Greetings fellow lowyatians,

The Eden Handicap Service Centre Berhad, also called EHSC or simply Eden for short, is a charitable non-profit Christian-run organisation. Set up in 1991, its mission is to give the disabled the dignity to lead self-sufficient lives in the sight of God. We provide practical training to the disabled to acquire basic skills to support themselves. Our success in the past thirteen years has been due to the continuous support from the public, churches, government agencies and regular donors.

Regards,
Bernard

Dear Bernard,

It's kind to see so many people are involving in the charity work, I will definitely give my full support in that. But I do have a few doubts and questions need your clarification.

First of all, why is this Eden Handicap service centre registered under Berhad but not organization? Because if it is a pure NGO, should be registered under JKM department but not Berhad which is under Business. Anyhow, it is just to help to make it clear for people to know about the differences. I do not have any misunderstanding with you but for what I've been through, most donors will wish to know more about the NGO they are helping out.

May you list down what sort of PC that you are requesting? It will be easier because some of the donors are only having part of it, so may be you can collect different parts of the PC from different donors, and assemble it by yourself? It will definitely be more effective and easier as some people do upgrade their PC parts by parts, so they can just donate out the old parts only but not the whole set of PC.

Last but not least, may I know more in details about what the Eden is doing for the residents there? Checking it out from website is different from getting the information of the staff in there.

Thank you Bernard, I believe you can help me to clear my doubts soon so we can do more for the people who need our help. I will try to help you outsource the items from Penang as I do know a few NGO from there, may be you can work things out together with the others.

hi there muok and skysherly,

sorry for the very very late reply,

yes, we r a Bhd company. although we r a berhad, we still don't earn a single dime in our organisation. we r a truly a non profit organisation. our task is to help those handicapped person that are in need.

we r not a Jabatan Kebajikan Masyararakat (JKM) organisation becoz we r a non-governmental organisation that's why we register ourselves as a Berhad (Bhd)

NGO = Non-Governmental Organization. smile.gif
It will be necessary to incorporate the organization within its given local government/agency by writing and filing the necessary forms. In most countries, there are specialized departments or officers within local governments that deal with registering an NGO (which may also be called by other different names: non-profit organization, voluntary organization, people's organization, etc.)

Anyway, you have not really answer my questions yet, it will be hard for me to give you a hand too smile.gif

According to my manager, Eden handicap is registered under a ' Bhd ' instead of an organisation becoz we wanna skip all the hassle for being an organisation.

Since we r a ' Bhd ' therefore, we can still carry out businesses to earn ourselves some profit for charity purposes. Eden is a charity company. We r not like those companies where their profits can be earned by their directors and staffs wink.gif In Eden, whatever profit that we earn will be be reverted back to the company for staffs salary, investment for charity and etc

Eden is also not a company that is limited by ' shares ' but we r limited by ' guarantee ' instead.

I believe there are many kind hearted people who are keen to help out given quick, proper and concise information.

I also believe that helping the needy means helping the needy. No questions asked; not expecting anything in return.

Check the website out: Eden Handicap perhaps arrange a time to go there for a visit personally to check it out yourselves if you can.
