Haiz, anyway I voted MX5021, it has highest price among three of them, and GMX2.1 is already discontinued, barely can find in market.

u like bass, and overall sound quality. klipsches cant go wrong. from promedia 2.1, gmx and ifi. their 2.1 is always top notch in price offered.

but u cant find them anyway. so let say its discontinued forever. really sad but that's the case. assume they're not even born.

so anyway, logitech Z2300, Altec MX5021 and Edifier S530D might be good pick. for the altec, again, the old one are better than the new one. same as klipsch, assume the good old MX5021 is gone.

if u said regardless of price, visit some shops and try listen to Edifier S530D or S730D depending on your room size. logitech z cinema is having good reviews as well.

hiss sound whenever you turn on the main switch, quite noticeable at close range.
turn off by wired remote won't stop the hiss but okay when you play some sound
the GMX satelite is adjustable up down left right

don't worry about internet say the downgraded quality, it just lose to it's old batch.
other speaker set with same price range still hard to compete (talk about Klipsch Altec etc..)

yes, i do own the gmx before (actually got it from forumer). i also posted a picture between old and new gmx. not really a performance degradation i'd say. cause not alot of parts replaced. for MX5021, there are significant degradation because of missing of some parts.

hissing is audible whenever the speaker is turned on. even though you turned the remote (volume switch) to minimum / off, there will be hissing. but i consider it as alright, though i find it little disturbing because i slept next to my computer table. small room.

however, since i got my klipsch gmx 2nd hand, as well as i only used it for a month, (i sold it off immediately after i finish watching prison break that time). so i dont really know GMX performance in long-term. all i can say, its bass is quite deep, boomy, midrange ok, tweeter sharp. good for small room only.

if, by any chance u can get new unit, trust me it even beats all i heard in price range in sg, edifier s530, altec mx5021 fx6021, creative t3.
400 is even better. before klipsch gmx disappear in sg (many wtb new gmx in forums) the last new price was 280, which is about 600.

haha. its better to avoid the GMX then. well, not sure, last time when i dont know klipsch i thought what the hell is this brand... after getting GMX, my mind changes. after further upgrade to klipsch i-fi, even better, i like klipsch more.

the issue im afraid is that some said klipsch are prone to failure. myself havnt experience it yet. so i decided to go to logitech forums as well. to my surprise, many z5500 user also complaint. so it means, generally, klipsch is not that bad.

as for the MX5021, i listened to both at the same place in sg, sim lim square, same day, same hour. they're at the 5th and 6th floor. the old one is on the 5th. it's because im looking for a speaker, basically that time i have no speaker left, and i got alot of prison break dvds. so i decided to get the forumer' gmx real quickly, and sold it off once i finished watching. lol

nono, the material degradation, u can see on the picture above. im the one that post the picture that shows the inner crossover of MX5021.
beside, the quality of the subwoofer cone itself is different. after listening to GMX, its much better than MX5021 in my ear. especially with i-fi now. its significantly better than any 2.1 speaker i've ever heard today.

anyway, since u said u like bass, GMX will be actually a good choice. based on my preference though.
but for me personally i used to fancy MX5021 when it first revealed. now, i dont even recommend it. as for Z2300, sorry but havnt heard yet.

But if want to get GMX also hard, unless display unit, lol.

yes definitely, ifi is much better than the old promedia 2.1, which already pawns mx5021 and gmx big time. the price alone is evident... it has wide soundstage and very very rich midrange. unlike found in typical 2.1 speakers. but of course, it has less sharp tweeter. but trust me it makes good sound with this characteristic. i tried upping some high frequency bar to make it sharper, but it'd sound weird and less musical. now i know why klipsch design it that way. as for the bass, if you;re really keen in the ifi. it is not boomy at all. it is very deep, much deeper than GMX and vibrate alot. the very first day i setup the ifi i receive numerous complaints, while blasting with gmx never trigger any complain, at all. last word, ifi not for small room.

anyway not sure can find ifi or not... some of my friends also looking for this speaker. im quite lucky to got it from ebay. i didnt regret a single cent of it. u also can always google for reviews. generally some people have different taste, but those reviews should help u image what is the speaker gonna sound. but i strongly encourage u to listen to it before buying. many ppl has different taste.

no problem... u see, from my prediction, klipsch will no longer export more units to be sold over here... since their base is at US. they have to create new transformer if they want to export. and they dont see the market here is growing as well. i'd say it is really discontinued...

hence, even now i'd like to recommend a gmx to my friends and cousin, none of them could acquire it either. im sure, if one of my friend found it, he will surely bought it... after listening to my speaker as an example.

