Denon's "affordable" blu-ray player DBP-1610 just announced - $499.00.
http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/4969.asp No SACD and DVD-A though, so Oppo is still one-up on that note. |

i'm glad they retained SACD and DVD-A support. i could have done without the 7.1 analogue outs, but wished they had kept the ABT video processing in.
with regards to video processing quality, i'd like to hear if there's any difference between: (1) letting the ABT do the video processing within the player i.e. bdp83 vs (2) "source direct" out via the bdp80 (as a transport) and feed that through the denon 4310's ABT to do video processing. will email SLT on Monday to find out if the hardware hack can be applied to the bdp80 as well. if yes, then i'm sold. i have a copy of Shaolin Soccer dying to be played. lol. |

audio also if u run it thru HDMI/digital out.
Wrote to SLT asking if the hardware mod works on the BDP-80 and what is the SG pricing and stock availability. SLT's reply to me was much in line with what anfieldude posted earlier ... i.e. answers and more next week. there will be no details this week. Damn it! Just when I plunged for the Oppo, Sony announced it's first 3D-capable blu-ray player for US$200. Plays SACD as well.

lol guys. no la .... will keep my Oppo. I like the "source direct" feature of the Oppo.
If Sony can update the player to playback 3D by way of firmware update, then I'm hoping Oppo can as well. Tech-wise, dont know if it's that simple or not. Anyway, I still have my first-gen PS3 that'll play 3D once the firmware update is out. |

Not a fair comparison though. The S-5BD is not a standalone bdp, rather a "all-in-one" box of 5.1 avr + bdp + music streamer. Nonetheless, still overpriced by Denon as always.

There already is an Oppo thread somewhere in here ... but was mainly for the bdp-80. I'm sure the more elite 83 and 83-SE owners wouldnt mind tumpang-ing that thread. check my siggie for the bdp-80 thread.

QUOTE(Boon3 @ May 8 2010, 01:40 PM) No worries, bro. Anyway, it's not my thread ... was started by dirtrun. maybe he should consider changing the title to "official oppo thread" on a side note, there should be a firmware update for the bdp-80 soon. hopefully, it will incorporate the DLNA-streaming. |

according to my other sifu anfieldude, the hardware mod cost approx. S$100. so u can either buy with or without mod from SLT for that price diffence. obviously, my advise would be to go for the mod.
now if only they can come out with a mod to play hd-dvd! lol |

QUOTE(godsgatecity @ May 9 2010, 12:14 AM) You can email Sean of SLT Tech at sales@slttech.com.sg Also, u can check out the BDP-80 thread (refer my signature below for link) which also has contact info of their master dealer Audio Iconic (Patrick). QUOTE(kumario9 @ May 10 2010, 11:36 AM) Guys, The hardware region-free mod will continue to work after firmware update. I can confirm this for the BDP-80, so it should apply equally for the BDP-83. Can double confirm whether Oppo BDP-83 if upgrade latest firmware, is the multi-region mode will erased (if add on multi-region kit hardware)? Release date: May 5, 2010. Category: Latest Official Release Main Version: BDP83-50-0424 Loader Version: BE2710 or BT0410 Sub Version: MCU83-27-0326 link: http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/...83-Support.aspx Then again, I should mention that my hardware mod is the one that came from SLT. Not sure if this is the same as those if you had bought online from other mod sites. anfieldude has a BDP-83. Maybe u shld PM him if you want additional comfort. |
