@acam2812...........its been mention many times already that bathing hamster is bad....as hamster is desert animal(for syrian la, ww i not sure) & by naturally they dont bath. bathing is require only for special condition, such as got fleas, fur got something stuck etc....hamster usually clean their self is more than enough. & if u bath also plz use hamster shampoo since its special for hamster. it is possible that bathing them = stress = tired = they sleep, thats why u think they are restless when didnt bath them. u can look through this forum or google about why its not recommended to bath a hamster.

& yeah winter white do change colour, only for some not all. its up to them if they want to change or not, we cant force them.

erm.. they are still small .. not sure how many month old

so best is to seperate them ya? hmm.gif
*
its better to separate if u feel its hard to monitor them & if u scared they will fight. they might not fight when young but after the grow older if they get along then its good but if they start fighting then there might be a problem. i saw a few people mix syrian hamster since young & when they grow they get along well so it depends, each hamster got their own personality, but syrain hamster its common that they live alone la.

anyways usually main reason they fight is food or for territory so just make sure u got more than enough food & place for them to sleep, eat, play etc. also syrian hamster will grow quite big when adult, almost half the size of winter white/robo so just make sure their cage is big enough. good thing about them is they are easier to tame tongue.gif

well, thinking off getting one only, still in love with it. Especially when i saw those beautiful hamster at pet shop. Only now, i cannot rare them because my Child still young. I have to be sure they will not put their fingers into the cage, or else will in hot soup by giving the hamster to bite.

You have how many of them?
I think during these day i will try to smuggle my hamster into a box and keep it at a corner!! same as what i had done during my early days as a small boy....!!  tongue.gif
*
ooo i c....hahaha well syrian hamster dont bite much tho so ur child wont get bite if they put their finger in the cage, unless they take it out & disturb. my syrian hamster found a way to open the cage door by climbing on top & pushing the door. so i use a wire mesh & tie the door bar with the cage & twist it...so now if want to open have to twist it back....maybe u can do the same thing so that ur child wont be able to open it...hahaha

& i got 1 male syrian. mum dont let to keep many so yeah....hahaha its fun when they walk over my hands even up to my neck laugh.gif

Happy Chinese New Year hamster lovers!! =D

Omg..its been ages since i last posted anything here..hahaha..hope everyone is doing well and all your hamsters are very healthy too!! =D

Just some updates..My Syrian BeiBei is doing great!! Living alone is definitely her thing as she loves all the food she gets for herself and all the living space she gets in her triple storey cage..LOL..1 of my 3 Roborovski BiBies have passed away after giving birth to 5 babies..then the father took care of them for 3 days before he and my other female hamster cannibalised them..leaving nothing behind..sad story there..but good news is that my other female, which gave birth to 5 babies last year have now given birth to another 4 babies 3 days ago.. =D Her other 5 babies are now fully grown and are ready to be given out for adoption but im feeling very reluctant as i've kept them since they were babies..3 boys and 2 girls..i have since separated the boys with the daddy in one cage and the daughters with the mum in another..the daughters are now helping the mum take care of the new babies.. =D They're all very beautiful and i love them loads..LOL..i might have to get a new cage next time to separate the males as i cant let them stay with the current ones..so i might have 4 cages next time!! LOL..my parents are gonna kill me.. =P

Have a nice day everyone!! =D
*
wow the other hamster helps the mum to take care of the new babies? cool....i never knew that, i always thought only the mum will take care of her young & the rest will either disturb or hurt or just dont bother to disturb. never knew they will help.... thats cool.... biggrin.gif

how many of you fed your hamster live mealworms & how many fed the dead processed ones for hamsters (usually in packets for rm10).

coz the other day i wanted to buy mealworms for my hamster, went to the shop but they was out of stock so the guy told to get the dead ones. but i thought fresh was better then he say dont fed the alive ones coz we dont know what those suppliers are fedding to the worms might not be healthy for your hamster unless u know what the worms eats.

btw he said there is two types, 1 is superworm & the other one is small in size....which one do you guys fed to your hamster?

can hamster eat cat food ahh??... recently i adopted an old syrian... but i didnt have any hamster food around... i got some cat food, so i gave him eat anyway...

but after few days i see he kinda like didnt touch the cat food... just now i fed him with mealworm, he damn happy... lolz....

mayb i'll just keep him rather den feeding him to the snake...
*
i never heard of fedding cat food, so i got no idea. but i did heard of dog biscuits & monkey biscuit (if i m not mistaken). anyways if u want to fed him but u got no hamster food at the moment, u can fed a little fruits such as apple or veg such as carrot or broccoli. but not so much veg & fruit just very little amount per week. & if u got sunflower seeds or almond u can give him that a lot for temporary while u go out to buy hamster food. incase u got no experience in keeping hamster, just make sure his bowl contain food coz they eat little but frequently. & sleeps alot, so maybe every 1hr they will wake up to eat. oh ya u can give him plain peanuts also, not the salty ones.

well thats all the household food i can think of atm, but yeah its better if u can go & buy hamster food & give him coz he needs a balance diet & the food i mention above is high in fats but temporary will be fine la. better than starving. btw dont give him as your snake food, syrain hamster hairs are a lot could cause your snake stomach problems (snakes usually eat pinky rats, unless the really big ones) & syrain hamster are really aggressive when they fight so if your snake going to eat him, he will fight back for sure & will injure your snake.

