Hi guys,

I'm looking for a 12" sub. I'm open to any brand but needs expert advise on which brand. I like a sub that's good for movies and also nimble enough for music. A sub that conveys the "omphh" feeling but not the puffing sound. Any ideas?

Budget? Without budget how to recommend?

few months back I auditioned spl 1200 ultra with svs pc12+ at htkaki house
overall, pc12+ performed better than spl
what say u on pc13 ultra leh?

13-Ultra will easily 'squashed' the SPL1200Ultra like an ant Maybe you should get DD-15 to do a comparison. Then again, DD-15 already breached 5 digit mark .

and probably will eat it as breakfast
maybe when u get ur pc-13ultra u can invite forummers which have DD to do another round of showdown

With 1 ported & 1 sealed, it is not very meaningful. Their characteristics are different, like comparing apples & pears.

The PC/PB-12 should compare with CHT-Q series. The SPL series should compare with the SB-12, then can....

hmm... sealed is better ? tighter & solid?

Sub design bro. Bass reflex vs infinite baffle. Last time when I was into ICE I upgraded from ported to sealed and never looked back. But I have to say sealed box makes your amp work much harder.

CHT-Q series is not sealed? I've never seen any open port on it?
isn't that the gap too big to compare with PC/PB-12?

Yup CHT-Q is ported. It doesn't have a big round hole like SVS, but rather uses a slot (less obvious).

Added on August 13, 2009, 2:20 pmPorted subs have output coming from 2 places, the driver and the port. The mixture of these two is what causes the bass to be less tight. Of course with proper port design this can be minimized. Sealed subs have output from the driver only, and also because it is sealed the backpressure helps to control the driver motion better. Obviously this is just a nutshell description, the in depth technical reasons are beyond me too.
