MechaHerc: All the Alpha mount digital SLRs (KM5D, KM7D, A100-A700) are APS-C except the A850 and A900.

All the Alpha mount film SLRs (Minolta Dynax/Maxxum/Alpha*) are full-frame. I've corrected Templar on this.

However, there were also half-frame film SLRs like the Olympus Pen F, and there was a film format with a smaller size called APS (Advanced Photo System). However that was expensive and didn't sell well.

*a Minolta 7 sold in the USA would be called a Minolta Maxxum 7, in Japan it's called the Minolta Alpha 7, and elsewhere, it's called the Minolta Dynax 7.

SpOOkY: Yes that is the link for the film 7.

Ksano: Yes, I strongly suggest you get the screen protector.

so how much is it?
looking at shahinki only got 3rd party one,

if not

20mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm, 200mm.... brows.gif  brows.gif  brows.gif  brows.gif  brows.gif

well, can't say that you are totally wrong but,

most newbie fotog will find that prime lens are lousy because of must zoom kaki tongue.gif (I say this because even when I bought baby beercan, the limitation already make me headache + minimum focus distant that is too far)

but I know that most prime lens MFD kinda good (can go close up)
And sometimes It teach you how to creatively compose your shot with its limitation

but if prime 20mm tongue.gif even I wanna get it hehehe
but if the price no different then UWA... why not get better range ?

as for sharpness issue... for sure I envy those zeiss user laugh.gif
haih bila la mau tukar ini kitty jadi 16-80 tongue.gif

i tot primes MFD are not that good? nvrm, i may be wrong

there is a saying- once u touch/in-love with primes, U're gone..no cure..
*
not really

i reffer to dyxum... most prime lens MFD about 300mm or lesser
while mini beercan 1000m !! ROFL

opss

minolta/sal 50mm about 400-500...
but still better than mini ahahaha tongue.gif
the wider the primes i think the shorter the MFD (nuub assumption)

yet... for user like me who like to take extraaa wide and also tele zoom2...
guess I prefer zoom lens tongue.gif

prime lense probably I use when I feel like wanna give a challenge for my self tongue.gif

huh?mini beercan 1m? u sure kar? that is seriously very FAR...
my 55-250 minimum is 1m i adi complain and most 70200 is also ~1m...

50mm are ~0.45m but the new SAL50 1.8 is better smile.gif
*
yep... unless use macro mode... (gosh now I really dont like the macro button at all minolta lens tongue.gif lucky beercan didnt have that)

but as for telefoto lens... for sure the mfd is longer ... since it can MFD closer for sure it can be good macro lens tongue.gif

QUOTE(kitman @ Aug 10 2009, 04:17 PM)
very true, some people can go walk around all day with just a 50mm prime, some will need an army of lens. but it is very useful to get feed back from users so can make informed choices.

edit : don't just take it face value that the zeiss or g are automatically good. look at the pix produced and see if you can tell the differences and if those differences are worth paying the premium for. i am not dissing any of the lenses - i am actually deeply poisoned by most of the zeiss/g
*
yeap you are right,
in the end, skill, timing and luck is still the main factor in photog tongue.gif
gears just helping in improving it tongue.gif
like great scenery can be shot even by kitty,
but premium lens can help it improve in term of sharpness, shutter speed , distortion etc etc smile.gif

and most important.... focusing speed tongue.gif
just realized that beercan can focus faster at a700 ...
now I cry.gif every time returning beercan to my friend LOL

QUOTE(shootkk @ Aug 10 2009, 04:48 PM)
albnok : Someone who understands...finally... hahaha... If you guys think about it, zoom lenses are quite new to the game of photography. Film shooters of old had only prime lenses once upon a time and if you can't use those focal ranges, how in the world did they shoot back then??

That's why some 'pros' discourage too much use of zoom lenses. It gives you some kind of skewed mentality that the zoom is the be all end all solutions.

To be honest if one have a prime line up like:

1. 20mm
2. 35mm
3. 50mm
4. 85mm
5. 135mm

One would find that one seldom needs other focal ranges. Especially on a FF. Unless one is into birding or macro where long telephoto or macro lenses would come into play.
*
for sure need at least two body I think tongue.gif
Guess even if it is me, i`ll just use 20,50,135 tongue.gif
wide for group photo and tele for candid hurmm..

I Love to take scenery (wide)
oso candid and something that I really cant reach (tele)

burn2 poket burn... now can only dream about lens rclxm9.gif

both lens good for portrait but 50mm better bokeh I think,

but If you really can live with a prime lens then go ahead tongue.gif

for me I`ll chose 17-50 2.8 brows.gif
