So far Maradona has proven to be an inferior manager so aside from the fact that they rub shoulders, I can't see the logic behind appointing him. I mean it's good publicity for the club and their fanbase may swell somewhat but without any success, it'll only be temporary.

True so far he has mixed results as a manager with the Argentine team which should have won all their games handily.

It still is. Maradona is touted to be their next manager so I'm guessing it's relevant.

Kranjcar eyes Pompey exit
QUOTE Unhappy winger Niko Kranjcar has confirmed he will leave Portsmouth when his contract expires next summer. The Croatia international has become a key player at Fratton Park in the two seasons he has spent in the Premier League, but is unhappy with the recent decisions to sell off a number of the club's top players. Pompey have sold a number of stars during the past eight months with the likes of Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Lassana Diarra and Glen Johnson all moving on. And with the ownership saga surrounding the south coast club yet to be resolved, an unsettled Kranjcar has confirmed that he is eyeing the exit door at Fratton Park. "For now I am staying, but we have not strengthened like I would have liked us to," said Kranjcar, who has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham in the past. "That's why I will not sign a new contract. It's one more season for me and then I'm off." Distin is also likely to be a City or Liverpool Target |

From the Times Online
QUOTE Bookmakers cut odds on Portsmouth relegation They say the bookies are seldom wrong, which could be bad news for Portsmouth. William Hill last night cut the odds against the troubled Hampshire club being relegated from the Barclays Premier League from 15/8 to 6/4 after hearing whispers that administration was imminent. According to a statement from the bookmaker, “rumours of financial meltdown” at Fratton Park had “swept the world of bookmaking.” “We began to hear stories during the afternoon, suggesting that Portsmouth may be in danger of going into administration, so reacted accordingly by cutting their relegation odds just in case there might be something in it,” Graham Sharp, the William Hill spokesman, said. “The gamble on Portsmouth to go down has been developing all the way through the close season as the much vaunted takeover has failed to take place. At one time they were 6/1 for the drop - but that price is long gone.” Despite reports over the weekend that his proposed takeover of the club was close to collapse – which would make administration almost inevitable - Sulaiman al-Fahim, the chairman, has insisted that he will complete his buyout of Alexandre Gaydamak, the present owner. He intends to be at the club’s opening Premier League match against Fulham at Fratton Park on Saturday, and has given an interview to http://www.arabianbusiness.com , due to appear on Friday, in which he is believed to outline his plans for the club. |

Saudi Tycoon in Shock Portsmouth Takeover! Al-Fahim if you recall was also the frontman for City's takeover by Abu Dhabi Unied Group. QUOTE Owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim revealed he is to sell the majority of his holding to a member of one of Saudi Arabia's richest families. Fahim, speaking to Observer Sport last night, claimed the deal with a consortium led by Ali al-Faraj will be complete this week – perhaps as soon as tomorrow. The takeover by Faraj, who is understood to be 50 years old and have a personal holding in billion-dollar petroleum giant Sabic, potentially signals the end of a traumatic period on the south coast which had left the club's future in serious doubt. On Friday Peter Storrie, the club's chief executive, admitted that at least "30% of the £50m" Fahim promised to raise by the end of the month had to be in place within a fortnight or Portsmouth would face financial meltdown. |

First win of the season. Blue Army wll be on Saudi's payroll. James back in winning action after months of lengthy recuperation from shoulder surgery. Become the first side since 1989 Liverpool avoided relegation after losing their opening 7 games? Will Peter Storrie remain Club CEO? |

QUOTE PORTSMOUTH have been hit with a transfer embargo from the Premier League for failing to pay money owed to other clubs. The embargo means Paul Hart will be unable to bring any new players in to Fratton Park until further notice as he seeks to save the troubled club from relegation. More bad news to come? |

Portsmouth had many opportunity, but they never hold on to it.
they didn't tie up Ben Sahar, sold Glen Johnson.and now nothing left already. I support Pompey very much, but during my stay there, the part I hate when watching the game was the fans.macam gila.. |

QUOTE(A 11 @ Jul 24 2009, 12:56 AM) Diego Maradona's lawyer has claimed the former Argentina midfielder is set to quit his job as coach of the Argentine national side and join Portsmouth as the club's global ambassador. Maradona just got banned by Fifa for his lewd outburst. In a confidential e-mail published in Arabian Business magazine, Angel Oscar Moyano claimed: "He (Maradona) has got top players ready and he is even ready to leave the Argentine national team." Pompey's new owner Sulaiman Al Fahim is apparently close friends with Maradona's cousin Remigio. Diego Maradona is being lined up by Portsmouth for a sensational move to the Premier League. The club’s new owner, Sulaiman Al Fahim, wants Maradona to quit his job as Argentina boss to become Portsmouth’s ‘global ambassador’. Dubai-based billionaire Al Fahim, who this week completed his £60m takeover at Fratton Park, believes Maradona will help attract world superstars to the south coast. Amazingly, the Argentine legend’s lawyer, Angel Oscar Moyano, claims Maradona is interested in becoming part of Al Fahim’s revolution. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/9050...t-to-Pomp-it-up Just imagine Pompey (2008 FA Cup Winner) is also cracking into Top 4. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/i...als/8311013.stm He would be a great ambassador for Portsmouth. No? Who will be the next 'notorious' figure (once Fergie leaves) in the media then? |

Not really agree on that...Avram Grant...talent estimation is quiet good...his signing for Chelsea now start to make impact on the 1st team....you will see the result...unless Maradonna really interrupt in the transfer policy...i dunno about that for sure... |

QUOTE Portsmouth goalkeeper David James says victory in the 2008 FA Cup final set the club on the road to financial ruin. "It has had a terrible effect on the club over arguably the last 18 months," said James, whose side face Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. "Qualifying for Europe was financially and physically damaging for the club." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...uth/8612358.stm Tidbits for today's 2010 FA Cup SF • Cash strapped Pompey are aiming to win the FA Cup for the second time in three seasons. • Pompey could become the sixth club to be relegated and reach the FA Cup final in the same season, and the first since Middlesbrough in 1997. • The winners of this semi-final will receive £900,000 and the losers £450,000, excluding broadcast fees. The winners of the FA Cup will receive another £1,800,000, and the runners-up £900,000. Prediction Spurs 1-2 Pompey!!! |
