QUOTE(anfieldude @ Sep 15 2009, 09:14 AM) fathil, Muchos Gracias bro! LCDs require some form of frame interpolation due to the nature of their refresh rates. As such, frame/motion interpolation is normally there in all LCDs. Sony's motionflow is their way of doing frame interpolation. The algorithms usually due a lot more processing to try to maintain a smooth image on screen. Most algorithms analyze the frames, say 1,2 and insert frames in between them and refresh them on the screen. Seems easy, but in most implementations they introduce artifacting. The problem with most implementations are that it gives the film a more video like feel, because there is so much manipulation of the film to begin with. I would advise to turn all off when viewing 24fps content, unless u feel u like the look of video compared to film. As you would have noticed, most plasmas do not mention frame interpolation due to the nature of plasma refresh. However, most plasmas still have do it on 24fps material. Panasonic plasmas take the 24fps repeat every frame and refresh at 48fps. The higher end Panny plasma & Samsung plasmas I believe refresh at 96fps and Pioneer plasmas refresh it at 72Hz. This is to reduce the judder effect of panning shots. However, the implementation of this can still be flawed. One example is Pannys implementation is not as good as the rest. Projectors use frame interpolation and frame duplication depending on the projector company. I believe for those viewing BD material, having a display that can properly display 24fps is critical. Whenever, a display cannot do that and does pulldown to display at 60Hz, it is a real mess! The aim of frame interpolation/motion interpolation is to give the viewer a better smoother feel to the movie. Hope this helps. You advised to turn off interpolation feature when viewing 24fps content. Does that function button on the tv or BDP/PS3? And how do you determine the movie/content is 24fps... is it like comparing feature film & documentary? |

And how do you determine the movie/content is 24fps... is it like comparing feature film & documentary? My BD player always display the 24p whenever the movie starts. Almost all theatrical movies were shot at 24 fps. Some documentaries were shot at 24 fps as well, Planet Earth is one example. |

So, you are saying that this interpolation (video look) only affects the 100/200Hz LCDTV and not the normal 1080p or HD-ready LCDTV? My BD player always display the 24p whenever the movie starts. Almost all theatrical movies were shot at 24 fps. Some documentaries were shot at 24 fps as well, Planet Earth is one example. Another question: Does this interpolation exist when watching a dvd movie using the same LCDTV too? Thanks for any response, appreciate it bro! |

Seems like its lossless if it is DTS-HD MA. Prices are pretty good, especially for the Bolt...3 disc edition I suppose? The Kingdom of Heaven & Blot have dtsHD. I can't play that format as im having an older avr .. Madagascar2 has dolby true HD, untouchables only dd & dts. Untouchables is lossy but thats just how it is anywhere. If it is same PQ and AQ specs as the US pressings, then why worry where it is pressed. Maybe Malaysian BD prices will drop from now. |

QUOTE(moomoos @ Sep 15 2009, 03:05 PM) some mention about the "white bar-coded" sticker( think its imprinted ) to differentiate the US release ones Yup, I said that hehe... but not all release though, only majority. The other is to check the white sticker on top of the casing, if got then it's US pressing. If you bother to identify the covers... usually HK (Asia) cover differs slightly to US (eg. Die Hard 4) and some totally different picture & layout. The most important is the content; like supplementaries & audio format availability. Picture (video) you can't check though... |
