I did some testing with stereo source (music cd), assuming all cables are connected properly, the subwoofer did have sound.
Does your player has 5.1CH analog output like in this picture?  |

the R501 is really worth the extra RM, for starter bigger sub (most ppl like bigger bass) then wireless remote, R451 don't even have remote.. for R501 MKII it also has 2 extra stereo inputs, so you can connect you cd player or mp3 player straight to the speaker.

cubchai, set around 5-7 at first, let it run at that setting for a week, you don't want to overstress the speaker. After that you can increase the volume to your prefered level.

accs_centre, what's the different between DA2000 and DA5000? The subwoofer part of which model? If the sub is available separately, would be awesome to pair it with S2000, provided it is active.
