QUOTE(O-haiyo @ Aug 25 2009, 10:31 PM) Arsenal is really one weird team. Everytime they sold their key player in the summer, they tend to perform well the coming season. They sold Henry and made us work really hard the when the coming season started. And now, they sold Toure and Adebayor, yet doing terricfically well at the moment. Credits to Arsene, he very seldom get it wrong when come to selling the senior players I think. |

QUOTE Manchester United defender Wes Brown has boosted his claims of a recall after coming through a reserve game unscathed. Brown has endured an injury-plagued last 12 months and was restricted to just 13 appearances for the Premier League champions last season. He picked up a thigh injury in pre-season, but returned to make a substitute's appearance against Birmingham City in the opening game of the campaign. United's injury problems also saw Brown start the shock 1-0 defeat at Burnley last week, only for the England international to be replaced in the second half after a sluggish display. The 29-year-old was left out of Saturday's 5-0 win at Wigan, but played almost an hour for the reserves on Monday night against Bolton. With Rio Ferdinand out for at least another three weeks, and Jonny Evans plagued by an ankle complaint, Brown could come into contention for this weekend's visit of Arsenal. If Evans is ruled out of Saturday's clash at Old Trafford, then Brown will vie with John O'Shea to partner the fit-again Nemanja Vidic in the centre of defence. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5513377,00.html |

QUOTE(Martin Tyler's Column For Sky Sports) Has Sir Alex caught the rotation bug? In the opening two Premier League games of the season, he used a total of 18 players. Only four players played all 180 minutes. Another nine players have played 90 minutes or more, and a further five have played less than 90 minutes. Is this the most players used so far? And who has used the least number of players to date? Kev Hill MARTIN SAYS: Manchester United have indeed used the most players so far this season. As you say, they used 18 players in their first two games - and then they used a further two against Wigan, taking the total to 20. If you include the Community Shield, only four players have started all four matches; Ben Foster, Patrice Evra, Jonny Evans and Wayne Rooney. To be fair to Sir Alex Ferguson he has had plenty of injury concerns and hasn't had all of his players available for all of the games and most of the rotation tends to come in midfield where he has a raft of internationals to choose from. However, all those changes makes it even harder in my job to try and work out who will play. But after a week off, I would expect to see what Ferguson regards as his first-choice team at home to Arsenal on Saturday. To answer your other question, you may be surprised that the club to have used the fewest players so far is United's near neighbours, Manchester City. Despite spending all of that money over the summer, Mark Hughes has opted to use just 13 players in their opening two fixtures. Here is a list of how many players each Premier League team used in total in their opening two league fixtures: 18: Man Utd 17: Arsenal, Birmingham, Spurs, Chelsea, Wolves 16: Fulham, Sunderland, Burnley, Stoke, Liverpool, Blackburn, West Ham 15: Hull, Portsmouth, Bolton, Aston Villa 14: Everton, Wigan 13: Man City http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,2...5513147,00.html |

