Try repositioning the drums or put some diffusers/heavy curtains on the walls of the church..

you should look for plexiglass drum shields. all you have to do is to put the shields around your drum set and it'll reduce the noise. here's an article that talks about the same problem you're having. i went to my friend's church performance once and the drums there were enclosed in the shield and it sounded not very loud.

the problem if you have a low ceiling, the sound will bounce off the roof and then even more noise will be made because the rebounded sound will have different timings as compared to the source of the original sound from the drums.

this will cause muddled sounds doh.gif

best case would be to sound proof the walls of your church.
curtains would be a easier and comparatively inexpensive solution.

plexi glass = useless

It doesn't really cut out the echoes. I've tried it at church. The building has a high roof and no curtains. It cuts out the direct sound alot. But the echoes are still as loud as ever.

Curtains and repositioning are probably the best solution for you. Unless you have enough money to invest in those diffuser thingies... Haven't tried them before though
