GTA4 is native 630p but is stretched to 720p. Perhaps your TV or AVR can blow it up (aka upscale) it to 1080p. However, the PS3 will output it in 720p only.
I have a 1080p display and PS3 is set to go up to 1080p, but whenever GTA4 is running, the TV receives only 1280 X 720p resolution.
There are some graphical hitches, but it still plays well.
