It's just another computer really. The real question I guess is if the subject you study requires some software that isn't available in Mac? If it doesn't have a Mac version to what you need you can still use it through a VM or Boot Camp but not everyone likes that.

If you own a Mac to begin with, a RM109 OS upgrade is really no big deal.
