hi serene,
for starters, get a variety of food, like sunflower seed, oats, those bulk packed green pellets and even alfalfa grass. experiment around and see if your hamster is eating again.

you should also check its cheek pouch. if there's food in it, then there's nothing much to worry about.

also, hamsters that live solitary tend to eat less and doesn't scramble for food when you put food into their bowl. especially for my family of winter whites. younger hamsters, especially when they live in a group of 3 or more will rush for food and compete with one another. they will also stuff their cheek pouch full of food.

drinking habits differ from one hamster to another. some drink more some drink less. what you should be worried about is excessive drinking which could be a sign of a diabetic hamster. they should be perfectly fine with normal water bottles. but I use this: http://www.petshack.com.my/webshaper/store...ProductItem=531 for my brood. easier access for a group of hamsters living together.

Hi Serene,
Don't worry too much about it. Probably trying to suit into new environment.
It's good to give your hamster a healthy mix, variety of food. Hamster food / mix are great, but you also can prepare your own mix.
Since you noticed that the pet shop gave oats as their (only) meal, your hamster might be having trouble adjusting.
It's usually advisable to mix (introduce) new food gradually. So, if you want, you can get some oats to see if there's any improvement in it's eating habits.
Give your hamster some time, I'm very certain it'll "recover" on it's own, since you've provided both food and drinks at it's disposal smile.gif

The hamsters were probably too young to really notice. The male parts only become really visible about 4 weeks of age.

Maybe this could help.

Assorted food and hay. kuaci works best.
my older winter white hamsters tend to outgrow hay and alfalfa.

i know, they are junk food.
i don't give them much of those, only occasionally. it's just cheaper to buy in bulk then small packets.

it could be the start of warts.

or it could be just an inflamed finger from an injury. I can't be too sure because none of my hamsters are ever sick before.

normal kitchen detergent works just fine. make sure that you rinse it properly with lots of water.
then wipe it dry before putting fresh bedding. the cage has to be dry, and not damp.

if smelly then clean it.. or make it a routine like cleaning the bedding once a week.. more hygiene environment.. For me, i use normal hand wash liquid soup to clean the cage and dry it at the sun after cleaning.. biggrin.gif
