you think Real codec is that efficient meh? 
up against H264 which is probably as compact and efficient as it can be without losing real video quality... (as you mention, fast moving scene.. real cannot liao.. too much compression here..)

also the MKV is packing 5.1 channels while RMVB is only stereo for those gigabyte sizes.. those data have to be lost somewhere.. 

In Lowyat Dvico Tvix forum they said that 1073 is no match for audio output but lacking in video output if compare to old sigma chip, is it true, have someone already make the comparison.

Hope PQ of MKVs are close to expectations because so used to watching Blu-rays, might notice the differences.

but I have no issues with my realtek 1073 player via sata connection using NTFS 1.5TB HDD (but not partitioned or formatted by the realtek chip)..even with 43GB BD ISOs..

need to buffer or else dun play smoothly so don't think it's a good excuse for acryan if it jerks during playback..... of course unless the file is coded with a non standard parameter or weird codec..

I have a stupid question: Is it possible to convert a set of ripped BR files into to a single MKV file? What would be the software to use for this? I ask because i have a friend who has loads of natively ripped BR files in his terabytes and terabytes of hd's. Can anyone help?

no lah, paiseh paiseh, this guy is an old friend, not so into sharing with us 'cheap punks' here. however, once i find a way to convert, i dont mind sharing the mkv files around.

On this question what's the best way to manage so many HDDs? Do you buy racks and plug in all of them? Or just plug in some HDDs into a rack and the rest are just stored aside (to plug in only when needed)?

How to use SSD? Far too expensive... not to mention they only come in small capacities - so you need lots and lots of bays, SATA and power cables just to hook them up.

Well, I also got the ACRyan today. I must say it works pretty well as a video appliance it really has been playing everything I throw at it and the fact that it displays embedded fonts inside MKVs means it works very well for anime.
