Hi everyone & all the sifus out there,

I have been considering keeping suggies but i don't want to rush into it untill i gather enough of information from web & forums.

I really enjoy reading this forum as it is very informative and interesting, indeed it is really an eye opener to the suggies world.

Though i have been considering and tempted in keeping a pair of suggie, but i still have hesitations as i want to make sure i can handle and provide the right environment with lots of tender loving care. I am an animal lover but i know it takes more than that to be a good suggies owner.

I need some advice from all the sifus before i come out with a firm decision. My current situation is like this, I have 5 kids (adopted stray cats) living with me and my fiance in an apartment. I am not sure how would this affect suggies, can someone please advice? Setting up a nice cage and placing them in a safe place with good food is not an issue, but will my cats scare the hell out of suggies?

I also work from 9 - 5, but every Thursday i will be home late, around 10.30pm. I also travel back to home town in Penang once a month by bus. I also understand from this forum that once i am bonded with my suggie, i can also bring suggie to my office. Bringing suggie to the office is not an issue bcoz my boss always emphasize in making our office as our home. I also have 2 betta (fighting fish) in my office. I am in the sales & marketing line, occasionally i will have to visit my clients, which means i have to be out of the office.

Ok i think i should summarize my points and questions as below:
1) Izzit possible to have suggie while i have cats in my house.
2) Once i'm bonded with my suggie, can i bring suggie out when i need to visit client? Will they make noise, etc?
3) I travel back to hometown by bus at least once a month, morning bus back to Penang and 4pm bus back to KL on Sundays (reach KL around 8 - 9 pm). I understand suggie wakes up between evening to midnight, is there any solution for me if i really have to take the 4PM bus back to KL from Penang?
3) Can i bring suggie out with my everyday when im out of my house? (dont want my cats to disturb them)
4) My fiance and housemate are both smoker, i suppose there will be ciggie smell on them and their fingers, how will suggie re-act to it?
5) Occasionally i travel outstations and overseas for work, is there any solution for this? Like boarding, etc?

Sorry for throwing so many questions at once, i just wan to make sure i can cater up to their needs and be a responsible owner. Hey is there any gathering or TT sessions for suggie owners? Though i am not a suggie owner yet, but can i join to gather more info and learn from all the good owners out there?

I thank you in advance and hope that you guys can help me out with some of my questions.

Answers in blue. wink.gif I don't have any sugar gliders yet, but like you, I'm a hopeful parent... And hopefully I didn't give any wrong answers. >< Heh.

Hi Babyvey,

Thank you so much for your information and tips, very happy to find out that there is still a hope for me to actually own suggies! Hey why are you a hopeful parent? What's keeping you from becoming a suggie parent? smile.gif

In my case, i will have to re-arrange my apartment to locate a safe place to house the sugar glider. All my cats are indoor cats and they are let free and not caged. Can i still place the cage in the common area (living room) or i should separate them from my kids? If i put the cage in the living room, i suppose my kids will do no harm but i am worried when suggies come to life at nite and making all sort of talking and noise, my kids will get curious and excited. What they will do is they will probably checking the cage out and jump on the cage or trying to reach them. Though they might not reach them from outside of the cage, but i guess it would scare them or the suggies under tremendous stress. (It sounds like i already know the answer, silly me!) I still have a spare room available where i can place the cage, just that occasionally my parents would come down to KL for short stay, then i will have no choice but to place the cage in the living room.

Oh well, i guess i should continue staying on in the forum to learn more until i get a solution for my future suggies smile.gif

Anyway thanks for your help and hopefully it does not take long for your to fulfill your wish of becoming a sugar glider parent. All the best and take care! thumbup.gif

eric138, babyvey & jitshiong,

Thanks for your sharing and advice, appreciate it a lot smile.gif

Good to know that i can bring suggies back with me to Penang occasionally as i will not have a peace of mind should i leave it with my fiance and housemate. Haha my fiance doesn't know what i have in mind yet, i should test water and see what's his reaction. As i travel overseas for work occasionally and i really have to depend on my fiance to care for my future suggies.

Oh btw, this morning i went to Jln Pasar in KL to buy fishes and some plants for my tank and guess what i saw?? POOR SUGGIES being caged in a small bird cage and for sales at RM250 only! There are total of 10 suggies in 1 small bird cage with nothing fancy for hiding or comfort. God knows for how long they have been living in such condition? Of coz i was once tempted in getting 1 out of sympathy, but i rem the advice from this forum. Gosh my heart cries out for them.....

Oh can some one please advice me on the cost of setting up the cage, a suggie and the food?

CazzyCass: You have to know how many gliders you plan to have in the future and choose the right cage size. But you should go with the 4ft cage. So you will need around Rm600+ for a 4ft cage and a glider. Haven't included wheel and stuff.

Rough calculation of what you will need, of course more to come later on,

Cage Rm300
Glider Rm300
Woodent wheel Rm100
Diet Rm ??

Can browse around pet store section in trade zone. Try looking for jtl's, petshack sales thread, they offers some starter kit and you can estimate your cost.

Hiyii Cottonkandy,

I intend to have 2 in the future...l. The starting up cost isn't cheap as excepted....plus i have 7 kids/cats to feed on premium food (5 staying wt me & 2 with my in laws next door), aiyoyo have to increase income already! Hehehe, this is the price to pay for being an animal lover tongue.gif

Thanks for your info and i am working towards to be a suggie owner!! Cheers
