Most people are confused between "English Subtitles" & "English Closed Caption" (CC)... even more when some R1 dvd labeled Subtitle as Captions. All I knew about CC is that it displays captions of a dialogue and non-dialogue part of a movie (usually meant for deaf or hearing-impaired viewers) and can only be viewable if your TV (not dvd player) has the CC decoder. And most Asian tv set sold those days don't have this decoder built in their tv sets. An "English Caption" (now widely known as English SDH) on the other hand, is the same thing and share the same purpose with CC, but easily access from the menu or from the dvd remote and you don't need a decoder in your tv to view it. And of course, there's plain "Subtitle" which only displays the dialogue part of the program.

10 years ago, I bought The World Is Not Enough R1 dvd and it didn't have any English subtitle    but did feature CC which I can't use!?! Luckily, I can only view the closed caption if I play the dvd through my PC's dvd player