QUOTE(Sheep319 @ Aug 27 2009, 06:01 PM) mabuk ka you? Sry to burst your bubbles, Sheep Out of nowhere Diaby joins in. (well I might be wrong lah) But anyway, the reason why I keep pestering Sneijder to be selected is because he's the kind of person ala Carrick style, except with more technicality. That's my point of view about Sneijder lah. He's versatile, plays left center right (FM punya pasal nih) Set-piece masterclass and all that jizz. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « As for the UCL draw, I think there will be live on Astro CH813: http://www.espnstar.com/tv-listings/region1/day1/ 00:00 00:30 Live UEFA Champions League 2009/10 Group Stage Draw & European Cup Football Awards Rooney gives Fergie a headache QUOTE Stuart Mathieson August 27, 2009 WAYNE Rooney's best start to a campaign for United may provide Sir Alex Ferguson with a tactical dilemma against Arsenal this Saturday. Four goals in four matches, including the Community Shield, have seen the England striker burst from the blocks this term. But Fergie got the measure of Arsene Wenger in the two-legged Champions League semi-final last spring big style when his system destroyed the Gunners. But the success of the blueprint relied upon Rooney in a disciplined wide left role. Though the same tactics were to later leave the 23-year-old isolated and anonymous in the final against Barcelona, there was no doubt it was the key to the last four comprehensive aggregate defeat of the Londoners. But memories of Rome have forced Fergie into a rethink and he's shelved the plan that saw Rooney shift from an out and out centre forward role operating in a link-up with another striker. The Old Trafford manager has reverted to 4-4-2 and Rooney has revelled in the central role with a touch of freedom attached. Rooney has been a previous thorn in Arsenal's side when he wasn't operating out wide. Four goals for the Reds against them, plus another he will argue to this day he shouldn't have had chalked off by the dubious goals committee at the Emirates in November 2007. Sensational And will Wenger ever forget the 16-year-old Everton debutant who ruined a 30-match unbeaten run with a sensational blockbusting long range hit that sailed over David Seaman in October 2002. As effective as Rooney was against the Gunners in the European Cup semis, to a man United fans are delighted those shackles have not been slapped back on the £30m man. Former United defender Gary Pallister is among those happy to see Rooney causing havoc up front again but understands the dilemma the player's attitude puts Fergie in. "From day one Sir Alex will have known full well that the best way to play Wayne Rooney is up front, just off another striker," said Gary. "That's where he is most destructive and dangerous. That's where defenders don't want him to be. He can express himself there and cause untold damage. "But it is fully understandable when you have a young man with his work ethic and attitude that at times you will use him for the good of the team. "A player like Rooney who doesn't spit his dummy out of the pram when he is asked to play away from his favoured position but will do it superbly is a Godsend to a manager. "Wayne won't bang on the manager's door complaining about it. But what he can do and he appears to be doing this season is sending a message to the boss that he cannot afford to move him back wide even temporarily. "He looks like a player who is saying I am going to do so much goal damage that you can't put me back out wide. "When Wayne Rooney is in that mood then defenders had better watch out. He won't give anyone any peace and quiet. "He rats around defenders, biting at them and that's the last thing you want at the back. He's got great annoyance value! Frightening "I cannot think of anyone I played against or with who comes close to the player Wayne is. It is quite frightening to think of what he can do and he is still only 23. "He is about four or five years off his peak and if he keeps progressing the way he is then he can achieve anything." Cristiano Ronaldo's exit to Real Madrid has cleared a path for Rooney to become United's number one asset and danger man. He has grasped the nettle with relish and Pallister believes Ronaldo's world crown could be his for the taking. "Wayne is the type of player who needs a challenge and Ronaldo going has given him a new one," added Gary. "He'll have seen Cristiano become World Player of the Year and, though I don't think he is the type who says `look at me I am a superstar,' I believe that title might be one he thinks he is capable of achieving. "I wouldn't bet against him doing it one day. He has got the stage, he has got the hunger and desire and he certainly has the ability in his locker to achieve it. "It looks like he will now get his more favoured position for most of the season and with that I think he will certainly score more than 20 goals and is capable of the 25 to 30 bracket. "He contributed to Arsenal's downfall in the Champions League in that disciplined role but they certainly won't be looking forward to facing him on Saturday in the role and mood he is in." http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/spo...rgie_a_headache This post has been edited by alien2003: Aug 27 2009, 07:12 PM |

QUOTE Thursday's gossip column Manchester United are set to sign Empoli's Italian duo Manuel Pucciarelli and Alberto Masacci. (Daily Telegraph) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/g...ers/8223754.stm United in double Italian deal talks QUOTE Manchester United, 16:44, August 26, 2009 United are in advanced talks to sign Italian teenagers Alberto Masacci and Manuel Pucciarelli from Empoli. Masacci, 16, is a midfielder who has been tracked by United scouts for a while and arrives, like Federico Macheda and Giuseppe Rossi before him, via a loophole which prevents Italian youngsters signing for clubs in their homeland before their 16th birthday. Striker Pucciarelli, 18, would be a surprise capture because he had already signed professional terms with the Serie B club. United are also ready to announce the signing of 16-year-old defender Michele Fornasier from Fiorentina to further bolster the Italian flavour in the Old Trafford youth set-up. http://www.clubcall.com/manchester-united/...lks-938142.html |