as for the MX5021... even though it has been cut-cost... the term forumer say it., it still sounds okay. what makes me dont recommend them is the price. since i find gmx is cheap in msia, considering 600 in sg converted, MX5021 should go cheaper imo.

logitech Z4 has only 4inch driver in bandpass configuration, with 8" passive cone replacing the port.

well yes, but i find the MX5021 look more interesting with its glossy paint... the good thing about the GMX is that it uses slot port model, like the ifi. so it reduces port flutter, although it's more audible in gmx than ifi. still, its better than having ordinary round port. for MX5021, it uses square port if not wrong...

well, i suggest you take a look at my youtube video i posted above. in timeframe 3:25 u will see the slot port. gmx use the similar slot port.

basically, most computer subwoofer have "tuned" port, so called like a strengthening pipe, to strengthen the resonance inside the subwoofer box. by using different types, length, shape of ports, different characteristic of sound can be achieved.

the difference in sound doesnt depend on the shape, but depends on the engineering of the speaker itself. at least, using slot port is a harder way to tune subwoofer rather than round port.

that is why, i guess, klipsch promedia gmx have a price close to Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX, which has superior amp, also 'fee' for THX imprint. the reason beside the modeling is because the port design too.

however the gmx still have noisy flutter sound despite the slot port. i still can hear alot of air sound in moderate volume. well cant expect too much, i find it much better than old MX5021 already.

for the MX5021 vs Z2300, its ur decision to make. depends on your usage.

from the picture above, at the bottom of the klipsch it has long wide hole right... it is the slot port...

compare to the logitech z2300, which has round hole at the side.

well, vote doesnt mean anything though, it has to do with preference of voters... i remember when i vote its 0 for gmx. lol yes, as what others said, gmx is difficult to find... that's why some is desperate for it...

well yes, soundcard is very important also, but i dont have fancy soundcard at the moment. used to plug in x-fi xtreme audio to my ifi and after my mobo breakdowns, im back to internal soundcard since the new mobo have blocked PCI slot from my graphic card fan.

anyway even from x-fi xtreme audio to onboard (realtek) there are noticable difference. the difference are not big if im using my old 2.1 speaker, but when using ifi many things are changed. in my case, i buy soundcard that cost about half of the speaker price.

just like for cars, i say speaker are the rims, and the soundcard are the tyres. they work together. in order to get good result, both must be good.

for your case, i recommend getting soundcard for the gmx or even z2300 or mx5021.

Hmmm... What other gd SC that is compatible with Mac. Planning to upgrade from Asus Xonar U1 soon.

the difference for my case, x-fi xtreme audio, cheapest here, is that the sound will more more full. means the bass go deeper, the treble go sharper and the midbass go more wide. not that much though. depends on how good your SC is. my SC is a cheap one so its like that. but noticable enough.

im trying to sell my old pci xfi and get pcie x-fi so i can get better sound from my speakers at desktop.

for external card, not really much option. i rather onboard for laptop. im also using laptop now. because i dont like mess and i need the mobility of a laptop. so hooking up to a external is not so good. if u want, there are ExpressCard and USB soundcard.
anyway chingwooi means soundcard la, not speaker.

haha for any multimedia speakers, it will be okay to use with ipod i think... for my klispch ifi, well it is made for ipod, i just snug ipod at the dock and start listening. haha, no problem at all. tv i think also the same... tried before for a while... doesnt cause any harm i think.

mp3, it will be okay, they dont have soundcard, and they already performs bad.. if u want good sound, it doesnt start with mp3 player in the first place... at least it will be original CD playing in expensive CD player... much superior to compressed mp3.

not pro la... im really beginner. it just co-incidence that i can answer some of your question, because in the past i used to have the same question as well. hahaha from using entry computer speakers like people here, and upgrade upgrade... there are alot more pros here, just see other threads... they have better overall system than me, more knowledge and even they dont listen to MP3s like me. those pros listen to FLAC, which is uncompressed. usually sourced from original cd. 

AL quality is downgrading now.. so far i hardly find shop selling klipsch gmx... only one shop here in kuching.. but its left demo unit only.. sadly... if want power go for z2300.. dont go for AL.. if want better sound quality its surely klipsch.. z2300 lack of tweeter so the sound not very satisfy..

VS4121 is rosak on its own...

ever since the stupid VS4121 died on it's own... i'm phobia of altec lansing's speakers.. as they are not cheap anyway... sum more the newer model as not as good the old models...
