Hello all!

This is my first time here. Been a member for quite sometime but rarely visits the forum. Usually I get my information form avsforum but this time I think lowyat forum would be a better place to ask for help since I'm Malaysian. thumbup.gif

My current HT system is:

Receiver: Denon AVR2309
FR: Canton Vento 890DC
C:Canton Vento 856
Surround : JBL E10
Sub: SVS PC12-Plus
Display: Sanyo PLV-Z4

Currently I'm located in Germany and will be moving back to Malaysia in a couple months time. The HT room in Malaysia will be narrow, around 9 feet wide. Based on what I have read on avsforum, such a narrow room is not suitable for a direct radiating surround speaker, plus the JBL E10 is rear ported speaker, makes it even more unsuitable for such a narrow room.

My option right now is to buy Axiom QS8 or QS4. They go for €401 and €318 respectively direct from the website. Can I get a better bipole surround speaker for that price (RM2000, can stretch to maybe RM2500) by waiting to buy in Malaysia?

From your existing setup, you seems to have a pretty good setup, what is your budget like for the surround, just curious?

I would if there is a bipole surround from Canton. As you can read from my OP, the width of the room is only about 8-9 feet, I'm not exactly sure of the exact measurement. The couch itself is almost as wide as the room. Based from what I have read from the gurus at avsform, there is no way a direct radiating/monopole speaker would sound good as a surround if it is located directly above the listener's head. They say I would need a bipole or a dipole speaker to disperse the sound

Here's a quote by Paul Scarpelli at avsforum
QUOTE
I've chimed in on the dipole debate before, and here's my spiel again. If your room is smallish and/or acoustically dead and/or you have multiple seats, dipoles tend to work better, with an even but compromised listening window. If you have a larger and/or more live room with less seating, or seating away from the surround speakers, direct-radiating surrounds can be better. If you are a sad, lonely, pathetic little man who sits in his solitary, cushy theater chair, five identical direct-radiating speakers, equidistant from your ears, can provide an absolutely holographic movie experience, allowing you to momentarily forget that you are lonely and unliked, with no friends.

I've already updated my OP regarding the budget, hopefully I can get a pair form RM2000 but can push to RM3000 if it's really necessary. The room dimension will be 9 x 19 x 7.5 (w x l x h in feet). At least that's I what I can recall.

My option right now, if I were to buy right now in Germany are these two bipole surround speaker from Axiom. Haven't decided yet which one.

Axiom QS8 €401 per pair
Axiom QS4 €318 per pair

I found a couple other bipole surround speaker from other company but they do not ship to Germany and I wonder if there are available in Malaysia?

Intimus 4BP $199.00ea.
Emotive ERD-1 $299 per pair

If there are no bipole surround speakers available within my budget in Malaysia, I will probably just buy the QS8. Any help regarding the availability and price of bipole surround speaker in Malaysia will be greatly appreciated.

Since there is no respond regarding my question about the availability of bipole surround speaker is Malaysia, I went ahead and ordered 3 QS4 from Axiom factory outlet.

Initially I wanted to order a pair of QS8 but for a little bit more money I could get 3 QS4 so I decided to go the QS4 route. My room is not that large to begin with and now I could use the extra QS4 for the back surround.

The delivery time for the factory outlet QS4 is 4 weeks, that is why I decided to order it now so that I will have time to test the speaker and exchange it if there is anything wrong with it before I'll go back to Malaysia.

Does anyone know any forum for HT enthusiast in Malaysia besides this one?

Welcome to the Axiom club....the community is getting bigger in M'sia now....
the QS8 is on my mind now but still no budget yet and the ORB Audio's Mod1 is doing fine as my surround currently.

Great choice on the QS4 (although QS8 might sound fuller tongue.gif).

Emotiva does ship to M'sia and Germany but you need to drop them a e-mail to inquire on the shipping cost. Myself aiming for a power amp from them too.
