QUOTE(lord @ Sep 1 2009, 09:07 PM) Tennis is far from an expensive game. Usually your only "big" investment is your racquet. ( you can always pick up great player racquets second hand at a cheaper price) .How much you spend on strings depends on your play style... I think all sports, if you intend to play at a decent level will require some expenditure. QUOTE(praetorian @ Sep 17 2009, 10:23 PM) This is from what I gather, please take with a grain of salt, if you can afford to do some experimenting, I would recommend it, esp with cheap strings say around RM 40 or less. I agree with this. I have been using Luxilon Alu Power Rough for a while now. I string it around 55lbs. It's good for one hitting session only (2 hrs?), then there is a major drop off in performance or it'll just snap....Too expensive to keep restringing. I've also tried out Blackcode, which does not quite reach alu rough's level of performance when freshly strung, but also suffers a massive drop off after 2-4 hours of play... Pro Hurricane seems to last longer when starting at similar tension. So far I find Pro Hurricane a decent compromise ,coz it performs ok ,and takes longer to drop off the tension. It plays well when it drops into the 40's..... I'm testing out a full bed of red code on a kps88. So far, it's been pretty good which is quite surprising actually.... Some people would comment that 45-48 tension is too low, they can generate power, they need control, if you are a FLAT hitter I can certainly understand your point of view, but if you are a topspin hitter, not necessary a Nadal clone, BUT your shots do dip, you will most certainly appreciate low tension rackets, I have only tried this on a 16x19 open string pattern racket. If you have 18x20, you are more than welcome to try, I won't say its harder to impart topspin on a 18x20 racket, but if you have good technique its doable. Yan it answer your question, it all depends on WHAT type of string you are using. Take for example, Luxilon, this is a 1st generation poly that has wowed the ATP, it is without a shadow of a doubt the most popular poly on tour, ATP and WTA, nothing else comes close! PERIOD! Luxilon is the only brand where professionals have to PAY for their string, unlike other brands the brands pay the players to use their product. The current information I have on poly is this: If you are using your scenario: 1) String Luxilon at 45lbs and play, it will play beautifully and you will have the poly effect for a much longer time, hence the strings don't die as fast expression. 2.String Luxion at 55lbs, there is a higher possibility you will be able to take HUGE FRIGGIN CUTS at the ball and it will remain in, you will bewilder your opponents, however this setup WILL NOT LAST long, I have been told depending on your NTRP, some people have reported it lasted for 15 mins, during those 15 mins they played the best tennis of their life, after that 15 mins they noticed huge deterioration of the string performance, balls that were landing 2 inches before the baseline are landing a foot out. Other have noted the strings performance deteriorated after 1 hitting session ie 45 - 55 mins. Again experiment and see what works for you. You can certainly string at 55lbs, but make a note, how you felt you were hitting the ball, ask your hitting partner, was your ball coming at them faster, did the ball feel heavy, etc. Make a mental note, how long did this last, if you get feedback, wai boss, how come your ball not so strong leh..... attribute that to the string, then. On a personal note, I have noticed if your string lower, esp with POLY, your spin is unbelievable, BUT I suspect you MUST have a sound technique. If you cannot maintain a 20-30 ball rally, do not waste your money on this experiment, I also believe stringing lower tension on a racket only works with a STIFF racket, if you are using a flexible racket, again I would not recommend this. Didn't Nawin change to Prince :-O Also didn't know he was a fan of Toalson either! >:-) j/k Damn he change his gear pretty radical.....lost another Wilson kaki to evil Prince He also does great reports on stuff |

QUOTE(Yan @ Sep 24 2009, 11:30 PM) tell me abt it.. said wanna hang up the racket already ... no point playing anymore since kena slammed left right front n back fr battousai... moving to the women's team already .. maybe can still makan battousai's gf..lolx hahaha.....someone customiziing his racquet....hehehe. Anyway, the thing to remember about adding lead tape is:hey viper or anybody got xperience with adding lead weights... i added 4g to my racq. 2g each side of my 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock... felt great.. but when i added another 4g.. making it total 8g.. felt very diff already and not nice. meaning do i need to counter measure it ? coz i read fr forums normally the counter weight thing is for those who add at the 12 o'clock ?? also say i've added 3 and 9 o'clock... can i still add for other combination .. say 12 o'clock for the better sweetspot ? or the 10-2?.. just asking lah .. not kiasu wanna add to all sides..ehe... just curious abt it .. this crimson .. bad influence.. now i bought 2 packs of lead to test test. new thing to test pulak. but i must say since i added 4g onli to the overall weight.. the PDRGT felt so much stable and no more twisting when i hit off centre... but when i added more another 4g.. suddenly get the "twang" twang" sound back ...not sure y some image abt leading up the side of the racq.. i did something like this ... ![]() 1. Sweetspot moves in the direction of the added weight. So if you add weight at 12 o'clock, your sweetspot will move up. 2. Adding weight to anywhere along the hoop will change static weight, swing weight and sweet spot position. 3. Added weight does stabilize the racquet on off centre hits and increase "plow" through. But depending on your strength , it will tire you out faster and slow your racquet head speed down. 4. I think most pro's like to add lead at 12 o'clock. Improves the serve strength as well. Counter balancing is not necessary, but I like to do so if weight is added to 12,2,10,3,9 o'clock position coz i like to keep my head light balance the same or close to it. Only the 6 o'clock position or racquet throat hardly changes the balance and swing weight, so I don't usually bother. 5. You may customize as much as you like by adding weight at all positions, but it's all trial and error. See where you are contacting the ball more when you hit ( look for where the ball fuzz is mainly located) , before deciding where you would like to add the weight. ' I am not sure why adding the extra 4g on top of the previous 4g you added to the pdrgt caused the "twang" sound again. I only got to try hitting it when you added the first 4g and it felt much more stable. Could be it became a little too heavy, making you hit off centre more because your swing hasn't adjusted to the new weight ? Not sure ,bro. |

QUOTE(zdepth @ Sep 25 2009, 10:09 PM) for women.. Rm100 for a tennis racquet is mad expensive... Rm1500 for Gucci, LV, Prada, Chanel wallet? No problem.. straight buy two... LMAO.... hahaha....word!Added on September 25, 2009, 10:39 pm QUOTE(Yan @ Sep 25 2009, 10:08 PM) biasalah .. luckily i managed to sell off my exo3 red finally. another big waste of $$ .. gf don't like it also. but at least angel luvs it. so someone benefited fr it I've come to the realisation that buying a racquet for a woman means you throw all specs out of the window. If it looks good, and feels good....it's all good....hahaha afterall. hey angel wat tension you put on it in the end ? But they save a lot on strings. My gf 2 years same string! Somehow still tightly strung and can play... Added on September 25, 2009, 10:44 pm QUOTE(angel-ice @ Sep 25 2009, 04:39 PM) This post has been edited by Crimson Viper: Sep 25 2009, 10:44 PM |
