QUOTE(John91 @ Nov 9 2009, 07:18 PM)
The taller you are the more you can bench generally. From his height and frame I'll say around 110-120kgs..

You seriously 80kg? You look much heavier than that at your height. I'm 80 and around 177cm and I don't think I'm as big as you.
*
John91 - wow correct john91 that's exactly what i bench lol, my bench is shit compared to pedro's .
Taller doesn't mean easier bench, most probably easier deadlift, definitely not bench as taller body = longer arms, the ROM is more than shorter people generally. Unless you are tall and SUPER THICK WITH T-REX ARMS then maybe that's another story.
I am definitely a clean 80 kgs (highest 81kgs), I m still on a ketogenic based diet (protein + fat + a lot of dietary fiber), I m sure my weight will shoot up upon reintroducing carbs

Dan- : I think U are referring to myofibrillar hyperthrophy vs sarcoplasmic hyperthrophy

Florian : Isometrics is pushing the weight (barbell) against an immovable object (the long metal thingy in the power rack) at wherever you are weak at . We are all different, some are naturally stronger than others. I just hit a 120 kgs front squat PR yesterday, not a lot but I m happy as long I m progressing, compete with yourself not others smile.gif

Pedro : How long have u been cutting ?

Diablokun : keep getting stronger smile.gif Patience is virtue, I was really flat chested when I started. I think DB bench as accesory work really helped me a lot (got 100lbs DB x 4) the other day. I hate the bench press honestly. I prefer pullups mmm (BW+45kgs) , do drop by pushmore for some insane pullup reps and strengths biggrin.gif

chest muscles do develop eventho one cannot bench 100 kilos aite ?? as long as one is doing it "hypertrophy"ly...right ???  hmm.gif

you actually have a point there. haha. believe it or not i can only bench around 60kgs max. now. while bulking but partly also due to my long arms and all but i dont think my chest is that small. but yeah, as long you're aim is to overload the muscle progressively, then it should be fine.

Where got shit lol, there is virtually no difference between our bench!

Been cutting for 3 months,from 98kgs to 86 kgs,still need to lose!

Progress is slow because i don't want to lose strength.

Isometric as in contracting against each other? How la to do isometric contraction at elbow? I pop my elbows everyday like how I pop my knuckles. Maybe it's weak because I can hyperextend my elbows.

80 kg is a lot meh? I saw one skinny guy in OHM manage to bench 4 x 45lbs plates = 80kg + bar =100kg. for 8 reps with no difficulty. Also I heard he only started like 5-6 months. I've been training for almost 4 yrs still haven't break the 100kg mark.

Eh btw, 80 is 1st set, after that drop to 70kg.
*
Lower the position in the bench press to the point where you feel its tightness/looseness/weirdness/ and then hold it there for about 10 seconds. You're human, so you can actually "shift" the pressure on the part of your elbow where the pressure is. Repeat this for maybe 4-5 times and then take a break.

Then do it again for another 2 sets or so. I do it for my knees and elbows to ensure my knees and shoulders are healthy.

I still remember doing warm-up sets with 100kgs at age 18.

More accessory work will improve bench pressing, eg; cable rows, DB inclines. Don't get too hard on yourself, on the other hand you need to remain vigilant and have a positive mindset while giving equal amount of effort to your benching as to your squats and deadlift. I face the same problem too, so now I'm addressing it by putting in 2 Upper Body days.
