3.6k for 2nd hand seems reasonable

obviously it's best if u can have a look at the product before buying. juz make sure the body no scratches n dents (if there is, maybe can try asking for lower price, but up to u). since it's the 2008 model, i think it comes with LED backlit screen so i think the screen wont be bad, but juz check for scratches too. make sure all buttons n ports are working.

also check the battery, how long can it last. for that model, if bought in 2008, i think the battery should be able to power the mac for around 3 hours (juz my guess) with wifi n BT off, lowest screen brightness

i believe it only applies to macbook

well that's why acer n asus cannot fight apple..haha. plus magsafe is too easy to get disconnected anyway...if i take out my battery, very likely i accidentally shut off my mac tongue.gif

dear all apple users.. is macs cost less to manage than pc?  unsure.gif

there is a debate between mac and pc going on here
*
debates between mac n pc are EVERYWHERE tongue.gif but if u're strictly talking about management costs then mac wins IMO. no need to pay for antivirus, malware protection, etc. from my experience, easier to diagnose/repair too

i got a question,
why i can't delete file on trash? i dunno where the files is coming from. its suddenly on trash. with weird name
*
what's the name, and what error came out?

QUOTE(stevielo @ Mar 17 2010, 04:23 PM)
just realized the new MBP is coming. Very regretful for not doing enough research before buying.

I just asked the staff at Switch (apple reseller in Penang) and they don't have any idea about the MBP refresh either. sad.gif
*
no one knows anything about MBP refresh... but as with every electronics, it's gonna get an update sooner or later. the staff cannot simply say "new MBP coming next month" because if it doesnt, the customer will feel cheated.

Initial impression: I have to get used to different style of OS. I'm so used to referring to the Windows 7 taskbar that it is hard to kick the habit. I'm liking the multitouch gestures, easy application install and the speed and coverage of WiFi 802.11n.

explore in applications/utilities folder, n install the Developer Tools,... so many useful, great apps came together with a Mac biggrin.gif no need Ultimate version hehe

any type of HDD is okay. her problem is the HDD format

most HDD sold in stores are formatted in FAT32, which has a limitation of 4GB per file. This is not unique with OSX, any OS cannot write more than 4GB on a FAT32 formatted disk

what you might want to do, regardless if u're using OSX or not, is to format the HDD before you copy anything onto it. If u're using windows, format to NTFS. If u're using a Mac, ideally use HFS+

the catch is, Windows can't read HFS+ (I'm not sure if there are workarounds, but then this is a pretty secure thing right?). And also, OSX can't write to NTFS, u'll require third party apps to do that.

probably the best way is to format to NTFS, and install apps like NTFS-3G so ur Mac can write to it.

my ext HDDs are just FAT32 since i dun have any files bigger than 4GB i wanna keep on it tongue.gif

EDIT: sorry for the redundancy, was still typing when mengsuan posted tongue.gif

Guys, may I ask what is the best software for Mac OS to do a system clearance so that the system is not too laggy after some time of usage? Thanks.
*
is ur system lagging now? if not, then dun worry hehhe

well when uninstalling an app, use something like CleanApp, so that all files related to the app will be removed as well

other than that, i dun use anything else, n my system is running fine. juz keep ur files organized that's all

QUOTE(jacklsw86 @ Mar 28 2010, 04:52 PM)
how come the cheapest macbook pro is so much pricier than the macbook? i don't see much differences between those specs.
*
Macs arent all about specs. i've just answered this question lately, so let me juz copy n paste~

QUOTE
- MBP 13 aluminium body looks better, wont get dirty easily
- black keyboard also wont get dirty easily, plus backlighting is quite useful
- SD card slot. of course u can juz get card reader. useless if u dont use SD cards for ur digital camera
- firewire 800 port, some people need this. i dont, but i really like it biggrin.gif
- IR port for remote. not really useful IMHO

but then, if u buy macbook, RM900 difference can buy...

- applecare protection plan, OR
- upgrade to 4GB RAM + 500GB HDD + Magic Mouse
- upgrade to 4GB RAM + moshi palmguard + clearguard + zagg invisible shield + good laptop bag
- 24" external display
- very good 2.1 speakers / headphones

if by "specs" u mean CPU, RAM n HDD, then MBP loses cuz the HDD is a little smaller. but if build quality n ports are also considered "specs", then it wins, hence the higher price

thus it's pretty much how would you like to spend RM900 smile.gif