QUOTE(Wan @ Aug 27 2009, 10:59 PM) Park is more than a backup I think. First half of the Chelsea game, he was fantastic. Valencia wouldn't be able to do what he did in that game. But then Park wouldn't be able to do what Valencia does best, get to the byline and whip crosses. Park=Great inside, crap outside, Valencia=Great outside, crap inside.. merge please. Valencia did tried to come inside few times against Wigan IIRC but still not very effective yet. More training for him I guess |

Hargreaves closer to returning
QUOTE As expected Rio Ferdinand and Edwin van der Sar miss Arsenal's OT visit on Saturday, but United are boosted by news that Owen Hargreaves returns to the club on 23 September. The midfielder hasn't played for a year, during which time he's had operations on both knees to solve his tendonitis problems, so that return date is not his playing comeback. He's been doing rehabilitation work in America this summer and United first must assess at what stage he is at in terms of his recovery. Nevertheless, Sir Alex says his impending return is "a great addition to us". "We're in dialogue all the time with Owen and the physio who's conducting his rehabilitation in America," the boss said on Friday. "He'll come with Owen for a week for the change-over so we can jointly understand the treatment and rehabilitation he's been doing. That's straightforward. "The difficulty is getting him back into football work. I say difficult because we've not seen him all this time. We're relying on information we get from the States. We're certain that his fitness work will be good, we just have to guage the right time to bring him into football training. You don't have a player out for a year and then just throw him straight into the fire. "The important thing is to get him back playing to his level, which is a very good level, because he'll be a great addition to us." In the short-term, only Rio and Edwin miss out on Saturday's tea-time clash with Arsenal. "Everyone else is OK," said Sir Alex. "Although Rafael is still long term." Rio said this week that he expects to return for the Tottenham game on 12 September, but Sir Alex added: "We think it'll be longer than that. We think it'll be the week after that." http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=...&newsid=6638568 Evans set for surgery QUOTE Jonny Evans is ready to go under the surgeon's knife in a bid to cure a troublesome ankle injury. The Manchester United defender has been struggling since picking up the injury at the back end of last year and has been playing through the pain barrier. Evans has been happy to cover for the injured Rio Ferdinand and will continue to do so until his team-mate returns to action. It is thought Evans could go in for surgery when he returns from international duty in early September, which would rule him out of the Manchester derby towards the back end of the month. Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington is keen to have the player for upcoming World Cup qualifiers but insists Evans must do what he feels right. "It's completely Jonny's call. I'm not going to get into a battle with Sir Alex," Worthington said. "The heath of the player must come first. Jonny rang me to say that he may need an operation but he wants to try and battle through until after the internationals." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5519195,00.html This post has been edited by alien2003: Aug 28 2009, 06:57 PM |

Fabregas to miss Manchester United clash
QUOTE * Premier League 5/2 Arsenal beat Man Utd Free £10 Paddy Power Bet * Paddy Power 9/1 Arshavin 1st goal Free £10 Paddy Power Bet * By Declan Taylor Cesc Fabregas’ hamstring injury will keep him out of Saturday’s clash with Manchester United. The captain was replaced at half-time of last weekend’s 4-1 victory against Portsmouth and missed the Champions League victory over Celtic on Wednesday. In an interview with Arsenal TV Online yesterday, Arsène Wenger rated Fabregas as “50:50” for the match at Old Trafford. However, at Friday’s pre-match press conference, the manager ruled him out. “Fabregas is out and his test was not conclusive this morning,” the manager confirmed. “Therefore he will not travel. “Ideally you want him to travel and to play but he would not be 100 per cent. “Everybody else who played on Wednesday is ok.” [Friday, August 28, 2009] http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/f...er-united-clash So Denilson + Diaby + Song for them? |

