how bad is the scratch? which part got scratched? can you bear with it?
I haven't checked out a MacPro really closely yet, but I believe they are anodized aluminium. NOT painted. So you can't paint it to conceal a scratch. |

I recently ordered a 17" MacBook Pro matte display from Hong Kong and had a friend pick it up for me. Unfortunately, the unit died on me the next day. Ran all the usual diagnostics I can think of but finally sent it to VR Tech. They knew the unit was bought in HK when they checked the serial number against their database. So I presumed I was going to be charged for labour.
In the meantime, the shop in HK asked me to bring the unit back and they can give me a replacement unit. But I had to wait for a week since the matte display needs to be specially ordered. That didn't work for me. Anyway VR Tech called later to inform me that the issue was with the logic board and it needed to be replaced but they have to order from S'pore. Was surprised that the part only took a day to arrive. I collected the unit 3 days later and no charges from VR Tech. I guess Apple picked up the tab. Thank god for Apple's Int'l warranty! So why did I risk getting it from HK. Because the price difference is about RM870 and its the cheapest place in the world to buy a Mac. If you can get a friend to bring it down for you, then by all means go for it! |

anyone knows how to clean dirt under keyboards and trackpad. I spilled champagne on my keyboard 3 weeks ago and some keys and the trackpad became really uncomfortable to type. It feels like something is stuck under the keys. I suspect it's the crystalized sugar. Has anything like that happened to anyone? i plan to try my luck at apple and pretend i don't know anything.

Thanks for bringing up the immersion sensor. Having my first apple product, I'm not aware they had that. Some research showed that they had put several in the macbook, notably under a few of the keys in the keyboard.
http://www.hardmac.com/news/2009/07/16/mor...ensors-of-apple The thing that freaks me in out apple's policy is this: QUOTE The indicators will not be triggered by temperature and humidity that is within the product's environmental requirements described by Apple. A triggered indicator will turn red or pink, We live in Malaysia. And typically our humidity level is at least 70% R.H. EDIT: to as much as 100% in prolonged heavy rain. Apple's operating specs say up to 90% non-condensing. High humidity alone will turn the indicators pink in due time as shown in the above article. Plus, every week I shut down my MBP and clean it with a damp cloth. Thats more humidity for you. Condensation? Another whole new topic. Wearers of glasses will know. I don't know how tolerant is Apple towards triggered immersion sensors in humid Malaysia, but having read how in a worse-case-scenario someone had their warranty void just because ONE sensor was triggered when it in fact has not been in contact with water. The above reasons plus the fact that spilling anything on your keyboard, however minor it may be, may have serious consequences; makes me consider getting a keyboard protector. Any input on the above? This post has been edited by MetalZone: Aug 10 2009, 04:21 PM |

Some research showed that they had put several in the macbook, notably under a few of the keys in the keyboard. actually apple wouldnt nullify your warranty if the immersion sensors were indeed triggered by humidity alone, they would probably look behind your keys or the logic board for any sign of liquid spill, for me though the likelihood of anything spilling on my keyboard is far lesser than dropping the laptop on the floor. I'd not recommend a keyboard protector as it covers the heat vents underneath the keyboard, which is a wide area to disperse heat.http://www.hardmac.com/news/2009/07/16/mor...ensors-of-apple The thing that freaks me in out apple's policy is this: We live in Malaysia. Well I seriously hope so. iphone users have not been very lucky so far with many users worldwide having their warranty voided because their immersion sensors were triggered without actually being immersed.I avoided keyboard protectors so far for the same reason you mentioned. |
