PNB Looking At Possibility Of Building 100-storey Skyscraper

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) is looking at the possibility of developing a 100-storey building near Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara here if the project is viable, said group chief executive and president Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman. Speaking after the announcement of dividend and bonus for Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) Monday, he said the board of directors of PNB will study all possibilities before making any decision.

"We have to go through the board of directors first. God willing, we will make an announcement accordingly," he said when asked to comment on news reports that PNB is planning to build a skyscraper in the area.

The report, quoting sources, said construction work on the building was expected to commence in the first quarter of next year. It said the proposal the building had been also submitted to the Ministry of Finance and that it was being studied in detail. This building could rival the highest structure in the country - the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers, completed in 1997 at a cost of US$1.2 billion (RM4.05 billion).

PNB is planning to develop the 72-hectare area surrounding the country's oldest stadiums into a mixed-development project. "The plan to develop the place is ongoing...but, I'm not saying that I confirm whatever figures quoted by the media. What we want to do is to rationalise whatever properties we have, our investments to make sure that we got merit," Hamad Kama Piah said. At end of 2008, PNB was estimated to have some RM120 billion of assets under its management, including its proprietary funds.

hi ppl !
sorry i m a newbie have  noob questions here .
I see these unit trust offered by ASNB , they have like 5-7% return per year , which is more than the FD offered by banks .
Why dun ppl just put thier money in ASNB instead of banks ? just wondering.
And how do u invest in these ? go office and deposit ur money ?

thanks for the info !
*
everyone have their own preference. FD is fixed rate and guaranteed by PIDM, whereas ASNB's products are equity based and has no fixed return plus "not guaranteed" by PIDM or government. Some forumers here do not invest in ASNB products because they do not trust PNB or not confident with the government, how the money being managed and run.

As for how to invest pls check the ASNB website.

PNB May Extend Deadline For Subscribing AS1M Units

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) may extend the period for subscribing the Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS1M) share trust units which has a December 31 deadline. PNB Group Chief Executive and President, Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, said the extension might be given as the allocated quota of units given according to the communities have not been taken up.

So far, 82 per cent of the quota given to the Chinese community has been subscribed, while another 20 per cent quota for Indian investors have been bought, and the units for Bumiputera meanwhile are largely still left. Hamad Kama Piah said this when asked to comment on the latest development in the subscription of AS1M units, here Wednesday.

AS1M, a fixed price fund with a size of RM10 billion units, was launched on July 31 this year by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. It was opened to all Malaysians with an allocation of 50 per cent for Bumiputera, 30 per cent for the Chinese community, 15 per cent for the Indian community and five per cent for others.

Todate, a total of 2.96 billion units of the AS1M have been subscribed by 235,032 investors.
On the proposed multi-development project around the Stadium Negara and Stadium Merdeka, Hamad Kama Piah said the group was in the final stages of making a decision on the project.

PNB Extends Subscription Period For AS1M (for the 3rd time)

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 (Bernama) -- Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) says it will extend the period for subscribing the Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS1M) share trust units to a later date from the current Dec 31, 2009 deadline. PNB Group Chief Executive and President, Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, said the extension, given according to the community allocation, will be third after the Sept 30, and Dec 31, 2009 deadlines.

In a statement on Thursday, he said the decision was taken in order to give all the communities the opportunity and more time to buy the share trust units. Todate, a total of 3.06 billion units of the AS1M have been subscribed by 235,288 investors. So far, 85 per cent of the quota given to the Chinese community has been subscribed, while another 21 per cent of the quota for Indian investors have been bought.

My non- bumi friend told me that she had been buying ASM/W2020 over the past 2 months. Between her family members , they managed to buy about RM0.5 M worth. From what I heard ,one can hardly buy units allocated to  non-bumis after the initial offer period.
If what my friend said is true, there are 2 possibilities here:
1) Some non-bumis are exiting the schemes...reason???...no confidence in the scheme?
2) The un-subscribed bumi quota is released for sale to all races.
Anyone non-bumi tried buying into the scheme lately?
*
Tried to ask the CIMB staff last month end, when i did the transaction, they told me ASW2020/ASM are fully sold. They did not just turn me down by saying so, as i have seen they are checking the computer systems. Wonder how your non bumi friends can do that?????

She knows a few 'very friendly' bank staff who work at the counter...when they are free, they will just buy and contra from her account with the same bank. Some days it's zero, some days, they manage to get a few thousand worth. Yeah, it's quite tedious and someone must be checking the system every now and then to be able to get some units.

it is always good to know someone inside the bank.

Went to CIMB Bank. Was asked how much we'd like to withdraw. The receptionist told us they are running low on cash today, hence withdrawal for ASB has been limited to no more than RM10k per account holder today.

Was kind of surprised to be informed that they are running low on cash considering this is the largest CIMB Bank branch in the whole Sabah  doh.gif
*
why all those BUMI are withdrawing from ASB until cash shortage in the bank (damn Serious) while non bumi are busy depositing in AS1M....quota for chinese in AS1M is > 85% already.

i did take up asb loan 3 years ago using maybank 'fixed amount' standing instruction. cant remember the BLR rate back then, but since the BLR have been reduced, i have been paying more than the required amount.

seems that i cant change the standing instruction to fluctuate according to BLR, but just that my loan tenor might be shortened since i pay more. but if BLR increase, then tenor will be longer. hmm.gif
*
ASB loan is like housing loan, when the BLR fluctuates u still pay the same amount of instalment.

Can somebody advise me...I'm about to receive RM5k bonus..should I invest in unit trust or should I just keep in my ASB?  Which is the better way to go?
*
guess u r a bumiputra, it depends on your risk profile, if u are a conservative preson, throw your money in ASB. Or else invest in Equity Fund or share market.

Neither is it a personal loan nor a housing loan. It is called ASB loan or ASB Financing and it works a bit like house mortgage as well. You can get it at either Maybank, CIMB Bank or RHB Bank.

someone has posted this info b4, u can either trace back the previous thread or check the banks website mentioned by miles and more.

hi there,  so in general, for non-bumi cautious investor and not seeking very high profit like in Unit Trust ('koz can't take too high the risk)...
ASM vs ASW2020 vs AS1M  ... which one is better option ?
*
Easier decision for you. For ASM and ASW2020, non bumiputra quota is book, the only choice for u is AS1M

wider perspective??? probably u can study the annual report of each funds that u mentioned, it is downloadable from ASNB's website.
The report showing what r the historical performance/dividend payout for the last 3 years. and what also what are the shares counters that they invested in, bearing in mind these are equity funds.
