whats the diffrence between a rm10 wheel and a silent spinner that easily cost more than rm30 ++ ?
*
the difference: undisturbed sleep

hamsters are nocturnal, thus being very active at night. the cheap ones can get really noisy as the wheel and stub rubs against each other. It can be temporary fixed by applying cooking oil (safer then machine oil if consumed) on the stub before inserting it into the wheel. be sure to wipe off excess oil as the hamsters will lick them.

cheaper alternatives is to put the hamsters far away from your bedroom.

best get those acrylic/pixie glass enclosed containers. I tried with wire cage once and I got bedding all over the carpet as the hamster dug around.
the hamster will be restless from the start of the journey because of non familiar environment and also because of the moving car, but will soon tire out and rest, so no worries.
keep the hamster under shed at all times, preferably at the foot well of the front passenger. Like Snoopie said, never under the hot sun.

My hamster is bored. Anyone got suggestions on what i can do to enrichen her cage without risking escape?

The tank is the standard fish tank sort.

used toilet roll laugh.gif

makes good sleeping place (for small hamsters), provided it's not chewed into bits.

I've let two fully grown hamsters (who have never met each other) mix and play for a few hours, a pearl winter white and an unknown black dwarf twice the size of the WW. they got along just fine. no biting, no running around chasing each other. there's lots of sniffing around and they eventually cuddle up together at the corner of the pen.
It was just a social visit for the hamsters when I bring my WW to my gf's place for the holidays. I guess some hamsters are exceptionally friendly.

please help...my hamster eat so few...and didnt drink water 1.......i very worried of them...i just bought few day day from sunway pet shop...and the hamster type are pied...i saw the pet shop give them eat oat as their meal...do i need to get the same ??? cause i bought hamster food for them...help me please...

hi serene,
for starters, get a variety of food, like sunflower seed, oats, those bulk packed green pellets and even alfalfa grass. experiment around and see if your hamster is eating again.

you should also check its cheek pouch. if there's food in it, then there's nothing much to worry about.

also, hamsters that live solitary tend to eat less and doesn't scramble for food when you put food into their bowl. especially for my family of winter whites. younger hamsters, especially when they live in a group of 3 or more will rush for food and compete with one another. they will also stuff their cheek pouch full of food.

drinking habits differ from one hamster to another. some drink more some drink less. what you should be worried about is excessive drinking which could be a sign of a diabetic hamster. they should be perfectly fine with normal water bottles. but I use this: http://www.petshack.com.my/webshaper/store...ProductItem=531 for my brood. easier access for a group of hamsters living together.

Assorted food and hay. kuaci works best.
my older winter white hamsters tend to outgrow hay and alfalfa.

No offence but the green balls and kuaci are unhealthy for hamster, if i were u, i would get vitakraft or prestige instead
*
i know, they are junk food.
i don't give them much of those, only occasionally. it's just cheaper to buy in bulk then small packets.

hi everyone,

one of my hammy front left finger swell only 1 finger, i notice it today only , she is quite active syrian hammy, and according to my wife this few day she a bit quiet. i'm a bit worried about her
*
it could be the start of warts.
user posted image

or it could be just an inflamed finger from an injury. I can't be too sure because none of my hamsters are ever sick before.

yo, i need to ask....this question is from my little bro, " when ( bila ) I want to clean the cage and usually what you usually clean with? "

Hope you guys know  smile.gif

normal kitchen detergent works just fine. make sure that you rinse it properly with lots of water.
then wipe it dry before putting fresh bedding. the cage has to be dry, and not damp.
