Guys, I just got my brother in Singapore to get me a unit of this media player in Carrefour, at the price of SGD237 (after a 5% from the orginal price of SGD249). At the conversion rate of RM2.4 to SGD1, it is slightly less than RM570. I will hook it up to my 1 TB WD MyBook loaded with MKV's for a start. I intend to stick in a 1 TB drive. What would be your recommendation?

Wokay, I will post a little FR next week, based on my collection of MKV files when I get it over the weekend. Eventually, I hope to have it play BD-ISO from my friend's collection, so I really hope that this player can handle it. I will be displaying it on my Panny 50V80H which I bought from Htkaki.

I checked many places in KL, but sumua tarak. One google for it in Spore and I got several hits. Infact, when I called up the first shop in Spore (Media Mart), they said they got it and selling for SGD229. I called my bro and he said he already bought it in Carrefour for nett SGD237. I wonder why no incoming stocks in KL but there seems to be plenty in Spore.
Horny, It's stated that this player will handle HD DTS MA in the next firmware upgrade this month, although I won't be enjoying it. I am going to hook it up to my old Pioneer DTS AV-AMP nia.

Go google for it in the shops in Spore. I called up the first name in the list, Media Mart, and was told that they have it in stock for SGD229. My brother bought it for me in C4 Spore, so it seems that it is widely available in Spore. It's a good thing we have a good brother here k8118k ever helpful to us here.
chewkl, Where to get RMVB HD stuff?

Stupid question from a stupid man here, so I hope you don't mind indulging me please.
What are BD-ISO and BD-MV? What are the differences and what sizes do they come? I know that a typical BD title is anything between 35 and 50gb, so does it mean that these files will be of such sizes? Thanks.

No la, Coffee. My brother brought it back for me when he drove in from Spore on Saturday. I have not flown in and out of Spore for a very long time.
Now, a little FR on the unit over a few hours yesterday evening, displaying it on my Panny 50" plasma (50v80h). Very easy to set it up - HDMI into the TV no problem at all. Audio came out from 1 of the 2 coax outputs, leaving me with a spare coax and a optical toslink - no problem with my old Pioneer AV-Amp for DTS and AC-3 digital signals.
The picture, however needed a lot of adjustments. I don't have any tools, except by my 'butt-o-meter' based upon the earlier setting done by htkaki (using VDE) but nothing done on the colours. I am still not very happy with the colours and brightness/contrast so I shall need help, hoping that htkaki will be able to help out. The GUI is very easy to use, although I have yet to try out all the features. I am not sure how useful the wireless streaming will be, and I have yet to stick in a hard-disk. I have a bunch of FLAC files and plan to rip all my CDs into this format so this baby will become my main media player.

No problem with 1080p MKV files, Kelvin. Doesn't seem to have problem playing full HD files. And when BD ISO files are finally playable, it will be perfect.

moomoos, Sorry, no got Dvico to compare with. This my first HD media player, and so far I am very pleased with it.
After a few hours of fiddling with the settings on my ACR and my plasma, the picture looks very pleasing indeed. The colours are beautifully rendered based on my aging eyes. 1080p mkv's play smoothly with an occasional lag during fwd skips. I am now not sure if I want to play BD ISO files considering that my plasma is only HD Ready and that these files are humongus in size. For those without AV amps to decode DTS, the HDMI output will produce down-mixed audio to your TV. One thing I find lacking in this player (donno about other players) is that it does not allowing you to do any scaling. It is either set to 4:3 or 16:9, unlike the soft player like my favourit BS Player.

Just called these guys at Advance Tech. They say that they will be bringing their first batch of 10-20 units mid-Sep, selling at RM1199 but comes with a 1TB Samsung drive - not sold without the hard disk. I got mine from Spore through my brother for around RM570 without the hard disk. Planning to whack in a 1.5TB Samsung disk for around RM365 which is still cheaper by a few hundreds but with 50% more disk space.
Anyone interested to get it quick should give them a call. Otherwise, just wait until the inevitable and eventual lower prices.

chewkl or someone who can help,
i have just upgraded my ac ryan with the latest firmware (r1402) which is supposed to be able to handle subtitles changes - Add subtitles position (up, down) and font size (left-decrease, right-increase). But I don't seem to be able to do so from my remote control. Have you tried it? Can anyone share with me how to adjust the subtitle font size and position in the screen?
Thanks.

Bro Chew, The latest fw is absolutely working well on the subtitles, and we dont even need to have ext srt files for that! I think, after the fw upgrade, we need to reboot the player for it to take effect. Arrow Up/Dn keys to move the subtitles up/down, and left/right keys to increase or decrease the font size.
How much is this flighbox pro selling for? If it is the exact same box from china, but at usd100, then it is worth buying considering that it will play bd-iso.

QUOTE(bertz @ Sep 28 2009, 11:49 AM) can it play files with dts? as i'm just using it with the lcd only and does it comes with the hdmi cables? thanks. I am currently playing my hd movies directly from the hdmi cable into my plasma - no problem with the miserable stereo sound coming from the tv. Seems that that dts signals are down-mixed into the hdmi cable as well.

I have so far not found any problem with overheating with my ACRPOHD, and mine is installed with a 1.5TB Samsung hdd. For me, the only thing still missing is the ability to handle BD-ISO files.
Btw (OT, sorry), is it possible to convert BD-ISO files (already ripped from BDs into the hdd) to mkv files? I can't find it in makemkv.

Enough of OT liao, back to the POHD.
I just flashed my firmware with the latest ie r1757, my second upgrade since I got it. Seems to work fine without hitches. The extra menus on the subtitles and on the info button are all there now. It seems that the next fw release will allow for 'external USB optical drive support' and I am wondering if that includes the BDROM? Does anyone here know?

QUOTE(sskelviny @ Oct 21 2009, 10:01 AM) Guys, Any idea what is the max support for HDD for POHD? I surf into their website and they didnt mentioned about it. Furthermore i found that they have this HDD Docking station for 2.5" and 3.5" HDD....any idea whether is that available in Malaysia? For the internal unit, 2TB HDD should not pose any problem for the POHD. I am using the Samsung 1.5TB (best bang for the buck for the moment) - the HDD runs quiet and cool at 5400rpm, no problem playing movies at all. I am also looking at getting a HDU (docking unit) which can handle 3.5" or 2.5" SATA HDD, but really who cares about the 2.5"? I heard that, come the next PC Fair, the Samsung 2TB will be selling around the same price as what the 1.5TB unit is selling now. The HDU is a perfect solution for those of us who collect these massive HD movies. Cheapest I could find is RM109 by a seller in Lelong, the Xigmatek Secure. Added on October 21, 2009, 10:50 amazbro, You pressed the Add Reply button before I could. I didn't realise that this unit can be had for a low RM79. Thanks for the tip. ar188, POHD will automatically ask to format the internal HDD, otherwise it is unusable. So, it is no good if you are thinking of sticking a 'loaded' HDD into the player.
azbro, For these 'naked' HDDs, is it safe to store them in the plastic bags provided with the HDDs, shelved them somewhere?

I just found out from the supplier, yes the docker is able to format the blank naked hdd. For me, it's the way to go.
Does anyone here know about the next firmware release for the POHD? specifically for the capability to play BD-ISO?