Tireless Fletcher 'outstanding'
QUOTE Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson praised Darren Fletcher’s inspirational display during United’s enthralling 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Scottish midfielder covered every blade of grass, blocked passes and shots with just about every part of his anatomy and was at the foundation of most of United’s moves attacking moves. Fletcher’s performances this season, and last, point to a maturing player reaching his footballing peak. Still underrated by some outside Old Trafford, United fans know the Scot’s value and regularly showed their appreciation at his every lung-bursting run. Surprisingly, Sky gave the Man of the Match award to Rooney, who Sir Alex thinks will gladly hand over the bottle of champagne. “I think Wayne will give it to him!” the manager said with a smile. “Darren was the outstanding performer on the field. He really was outstanding. He always does well on these big occasions because he’s a big-game player.” Rooney added: “I’ve said many times, forwards score goals and tend to get the man of the match award,” said Wayne. “But Fletch was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch.” http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=...&newsid=6638654 Rooney is spot on QUOTE Wayne Rooney smashed home a penalty to spark a second-half comeback against Arsenal, and says he'll now take the role of permanent spot-kick taker. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer meant the job was up for grabs, and after Michael Carrick’s missed penalty at Burnley, Rooney has now put his hand up. “Nobody really knew who our penalty taker was [after Ronaldo left],” he said. “We got one against Burnley and unfortunately Michael missed. Since that I’ve said that I want to take penalties and thankfully I scored today.” Rooney was influential during United’s second-half fight-back after Andrei Arshavin had given Arsenal a first-half lead. He admits the Reds needed to up the performance levels after a fruitless first 45 minutes. “I thought we were much better in the second half," he said. "Arsenal had a bit of possession but I didn’t think they really hurt us apart from the goal. We knew we had to come out and play better in the second half and we did. “Our record against the big teams last season wasn’t great. Arsenal have started the season well and we’ve already lost once, so we really needed the win. It’s great that we’ve got it.” http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=...&newsid=6638656 Sir Alex: We had to dig deep QUOTE Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to see his side “dig deep” and turnaround Arsenal’s 1-0 half time lead to clinch an important victory. United went behind to a fine strike from Andrei Arshavin at the end of the first half, but the Reds stepped it up a gear after the break. “We like to win, and win by playing well," said Sir Alex. "Both are important. I think we did that in the second half and deserved to win based on that performance.” The Reds boss spoke specifically about last season’s disappointing record against the league's elite sides. That has to change this season, he said. And his players didn't let him down. “When you are 1-0 down at half time it’s an uphill task against a team of the capabilities of Arsenal. We had to dig deep,” he said. “This result can make a difference and the players will gather momentum from this win. “Last season we dropped four points to Arsenal and six against Liverpool. We were a bit unlucky there, but you have to correct these things. Already we’ve made a better start this season in that respect.” After a week of controversy around diving, Sir Alex feels that referee Mike Dean got two important calls right on the day. Darren Fletcher’s challenge on Arshavin in the first half was, the boss says, strong but fair. While Manuel Almunia’s foul on Wayne Rooney that led to a spot-kick for United was also correct. “The penalty was a clear penalty,” he said. “With Darren Fletcher’s challenge, he got the ball. The referee was ten yards away and called it right. It was a committed challenge by Darren. If he was a fraction out it would have been a penalty, but I think it was the right decision, no doubt about it.” http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=...&newsid=6638657 |

There IS indeed contact from Almunia so that's NOT a dive by Rooney. You can say maybe Rooney is looking for the penalty since by moving the ball away from Almunia, any contact from Almunia himself could easily result in conceding a penalty which was the case yesterday.
