Guys, my studio 1555 is already with me for 2 years and 2 months now.
I'm thinking of giving it a treatment by clearing out the dust inside the laptop.
I don't have good hands I might spoil the whole thing by doing it on my own.

Do anyone try calling Dell for laptop cleanup? Do they do service like cleaning up the inside of the laptop? My warranty is over I don't mind paying some money but it has be to appropriate of course.

Hi all,

Just wondering for studio 1558 users, when browsing online do you guys ever find that the default resolution makes text, icons and other stuff a little small ?

I don't find it troublesome but I usually need to zoom in for new sites (Firefox then remembers the zoom setting for the next visit).
How do you guys handle this ?

Related information:
Dell Studio 1558
Resolution : 1920 x 1080 (default setting)
Browser : Firefox 5.0

I find the same situation with Chrome, but much less with IE9. Only thing is I like using Firefox smile.gif

I've tried changing the screen resolution but haven't found one that works well sad.gif
Any suggestions ?

Does this suddenly happen to you? OR it happen since you got this notebook? Did you try to set (Firefox) View \ Zoom \ Reset? With resolution 1920x1080 on a 15" screen, the text & icon will look small. Try 1366x768.

Well it's how it has always been on my 1558 laptop since I bought it last September. I didn't mind it at first, but then I realised that the text and icons were a little small when browsing. And I don't have the option for 1366x768. The closest is 1280 x 768 but the display seems a little blurry when I change the settings. Using the View \ Zoom \ Reset function on Firefox just brings things back to the default zoom, which makes everything pretty small.

This is my first time I heard anyone complaint the 1080p screen on Dell Studio notebook. Usually they get use to it. tongue.gif Can you set to 1280x800 or 1600x900 or 1440x900? You can try increased the text size in "Control Panel \ Appearance and Personality \ Make text and other items larger or smaller".

Haha well I'm not complaining really, the display is excellent except for this particular thing.
Anyways what you suggested worked out great ! I'm still using the 1920 x 1080 resolution but with the increased text size setting on the control panel.
Thanks for your help ! thumbup.gif

setting the dpi is nt so nice sometimes, as certain software are nt able to scale correctly.. if u are using chrome, u can goto chrome://settings/fonts and tune ur minimum font size there..

Hi~
I'm now using Dell Studio 1555 with 2X2GB(4GB) DDR2 800mhz Ram memory~
May I ask, can I upgrade it to 2x4GB(8GB)?
I'm found that there are 4GB single stick DDR2 ram selling in market but I worry that my laptop cannot support it~

Hey Guys,

I have the 1537 and want to get some part. Does anyone have a faulty unit they want to sell? It could also be 1555 or other Studio 15 series. Thanks

Hi, need some help from the gurus here

I have been using the Dell studio 1555 for the past 2 years. And today, out of a sudden, my laptop screen isn't working. The fans are running and I can connect to an external monitor to view the contents.

But I just want to know is there any ways to fix this? I'm running on vista home premium. Everything is stock and my warranty is long expired. Help anyone?

Have you cleaned the dust inside the notebook?
What specs you have and the temp during idle/load?

Recommended by a friend@NBR, I found Shin-Etsu G751 thermal compound is better than Arctic MX-4.

(While browsing & checking email. The max temps are after running 3dMark06)
