the lights and shoot without flash at 1/200s F1.8 ISO1600. Then set your pop-up to WL commander and "--", raise the pop-up (but do not add the SB-900 to the equation) and see if the pop-up contributes any light.

Ha, so the D90's pop-up is not that not-showing-in-the-picture! biggrin.gif

And now the rest of us know LOL.

Dynamic Range Optimizer. You have it in your A200 also but only up to Advanced. Level 5 is only on the A700-A900.

kev da man: Whatchu talkin' about Willis? Advanced is supposed to underexpose to prevent highlights from blowing out. So you should see less highlight clipping!

Seng_Kiat: Make sure Audio Signal is On, and you are NOT in AF-C (in AF-C, beeping is disabled.)

I prefer turning off the beep and using AF-A set to DMF, because you can override focus after locking focus on ANY lens (except the Sony SAM lenses.)

ianho: There is a big, big difference between the A900's 100% 0.74x viewfinder, and that of the 5DMkII and D700. The difference between the A900 and the 98% A850 is not noticeable though.

hanafinoor: You had the Sigma 24-70mm EX DG non-HSM - the HSM one guarantees no gear stripping because it is not screw-driven.

achew: Sweeet!

Head down to Leos Trading, 1st floor, Ampang Park, next to the escalator - they almost always have the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 in Alpha mount.

Gary Friedman hacked his F20 flash to become an IR trigger!

wei_joice: If the Energizer is 2500 mAh then it's not a Low Self Discharge NiMH battery. I had those, they were pretty reliable (but of course, they would go nearly flat after a week.)

For paid events I always, always carry unopened alkaline AA batteries for backup.

lildaredevil906: Do not use the Sensorklear Lenspen until you have tried the blower and it didn't work. Most of the time, the blower will work, and is much, much safer.

Here's a Carl Zeiss 135mm F1.8 in stealth and paintball-protected mode!

The DxO Mark is simple, if you take the time to read and understand it.

For example, their ISO Sensitivity is tied to color, dynamic range and signal to noise ratio. So if a camera seems to be really good at high ISO, but it loses color vibrance, it loses marks for that! It also bypasses the JPG engine. So you can see that the sensors are closer than you think once you get into RAW.

The Maybank thing is sweet! Imagine if the A850 was already in stock at the retail price of RM6999, 20% off that would be:

RM5599.20!

countdracula: The heptagons are normal. The out-of-focus highlights are only circular wide open (F1.4) and supposedly if a lens has 'circular aperture' it will be round until 2 stops below. Which is F2.8. So is your new lens the Minolta 50mm F1.4 (Original), which does not have circular aperture blades?

signither: The FDA-ME1AM was launched together with the A230/A330/A380. Congratulations anyway!

SHOfrE3zE: Does the drumset get in the way of your workstation? (Or that is just for the purpose of the picture?)

Ksano: There are only 3 Sony Styles in the Klang Valley:

Sony Style KLCC
Sony Style Berjaya Times Square
Sony Style The Curve

The others are Sony Centres, owned by dealers. The Sony Centre in Midvalley for example is owned by Foto Shangrila (you can find it on the signboard.)

So the Sony Centres do not know of this promotion because they don't have it (and Sony Centres can give cheaper than retail price if you ask.)

Ksano: No, the angle of view of the 50mm on APS-C is different from on the A850/A900.

50mm on FF takes not-wide and not-tele pictures. Just nice if you want to carry only one lens.

50mm on APS-C takes slightly telephoto portraits, equivalent to 50mm * 1.5 = 75mm on FF.

No dSLR manufacturer specifies their focal lengths to include the full-frame equivalent. Olympus for example has a 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 which is like a 18-63mm F3.5-5.6 on APS-C which is like a full-frame 28-84mm F3.5-5.6.

There is no official announcement from Sony.

I would not panic over something DCM says - they have published the Sony A200 price as RM2999! (It was never ever at that price, even retail.)

Seng_Kiat: DT lenses can be used on a FF body. However there will be a black circle around the picture.

On the A850/A900 it will detect Sony DT lenses and activate APS-C mode so you don't capture this black circle in pictures. For non-Sony APS-C lenses you need to activate it manually. Also, you cannot deactivate APS-C mode for Sony DT lenses unless you use M mode and press the lens release button (so it does not detect the lens.)

Come for tomorrow's TT to get a good idea of this!

Ksano: Yes, the Minolta 50mm F1.7 and Sony 50mm F1.8 DT will have the same angle of view on APS-C.

Seng_Kiat: DRO Level 5 can do that! Or you can shoot at a certain time where the sky and foreground are balanced.

Or, just avoid the sky altogether:

Seng_Kiat: DRO Level 5, only when at ISO200 or ISO100, and in bright daylight.

Do try EV +1 with DRO Level 5... it has a very different effect on the shadows, and less noise also.

lildaredevil906: Cool idea - how to avoid overexposed swans? Shoot black swans instead LOL.

ianho, then I am nicely surprised!

countdracula: Yep - the Minolta 70-210mm F4 "beercan" has stayed at a classic price of around RM800-1100. That was how much it was when it came out, 20 years ago! The Minolta 50mm F1.4 and Sony 50mm F1.4 both sell for RM800 second-hand.

nickilala: Yes it is - bokeh is great, color and sharpness too. It's also relatively light.

Braynumb: The lenses that reach 300mm without APO, tend to be really bad at 300mm. The beercan is only 210mm and still sharp there.
