Hello guys, dropping in to inform a sad news..

Min Min was put to sleep on the 7th of July 2010. The vet said she had organ failure and stuff. She was really losing the fight.

I accepted the fate, but my dad can't really accept that we've only had her for 1 year....

help me guys..

my hamster just gave birth 4 babies today morning...i'm shock coz she just gave birth 4 babies on 1/8/10...i dunno why this happen coz i don't mix her with the male after the 1st birth...she just share the cage with the 4 babies..now, do I need to take out the 3 weeks old 4 babies from the cage or just let them share the cage with mom and newborn babies??
*
congrats for the new 4 babies, well since they are born without expectation is our responsibility to take care of them too. This my opinion to you >At three weeks, you can separate the babies if you observe any fighting among them but if they seem immature, less developed and not quite independent enough to leave mom just yet, let them stay together until they are four weeks old. When they reach five weeks old, independent and have a healthy development, they can be placed in new homes and play in new surroundings and environment.

Hope this help you out =D thumbup.gif

thanks 4 your advise...but can they place together with the new born babies? currently, there are mom + 4 babies (3 weeks old) + 4 babies (1 day old) in one cage...i afraid the older babies will eat the new born babies etc...
*
oh my, is it possible u keep a close eyes to see hw the situation going to be. if all of them is ok without any fighting going on, then should be ok, but this situation the less disturb to the mum is much better. to be the safe side keep an eye to the situation, if u feel the situation not good, take out the 3 weeks old baby and dont disturb the mum tht feeding the new born.

i have 7 robo now..i wonder why..last time they can stay well in 1 cage..but till sometime..thy will keep fight and hurt each other ..i forced to separate them..mine are same species but dont know why they will keep fight until bleed..got 1 somemore fight until dead...
*
hmm this 1 hardly know the reason behind it, but robo seldom will fight each others, unless u got separate them for quite a while. this do happen to me when i separate 2 male robo for 1 weeks, then when i put them together thy tends to fight each others, so i have to separate them again.

maybe 1 of them is sick, or got some sickness that the animal sense or some smells that confuse them, as robo use smell to identify their pack or each others. if u see they fight each others, separate the robo to prevent death, that the best way to keep each other happy.

sry to hear 1 of your robo die due to fight, as is our owner responsible to prevent such incident happen. hope this help icon_rolleyes.gif

no direct sunlight is much better if not ur hamster will get heat stroke, and a good ventilation surrounding in the room is much prefer unless u want the hamster aroma . biggrin.gif

Im also gettin scare to hold him bcuz scare terbunyi anything sound that might shock him and next he will jump away from my hand. doh.gif
*
before carrying any hamster with ur hand, try to put ur hand or stay close to them for like 10min, so thy familiar with ur scent and wont be scare when u attempt to hold them for a while. do it once a day so they can be more familiar to u, well basically hamster is a small cute little thing, with our size so big, thy also will feel scare too.

hi guys.my frd jz gave a a few weeks old baby hamster.....need ur guys hlp to identify wat species is it,i tried identifying using pic frm 1st page but nd u guys to confirm it

[attachmentid=1789146]

gonna get a wheel for him soon.....one active fella, keep running around  doh.gif

and tht water dispenser thing over thr....it make the hamster's fur a bit wet evrythg whn he goes over it,will it bring any harm?

i have a food cup in the the cage as well....but evrytime when he start digging around the bedding some of it will fly into the food cup...scare they will mistaken it as food  sweat.gif

do i need to feed it some fresh food also other than the mixture food i bought?
*
The breed that your friend pass to you is called ROBOROVSKI hamster , i also own 4 of them at 2 different cages. Just buy a silent wheel as during the night thy are always active. With the wheel thy will be a happy hamster running around to burn their calories ^^

Regarding the water dispenser, no worry about that. if thy feel wet thy will clean them self up. it wont bring any harm , mine love to go near the water dispenser and play with it sometimes.

food cup in the cage if mix with bedding , is a common thing will happen with robo owner. They wont mistaken that bedding material as food, as they have a greater scent of food. =D

fresh food can occasionally introduce to the robo hamster for their food. Read more info on the 1st page of thread, as there are certain food you can feed and cant feed.

