Xeon7222:

AC-3 n DTS are decode by software, eg: power dvd, so S4.1 can play it.

U can add a independent center speaker to S4.1 but it is not recommended, coz it will sound different and the center speaker ONLY works on DVD when the actor is talking.

For me the S4.1 center channel is "really" comes from center. U can really tell when u use the speaker channel test from the soundcard driver.

I'm a satisfy user of S4.1, S4.1 is not only sound good for music, on movie or gaming, it will not lose to R501MKII due to it's higher clarity which means it's sound more realistic. Besides, it's bass also hit harder than R501MKII.

It is not easy to find a speaker that sound similar/better than S4.1 at that price range. (Depends on ur taste)

I hope u can test both speakers urself in the showroom in lowyat.

without changing to subwoofer, u can try out the options below:

1. Change the big capacitor inside the subwoofer to better brand (more important) and/or higher uF.

2. Add sponge to the subwoofer.

3. Subwoofer placement, e.g nearer to the corner of your room wall.

Have a nice try..

but once he do any opition as above, anything happen to the speaker set the warantee gone.(except option number 3)  smile.gif

for the option number 3, nearer to corner will not tighter the bass, it will just increase the bass reflection. (eg too near corner will make the bass become boomy)

just my 2 cent...  cheers  smile.gif

Well, he already mention he really want to mod his speaker.

For other placement, how about put the subwoofer on a carpet?

thanks for da' suggestion.. i already try the woofer placement near to wall but for me the sound become more worst.. smile.gif

to change the capasitor and to add sponge already in my mind but my problem know is after i open te box..i want to seal it back nicely like original and i donno this is possible or not...that day i go to lwyat plaza to test s2.1mkII and also to fine wether there is a shop for speaker modding but the answer is no..
i think i give a wrong suggestion for the subwoofer placement. doh.gif

however, u can try to put the subwoofer on a carpet or block the subwoofer hole with a cloth, some say it can tighter and give cleaner bass.

For the moding, u need to do it yourself. If u are lucky u can find a shop / somebody to do it for u. U can get all the things u need from jalan pasar.

I'm not using the same speaker model, so i can't imagine how much u need to seal your subwoofer after opened. My S4.1 just need to unscrew and screw back the 14 screws. That's all. rclxms.gif
