Hello guys, Pardon me for being noob but i have posted this question on Subwoofer thread, but nobody answer it. I need to ask a few question regarding subwoofer as i'm still new in this HT business. I just bought Sony STR-KSL5 receiver to pair with my ps3. the thing is, i bought it from ebay and it only has 2 front speaker, no surround speaker, centre speaker and subwoofer. SO i'm gonna need to find a suitable subwoofer to pair with my receiver.i've downloaded the manual and it says i will need an active subwoofer. i've check from the manual and the connection from sub to receiver is mono cable.
1- can i use my old PC subwoofer to pair with my receiver by using 3.5mm jack to RCA converter? I know i can't use the pc speaker as the impedance of the speaker is 4 Ohm while the impedance for speaker on my receiver is 8 ohm. On the manual, it stated that for Output -line (subwoofer) the impedance is 1KOhm and the power consumption is 110 Watt.
2- Is there any general rule for the subwoofer? i've try to understand what you guys talking about but honestly, you guys are too advance for me to understand.
Actually, i'm trying to refrain myself from buying sub because currently i'm in UK and i don't want to add more item as it would increase the shipping cost. I only got one month left before going back to malaysia. But suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks
Need help with my receiver, Sony receiver
