hi guys, the B&W thing happened again yesterday...i managed to snap a shot using my phone...it may not be as clear, but the best thing i have at that time was my phone...

[attachmentid=1485777]

the effect is quite similar to if u tuned the contrast low and brighten up the brightness level...everything in B&W...and quite simply, switch it off, and on again, and it's ok...

quite puzzled with this...what u guys think i should do? contact Samsung or Desa HT?
*
Looks like a colour space mismatch or HDMI issue? Is it always on the same input? Are other inputs also in B&W when this happens?

I have the same issue with POHD, but mine is Pink and not B&W. I think this is basically a bug from POHD which failed to communicate with certain TV models. So the POHD goes into the lowest resolution mode(or default), which has compatibility issue to display properly with the TV, that is why u may experience low res and colour incompatibility. Other devices such as PS3 & Sony BD Player do not experience this.

POHD's latest firmware did mention it will solve resolution/signal compatibility with certain TV/models, I still wonder if this is the solution for your problem. But I heard this firmware is still buggy, hence I did not update accordingly.

If you wanna confirm, try another device using the same HDMI point and cable and see if you still experience the same B&W. If not, then it is from the POHD, not the TV.

bro,

Call desa first, see what solution they can offer, if they say they can swap a new tv for u then good. if you call directly to samsung, doubt they will change a new set for u, most prolly they will take back ur unit and fix it.

just curious, is it a direct hdmi connection to your tv, or it goes thru ur amp first?

its not only from POHD...i've experienced the same thing from my BD player & Astro as well..so i think it's not a problem with POHD.

i think i might buy myself a new HDMI cable to try first before calling anyone...no spare ones currently...i really am trying to avoid having to take the tv down again sweat.gif

TV HDMI input is from AVR. all my players go through AVR...

Wah daryl.k,
That B&W problem seems quite bad wor. I don't have that problem and I think my set is slightly newer than yours. Now I am starting to get worried. The only prob I have with this tv is the IR. It's quite bad and noticable. Maybe I have not gamed on many plasmas before but I don't think Pannys have this problem.

Is the IR visible during normal viewing or it only can be seen during standby with dark environment?

Not during normal viewing but when I change inputs or channels, it can be seen when the screen blacks out for a short moment. This also happens during the day, but after some time, there is no more IR.

Does anyone know if this tv can play videos via USB connection?

I wonder how much the Samsung Wireless Dongle costs. Must be quite expensive since the wireless only works with their proprietary USB dongle.

I am on the offshore rig right now and the tv room has a 50" Samsung Plasma tv. I brought along my TVix and watch some movies last night. The movie I watch have black bars on top and bottom and halfway thru the movies I can see IR on the plasma already. Once the whole screen darken in night scenes, the IR is very apparent on the screen with the movie portion of the screen appearing grey while the two black bars areas are darker. Even the place where the subtitles appear got IR too.

I own a 50" Panasonic plasma 50S10 at home but i have never seen any IR before. My conclusion is that the Samsung is just too prone to IR. Just sharing my experience.

i am using the series 6 50" plasma fy10 production ~ watch 2 movies about 5 hours in 16:9 resolution with black bar at the top and bottom of the screen.
so far no IR issue as describe, probably it depends on the batch of plasma panel.

just an update on the B&W experience i'm getting on my Samsung display. yes, the phenomenon is still happening from time to time, and i think its getting from bad to worst..

i'm now getting the B&W display, plus square boxes like an empty excel worksheet..all over the display...

but, here's what i notice so far...the B&W thing happens only IF i turn on the AVR before the TV. if i were to turn the TV on before anything else, the display is normal..

so, i'm beginning to feel the problem may not be the display after all...it could be the AVR..being switched on before TV...

maybe u guys can give it a try? if u dun mind...may not happen every time...maybe once every 5-6 try....

as for the IR.....yes, this samsung model is quite prone to IR..and very noticeable even if static image is left on for very very short period of time...but so far, its never permanent...in the beginning i get really phobia scared of IR...but after a few weeks...i know the problem is not permanent...so screw it...but still, i use the scrolling wash whenever possible...after that ok liao...

as for black bars...every 20-30mins i will zoom in the display to 2x, fill up the entire screen for 5-10mins...that was in the beginning...now even a 1.5hrs movie i dun bother...just remember to scroll wash the screen after that...or play a full screen movie after that...it will wash them IR away...

darly, so far it i encounter this phenomenon BW images once only. if i am not mistaken the last previous state when i switch it off, it is in HDMI mode.
Upon TV power on, the images turn B/W images in HDMI mode.

does it happen in HDMI mode or regardless of (Video, Component, TV) mode ?
