Ok I have a problem here. Right now I've conencted the S5.1 to the DVD player internal dolby DTS decoder output. The problem is whenever I play music CD on the DVD player, there's no output from the subwoofer channel and hence no bass/little bass at all. So how do you guys think I should get around this problem ? Is there a configuration whereby it will automatically use the front left and right input channel and automatically filters the bass to the subwoofer channel?

check the connection.. center/subwoofer out from dvd player should connect too.

try adding more bass, on the remote increase Bass level and subwoofer volume..

since your dvd player has internal decoder, check the output setting, some dvd player can downmix sounds to stereo and make sure it's turnoff and subwoofer out is on..

hmm I'll go check again...if I'm not mistaken when I unplug and replug the subwoofer channel there was no difference to the music. That's why i suspect nothing is coming out from the DVD player.

Drian:

music CDs and vcd only have stereo channels, so unless your dvd player can mix the channels you only get 2.0 sounds. and to get 5.1 u need dvd with 5.1 audio.

this is not the speaker's problem, its the dvd player. mind to tell the brand and model?

it's a LG DVD player with integrated Dolby digital decoder. Yah it's only stereo. There's also 3d surround but it sounds suck due to mixing i guess. Lt's assume i have a stereo source and 5.1 speakers. How do you hink i should connect it?The front and subwoofer should at least work.

I did some testing with stereo source (music cd), assuming all cables are connected properly, the subwoofer did have sound.

Does your player has 5.1CH analog output like in this picture?

Yup exactly like that.

have you tried unplug and replug the subwoofer channel to see whether there is difference ? or is it just my DVD player?

Also the bass that you hear might come from the front speaker. I don't think they filter off the low frequency component from the front speaker.
