Don't be surprised - Tamron and Sigma have improved pretty significantly. They specialise in lenses, after all.Photography The Sony Alpha Thread V29!, The Orange Legion

tanjq87: There are some Sigmas which are prone to gear stripping but the 17-70mm is not one of them.
The 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG and 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO 1:2 Macro are particularly prone. You can refer to Dyxum's lens reviews to see if a lens is prone or not. suchap69: It doesn't come with a battery. |

QUOTE(croomaniac @ Jul 27 2009, 03:59 PM) Actually, lenses from third-party manufacturers are quite often almost as good, if not as good, as those of the camera manufacturer (sometimes even better). It's just that little extra benefit in buying original - extensive manufacturer support, warranty, better build quality, etc. That's probably where the extra money goes to. |

QUOTE(Melv @ Jul 27 2009, 04:32 PM) Yup, it comes with the lens. But it's not that big of a deal - I lost mine soon after buying the camera. The hood does nothing to reduce lens flare, actually. And you can still use the lens perfectly normally without it. I think it should come already affixed to your lens. This post has been edited by jonjwlee: Jul 27 2009, 04:37 PM |

QUOTE(croomaniac @ Jul 27 2009, 03:50 PM) QUOTE(albnok @ Jul 27 2009, 03:54 PM) SpOOkY: Er, as I remember the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 EX DC for Sony does not have an AF/MF switch on the lens, as it does not have a lens motor. The Canon and Nikon versions with HSM, would have this AF/MF switch. hhaha yeah sorry it was a typo, i was surprised to see your reply too, I am eager to see how the Sigma 24-70mm HSM is in real life. I know (with picture proof) that the Zeiss 24-70mm SSM is leaps and bounds over the Sigma 24-70mm non-HSM! sigma 1770 doesnt have hahaha... hmm...i din not claim that it is better than zeiss, but according to alot of website, they say that 24-70 HSM is very good and some claimed that it is better than sony/canon. I think perhaps the price adi win hands down.....perhaps the rating is price/value over quality? not sure, but the price and size is tempting. IINM, it is using 82mm filter sigh..odd size.. |
