You should hear sound in all speakers when you watch dvd with DD or DTS.

Most songs is in stereo (2 channel)
Most movies in DVD are 5.1 but some of them got 2 channel only. Depends on your original source.
If you watch DVD Rip, most of them only 2 channel.

Yes it is normal. You only get sound from 2.1 (Front L/R and Subwoofer) when listening music without applying any DSP.

wait a minute... If your amp has a selector....mostly on the remote...try pressing 'surround' button. Most of the time. 1. If the source is only stereo,if you press the surround button, you will get surround. Its called 'Dolby Pro Logic 2'. 2. If you source has a 5.1 surround, it will display Dolby Digital or DTS. Dolby Pro Logic II provides five channels of surround processing from any stereo source. The one speaker that is fully optimized in the center speaker. So, in 'Surround' mode, the center will most of the time be operative. This post has been edited by azbro: Jul 23 2009, 10:57 PM

depends on the source, even in action movies, only very small portions of the movie will have the rear channels engaged.
For me I don't like Prologic II as it kinda makes the sound murky.