Been monitoring daily... no blood... maybe they groom each other or is their sign of kissing each other ???  hmm.gif

Also they do poo a lot after eating live meal worms  rclxub.gif  big black poo-poo.....

Also they start eating the green thingy from Vitakraft when I don't give them any refill  tongue.gif

Weird thing is they stuff in a lof of food in their pouch then throw it out some where in the cage... not sure is it hiding or dont want to eat  cry.gif
*
poo i guess is normal....even mine poop while eating... laugh.gif

& yeah they will eat anything if no food is given tongue.gif

& also its normal to stuff all the food in the pouch & later keep it in a connor, mine hides his food in the tubes doh.gif every 1-2days i open & put back in the bowl & clean the tube.... shakehead.gif

rclxms.gif  Gratz on the new babies... so tiny they all... ww ? Really can't imagine if its Robo the size must be like pea size  shocking.gif

Did she eat alot lately? --> not really... her pouch is not as big as the male, dont stuff in much...
Did she gain weight alot too? --> still same size even though I gave her meal worms...
Did she behave aggressively towards her mate or you? --> Nope...
Is she making nest? --> might be, she push the beddings towards the house and form it like a mount... inside the house she dug holes like bird nest...

Also her waist is still same size, no plump  sweat.gif
*
my hamster when it rains he will do the same thing, push the beddings into the house & make it comfortable & sleep. maybe your hamster is doing that too coz feeling cold? maybe la...or else then she is pregnant laugh.gif

but now i try to fed my syrian hamster he dont want to eat, he smell it then move his head....they dont eat those for reptiles ah? sad.gif i guess i wasted...now dont know what to do with it....hahaha

u think he dont eat coz of the smell or is it coz he just dont like mealworms? rclxub.gif

hmm just wondering.. if there is any way to "lure" hamster out ?  yesterday bought 3 hamster and i forgot to bring my cage.. so put them withn a plastic lunch box with small hole..
parked my car and went up to my house to pick up something... by the time i back on car... double check the box... left 2 +_+
cant figure out how that one managed to sneak out ...
i placed food on floor and hoping it to come out but.. seems the food is still intact..

i think it wont be able to climb up to my window panel ? so low possiblity...
it wont go to engine part ? so low possiblity also ..

aiks..

hi there new hamster lover rclxms.gif

well the best way i found is using sunflower seeds. try to buy a new fresh in packet, usually cost around rm1-2 biggrin.gif

then i put into a topware & blow inside which contain the sunflower seeds. the smell is strong & the hamster will come out to find it to eat it. well my method works coz i fed him sunflower seed before so maybe he remember the smell coz he love it. anyways there is no harm in trying...maybe it can work...good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

& it will surprise u what hamster can do, one day i let my hamster walk around my room & he end up inside my cupboard doh.gif dont know how da heck he got inside. so maybe u should try to search inside cupboards too hehehe, they like to hide in dark places so check around your house. another good way also is to listen noise, if they are trap they will try to scratch or bite anything to try to escape so try to make a completely silent house & listen if there is any sounds.

there is 1 time when i was playing cod online & he climb on pants till my shoulders shakehead.gif if they got nails they can climb on cotton easily....hahaha amazing creatures tongue.gif

hmm.. not new but .. last time my mum doesnt like the color of Agouti  .. so forced to give it out free to one of the lovers in forum smile.gif
now .. since i am outside... can start to have hamster again .. mana tau ... walau ... cant imagine how "she" can sneak out... i think most likely, it is not in the car anymore... placed the seed yest. night too .. found out it is not been "touiched" at all.. darn

now left 2.... need to separate them .. the male keeps on bullying the female one.. aiks.. need to wash 2 cages instead of 1 T.T
hope after some time, they can mingle around nicely biggrin.gif
*
ohhh.....u lost it in the car is it? u left the door open? if u did then maybe it escape out already, if not maybe hiding somewhere in the car or got stucked somewhere inside. if can u can try to find it midnight. they usually active after 12 or 11pm. anyways if couldnt find then maybe they escape to the wild already. to be franky he wouldnt survive, unless very lucky. dont want to make u sad or anything but just to tell u la biggrin.gif

& both male & female dont get along then its best to separate them unless u want to breed them. good luck thumbup.gif

*
u can give them for adoption in the adoption thread thumbup.gif i see many people adpot hamsters. btw yeah its not good to bread them with bro & sis. & also bear in mind dont bread too many coz later if they fall sick u need to take to vet...(not easy la hamster get sick if u monitor their diet but its still possible)

u new to hamster? just bought it? if u are then its normal, hamster sleep a lot. later night at 12am check it. it will be active.

if u are a long hamster owner then try putting food infront the nose, if he/she didnt eat then maybe its sick. better to bring to vet to check. maybe the hamster got flu? best option is to bring it to a vet. hope your hamster get well soon smile.gif

oh....maybe she got flu? i m not expert in hamster disease but i suggest u to take her to vet, get injection & check up. usually if hamster smell sunflower seed will wake up to eat it...well thats what mine does. plus hamster shouldnt feed cold, they are always warm so better bring to vet, there might be problem. u check & see if got injured or blood anywhere? maybe she fight with the other hamster?

hope u bring her to vet soon & hope she get well soon

Added on February 20, 2011, 9:56 pmbtw if she is cold try to keep her warm....if u going to vet try keep her between ur hands or anywhere that she will be comfortable & warm....

my cousin hamster got eaten by his dog last time so if u leave your hamster outside the dogs might try to open the cage to eat it. i guess they thinks its a rat....
