Please recommend me the best value 5.1 AVR (Max budget is RM2000) and using mostly on movie that with AC3 or DTS sound and if can future proof HD sound available as option. Plan to used a Jamo Speaker 5.1 and not yet decide what sub to used yet.

1.Although 1909 is 7.1ch avr,it doesn't mean that u must setup 7.1 speaker but u can setup 5.1,2.1 or 2 channel will be fine.
2.What type of speaker that u r gonna use for this 5.1 setup ? Bookshelf or floorstand or satelite ? R u gonna setup in yr room or hall ? What r the decible speaker that u gonna use for this 5.1 ?
As you can refer previous that Ronn had ask u about yr budget and he is offering u his Canton sub which are veri popular in Germany since 1997.Better grab from him if i were u but however i oredi had 2 sub liao.
Hope this will help u.
Cheers.

careful yamaha a bit overated with the claimed power output. even rxv3900 rated at 140w per channel can only output 100w per channel when running 5 channel. not to say the low end rxv465. imho denon is a better choice.

Is it 1909 still available in the market today?

Why Denon sounds slower that Marantz in same wattage rate?
Denon 1910 has 90w power but a bit slower that Marantz 80w power

Pioneer AVR819VSX or even 919 fits your budget nicely...and its two very very capable receiver...but with 2k, i dun think you can get an AVR & sub at the same time.

btw, can contact CT Seong for price

even the same wattage receivers, like both 80watts per channel, Denon receiver have to struggle the volume at 0db to gain same loudness as Marantz at volume -10db

because marantz is very honest with their power rating smile.gif

[attachmentid=1462591]

for example sr6003 power rating is 100w per channel and when all channel fully utilized the power comes very close as claimed thumbup.gif

Why not take Denon AVR1610, it handles 5 channel speakers, featutes HDMI connection and has HD sound system, and Audyssey setup. It costs RM1,800.
Power rating is 75 watts per channel, i think this is not suitable for open spaces, ideally for small & medium room at easy listening volume

I don't remember the shop I visited in One Utama because I was just passing through, and all items there were very expensive as compared to my regular shops. But for AVR1909 I re-checked at Desa HT Low Yat, it was priced at RM3,500 too, same price for Marantz of its similar spec.

If you often visit Hifi shops you will find price changes every time you see them, especially Denon, sometime it drops too much after one year.

Hi, guys.
I just bought Jamo S606 HCS3 speaker and it sound great.

Need a bit help here.
Why there is no sound output when i select DVD 5.1 DTS option?
Is it bcoz i'm using the RCA cable for connecting sound from DVD to AV receiver?
Need to use coaxial cable or what's the problem?

when you select pure digital dts audio, you need a digital coaxial cable or optical cable or HDMI cable to output the compressed bitstream audio from DVD to AVR, and let the AVR to decode and process the DTS audio.

it depends on the player. generally you'll hear better sound quality with pure digital output.

Hi sifus,
I can feel that something is missing with my current Jamo S606 5 speaker setup during watching movies.
Is kind of lacking of bass (Umph......) as i havent buy a subwoofer yet.
Actually the front speaker have a pair of 8" passive woofer but i think not enough power.
Now searching for a subwoofer. Thinking of getting a Jamo sub 300.
Any comments on this subwoofer? or any recommendation which cost < 2k which is balance for music & movies?

Balance sub is hard to come by at that price range. Most of the sub at this range are ported, which leans toward movie. So, it is kind of boomy w/o good pace. A safer bet is to get a sealed sub like Epos ELS, Wharfy SW250, or REL. Then again, it exceeds your budget. Or try to look for 2nd unit. That should be below RM2K.

So, if i connect coaxial or optical then do i need to take out RCA analog connection?
Can both coaxial or RCA can remain connected? or either 1 is permitted only?

And can i use the astro cable to make DIY the coaxial cable?

Depends on your source...but I can say 99% of the time, I'm sure there is a setting in the menu to choose between Digital and Analog.

Actually for the cables, funny thing is Coaxial is more susceptible to interference from other cables, thats why coaxial cables are mostly shielded.
You can actually DIY one thats using a single shielding RG6 cable at less that RM20...but you need to have a soldering iron.
Astro cable is RG59.....but actually, RG6 is the standard...but because Malaysian like to low cost..thats why RG59 is more popular.
To read more abt RG6 Vs RG59 just google it. Price difference is not much.

Anyway, if you dun want to go through all that mess, then just use a RCA cable and route the cables avoiding other cables to minimize interference.
Best is the Yellow connector instead of Red or white.

Yes, i know we can choose if the source got DD & DTS.

So, is correct la that both RCA & coaxial cable can be connect at the same thing la.

U mean i can use the yellow RCA cable to plug in the coaxial output of DVD to receiver input?
If yes, i'll try it out after get back from work.

When playing MP3, what source will it be? tru RCA analog only, right?

Yup, both can connect to the Amp.

When i mean yellow RCA cable doesn't mean the cheap RM2 type..at least in the price of RM30 above....why yellow is because it is suppose to be better insulated and so call 75ohm. Normally, when you see that the yellow is has a slightly bigger wires.

Use the yellow one as a Coaxial cable.
But you can always DIY a proper one at less the price...provided you have access to a soldering Iron.

If you insist of paying nothing and use any RCA cable laying around make sure it is the shortest length and route the cables away from others.

Try with the normal RCA cable to test the Dolby digital.
Eventhough is normal RCA connection, the sound improved a lot compare to normal analog sound.
Except from getting louder output, the dialogue is getting clearer, more details sound is head and bass output also improve.
Next will going to DIY the coaxial cable.

Where can i get the RCA connector nearby subang, puchong or kota kemuning area?