For fresh food, introduce a small portion . If too much will harm the hamster to cause diarrhea.

Hope my reply help u up ^^ feel free to ask anything if you are unsure. icon_rolleyes.gif

wooo where is the aquarium shop that selling rm2 per piece. tht really cheap compare to out side shop. Petsmore or pet wonderland sure is expensive, as their rental place also a costly place. ^^ can wait for them to restock the tunnel and others hamster stuff too.. Share with us where is this shop location , so that every1 can have a better place to shop for their hammy rclxms.gif

hey guys i'm new here. I have a pair of syrians but they do very well together , and fight occasionally (small fights) .  I'm thinking of buying another WW and rear seperately.

One thing to confess, i've had a few hamsters before which passed away in a few months time. Only until i get this pair of syrians i realised that hamsters arent meant to be bathed as told by the shop owner. Man i wished i've known about this much earlier.

I hope i can learn more from u guys around here.
*
Hi david, welcome to the hamster thread. congrates of owning a syrians hamster. Sadly to hear your hamster that pass aways due to your own flaws. But no worry ,now you know that hamster doesn't need to bath, as they know how to clean their own self .

To make sure ur hamster fur stay shinny or reduce any oil , purchase a hamster bath sand. They will love it with the sand provided. ^^ any pet shop that sell hamster do sell this bathing sand, some even come with different flavor to suit your taste too.

Hope you have a happy hammy this time around ^^ cheers thumbup.gif , syrian hamster have to take cautions, as they are not socialized with others , even their own breed, if come across any fighting pls do separate them into others cage to ensure they wont fight till death.

so how do i prepare them the fresh food? do i need to seperate or jz mix them with the grains?

and from 1st page
can't really understand dis sentence?mind goin in more detail? smile.gif

how do i noe wheter its too much or too little for my hamter?
*
haha actually alot of info can be found through google, you can search slowly . for fresh food i always feed them separately . as sometime they cant finish ill just throw the left over. this is much more hygiene rather let the food rot there. sometime hamster will bring the fresh food to their house also, so keep an eye if there is any left over too.

i prefer non sweet food, that is low in glucose level for each fresh food, if want feed them some, can feed a little portion not too much, as sweet food will lead to diabetes for hamster too. ^^

JXplod, thanks for replying.

I used to have a pair of red eye campbells.

Now I am planning to keep hamster again. But am torn between robo & winter white... sad.gif Is it ok to keep 2 male robo together? Is it harder to handle robo compare to WW? Cos I have a young niece at home and I hope she can handle it without getting both of them hurt.

Thank you!
*
Oh a young niece at home, sure is a good chance to show the young generation to care for animal and provide some love towards living creature. thumbup.gif

Through my experience , reading and gathering info, for young children at home. Roboski wont be that suitable, as their temperament roboski hamster dont like to be hold , as they tend to try to get out as soon as possible. So it will be hard for kids to play with them. Even my roboski i seldom hold them too unless some suspicious bump to check it out a while, just a quick 1min hold and they struggle like mad to get out of you. ><"

Roboski hamster is the faster running hamster among others breed. They are the most socialized among their own breed compare to other hamster too. As long 2 males that you purchase from the same breeder in a cage where they grew up , wont post any fighting. Unless 1 of the male show some sickness or any disorder that will cause the attack.

While for WW will be much suitable for kids to handle them , as ww won tend to try to run away as hard as possible when you hold them. WW hamster need to tame them a while, like put some food on your palm and they will try to get it . repeat the procedure as long you see the WW hamster stay calm on your palm , and can play with them d.=D For kids to handle WW i would strongly suggest adult supervision, who knows the hamster panic and accidentally jump out of your niece hand too. Unless the kids know hw to handle the hamster well.

The hamster roller ball come in handy if you want to play with them, as you can put them in the ball and let them roll or running around the house compound =D damn cute seeing them doing this act haha. thumbup.gif

Pai sei abit lengthy my explanation hope this can help u out ^^
