QUOTE(ar188 @ Jul 28 2009, 11:08 PM) Panasonic Launches Their New 3D Full HD and 4k-2k Capable HDMI Cables in JapanThe RP-CDHX series, available in various sizes, are Panasonic latest HDMI cables supporting a 10.2Gbps speed and compliant with the future 3D Full HD and support 4K and 2K resolution… Now we just have to wait for a 4k or 2k capable TV and player.
All full HD media, players and TVs and players are 2k resolution. But yes, 4k resolution will need 2160p equipment. Is it always like this? The cable being the first to support new tech?

possibly.. your regular coax and optical digital cable supports more than 10Mmps while usually allowed to carry only CD audio (1.5Mbps) or DD (640kbps) or DTS (784kbps)
Even when SACD/DVD-A came out, there was enough bandwidth in SPDI/F to support it, except the studios didn;t allow due to lack of encryption
