Hi all,

My name is Teresa and I'm new to this forum. I've got myself a sugar glider about 1 and a half months ago. He seems to be doing fine. I've done many researches online. :-) Anyway, I'm glad that I found this forum. It is so informative!

Thank you so much!

Cheers~

Hello.. My glider seems to have problems defecating.. I'm quite worried because he never had this issue before. Does anyone have any idea as to what causes gliders to have constipation?

However, I'll be taking my glider (Mochi) to Dr. Jenny either later today or sometime tomorrow because I think his problems with his bowel system is affecting his mood and behaviour. Also, I need to get him his checkup. It'll be his first time!! Hopefully everything turns out fine. :-)

Just to share a story with the rest of you, I had another glider quite a while back. But she was sick and eventually he passed on. Her name was Miko. During the time she was ill, I took her to see Dr. Yeoh at Taman Megah. When I entered his room for consultation, he actually asked me, "What is this animal? This is the first time I'm treating this kind of animal!"

I was not entirely surprised to see his name listed here as a recommended veterinarian for gliders because I was thinking to myself that he might have gone to study a little more about gliders after my visit or after the population of glider owners began to grow in Malaysia, escalating over the past few years. I was just happ to know that now there are glider vets! And I found out from reading this forum.

Plainly said, this forum is just absolutely great! Thanks so much again!!

:-) My glider is a cheeky little boy. I think he has enough water. I can't be too sure but there's always fresh water for him in his cage. I have now resorted to spoon-feeding him water and/or juices until he gets better. He should be about 4 months oop.. I adopted him on the 1st of August this year!

hey hey! Took Mochi to see Dr Jenny for the first time a few days ago and well everything wad fine at first. Dr Jenny said that his poopoo doesn't have any sort of parasites in them which kinda surprised her but I take that as a good sign!! :-) howeve. She did mention that Mochi seems to have thinning hair which I have already kinda noticed myself hence I brought him for a checkup. Dr Jenny said it could be die to excessive grooming which I also have been thinking alike. Dr Jenny told me then that there could be two possible reasons.. (a) stress, or (b) mites!!! Not the kind that lives ON the fur or skin but UNDER the skin!

From my observation, Mochi does not seem to be stressed. So guessing it's mites. Then.... He had to take an injection! Oh the poor little thing! I couldn't bear to watch!

Dr Jenny told me to clean ALL of Mochis' belongings.. Toys, Food holder, Cage, Pouch etc etc and I have done that but I'm still worried for him.

Has anyone here experienced anything of the same? I would like to know what else is there I can do to prevent the mites from reappearing after completing the treatment course (3 injections spreaded evenly over a month and a half, meaning every two weeks once in a month and a half).

Hi everyone! Mochi has been doing well.. He has already taken his second mites jab, next week going for his last jab on the course.

I have a very important question I need to ask all of you SG lovers in regards to neutering male gliders.

Has anyone here have neutered male SG? If yes, here's a list of questions that I would really appreciate you taking your time to answer.. Cause I am in the midst of considering if I should neuter Mochi..

1. When you first neutered your male SG, was he the only SG u had with you?
2. How old did you neuter your SG? Is there a "best" stage of life to neuter?
3. Did your SG behaviour change after neutering? If yes, what changes were there? Did it go away or remained up till today?
4. Were there any other complications when you neutered your SG? (e.g.: healing processes, behavioural changes, appetite changes, etc.)

At the beginning, I intended to keep Mochi as a lone glider for a longer period of time and Dr. Jenny said it'll be good to neuter him because he might one day self mutilate. That totally freaked me out hence now I am thinking of neutering him. I will eventually get Mochi a friend (recommended female SG) which will lessen the chances of him self mutilating but at the same time I don't want to have them mating. I'm afraid I might not be able to care for a breeding pair (what if complications arises during pregnancy, giving birth, etc) and where will the little SG babies will go after OOP? I can't keep so many of them.

So my options are:

a. Neuter Mochi and keep him as a lone glider
b. Neuter Mochi and get him a friend
c. Don't neuter Mochi and get him a friend

What do you think?

Sorry, this message is so long.. But I'll be grateful if someone could help me in this section. Thanks!!!

Hi all again! This morning I let Mochi out of his cage to run around in my room as per usual but today, after running around for awhile he suddenly became very rigid and frantic. He was jumping all over off me when he is still outside his cage but when I return him to his cage he wants to jump on
me and then off me again to the floor. I had to use his cloth to cover him and put him back in the cage but ever since he got back into his cage he still jumps around like he's got a little crazy and he gets frightened by every little sound. The poor boy! That was in the morning before he went to sleep. I went out today and brought him along. During that time he was very normal, like his usual ways when I used to take him around and pat him, etc. Now, he is up again and he is still frantic. What could be wrong? I'm so worried. Has this happened to anyone before? Please help! Thanks.....

P/s: and the thing is, he's not crabbing or barking or anything.. so I can't tell if he is really scared or just a little nuts.. :-(
