Hi all, I'm planning to buy a new TV set for my parents. Budget would be around RM2500-3000. I'm looking for min 37" & if possible 40".

What brand/models are recommended? Thinking of more well known brands such as Panasonic, Sony or Sharp. This new TV will be heavily used - daily operating hours would be around 12-14 hours & will be used 90% to watch Astro.

Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks.

I heard about the new Panasonic Plasma 42" too.

My questions as below.

1) Can Plasma withstand with daily watching of up to 15 hrs?
2) Is it ok for Astro viewing?
3) Some said plasma tv will have reflection due to glass surface. Is it really that noticeable?
4) The lowest price I get for this model is about RM3300 from Harvey Norman. Any other lower price that you know of?

Any other recommendations? Thanks all.

If your living room got air-con, then the plasma definitely can withstand long hours of playing......even the price of the P42S10 is getting cheaper and cheaper now, if you are in no hurry, maybe can waiting for the price drop for the P50S10 brows.gif bigger screen for your parents thumbup.gif

if plasma, make sure the viewer aware is of the image retention. reflection screen is depending on the placement of the tv. if you plan to watch astro only, no need to invest to fullhd. only invest to full hd if you plan to use bluray. panasonic plasma is better to watch astro imho compare to lcd. remember, plasma flicker. so dont watch it at near distance.

i just bot a 42x10 @ 2850..1 week ago...

watch TV 15 hours a day? - Good, you burn in the unit much faster than us rclxms.gif My unit is getting better and better the more i use it...

ASTRO? - thru S-video, Plasma pijak LCD anytime...

Image retention? - new generation plasma still got this issue? doh.gif

Heat issue? - as long you are not atching it under the sun, room temperature will be just fine...

Flicker? - you dun notice it at all for movie, astro etc..as for connecting it too PC, it depends on your graphic card...

reflection? - 42x10 reflects more than 42S10, but color is more vibrant. reflection no issue unless you cannot afford a curtain.

FullHD, HDready? - it depends how far you sit from the TV.

Thanks a lot for the reply. May I know where you bought the X10? The price offered is very good indeed. Talking about reflection, it won't be anything come close to the old CRT TV rite?

I'm now considering this model & another Panasonic model L37X15K (37" LCD) - still very much undecided but plan to get either one by end Aug the latest. Any comments on the latter too ?

Hi All, I've pretty much decided on Panasonic model L37X15K (37" LCD). The price displayed in HN, Courts, Best, etc is around RM31xx before discount. Will wait for the price to drop slightly & get it before end of this month perhaps. smile.gif
