The sugar after taste is most probably from the artificial sweeteners. I suspect it's the caffeine thingy (maybe CarbSlame or whey, but not very likely).
Caffeine is damn bitter, I think they load up the artificial sweetener a bit high to mask the bitterness. Artificial sweeteners can adhere to your tongue longer and cause prolonged sweet sensation. Check the label for articial sweeteners like Acesulfame-K, saccharine, etc...
